Up for sale is my 1996 BMW 328is. It obviously is an older BMW with some mileage, however does run and drive well. It just had some major work done at 200,000 miles including a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, slave cylinder, front wheel bearing hub on the passenger side, rear driver wheel bearing and complete front and rear brake pads. The car also had a new center support bearing installed on the drive shaft when the clutch was installed. There is minor rust starting on the passenger side lower door. Interior is decent, but has normal rips and tears in the driver seat. It has seat covers on the seats now. The head liner is coming loose by the sunroof, would be and easy fix with contact spray. It has a custom muffler on in which is a little louder than stock, but I do have the original muffler for the car as well. The car starts right up and runs excellent and drives like it should. The car is not perfect, but the price reflects that. I also have an aftermarket computer installed in the car which eliminates the common BMW EWS security issues. It is a reprogrammed factory unit with a warranty. The computer also improves fuel economy and horsepower. The factory spoiler has always been missing since I have owned the car. It is also missing the passenger side fog light. The tires were just replaced. This is a great buy for someone looking so get an awesome head turner and BMW at a great price. BMW slapped with discrimination suit by EEOC
Thu, 13 Jun 2013According to a report from CNNMoney, BMW has been hit with a lawsuit from the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission after revised criminal background check policies resulted in the dismissal of 88 contractors, 70 of whom (that's about 80 percent) were black. A total of 645 contractors were required to submit to background checks at BMW's facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina after BMW switched contract companies at its plant.
Though the 88 persons who were not rehired by the new contractor all had criminal records, that may not necessarily be a legal way to screen applicants, as the EEOC counters: "BMW's policy has no time limit with regard to convictions. The policy is a blanket exclusion without any individualized assessment of the nature and gravity of the crimes, the ages of the convictions, or the nature of the claimants' respective positions."
BMW's actions were in violation of the Civic Rights Act of 1964, according to the EEOC, because they utilized "a criminal conviction policy that disproportionately screened out African-Americans." A recent bulletin offering guidance from the EEOC on the Civil Rights Act can be found here, but the EEOC's stance on the issue has been the same for years: "Since issuing its first written policy guidance in the 1980s regarding the use of arrest and conviction records in employment decisions, the EEOC has advised employers that under certain circumstances, their use of that information to deny employment opportunities could be at odds with Title VII."
BMW M2, we're happy to see you
Wed, 03 Sep 2014I recently spent some time behind the wheel of the BMW M235i and, well, I didn't love it. Sure, it's a great car, but I just didn't truly bond with it the way I have with previous M cars. What I had hoped for was a proper successor to the 1 Series M Coupe I fell in love with in 2011, but what I got instead was just a sporty 2 Series that didn't exactly stir my emotions in the same way.
But now there's this: the honest-to-goodness BMW M2. Previously, spy photographers captured a development-mule M2, but this is the real thing, in its full prototype body. Notice the aggressive front fascia that mimics the M3/M4, the more more robust wheel/tire package, and the M-standard quad exhaust outlets around back. This thing sure does look the business.
Details are slim as of this writing, but rumors suggest power will come from BMW's now-ubiquitous N55 turbocharged 3.0-liter six, with output somewhere in the 360- to 380-horspower range. The seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission seems like a good fit here, too. As does a six-speed manual transmission (here's hoping).
