PRICING:

What comes first? The price or the car?

I am a seven-time BMW owner. I love the cars mostly for their performance and safety.

When I buy a BMW, my foremost concerns are a large enough engine. That often is the safest way to accelerate out of a potential accident. I also purchase manual gearboxes where I shift and totally control the driving experience instead of simply holding the steering wheel and allowing an automatic transmission to take over (that's fine on a Hertz rental).

The best possible tires and brakes prevail as the most important decision of any. Tires are the connection between you and the fast and harsh pavement underneath you.

Features and packages are important visually and for comfort. There is nothing that feels as welcomed as heated seats on a cool January day. All of my BMW's have had XENON HEADLIGHTS ($1250 option) along with the Sport Package, the Winter/Weather package and the Premium package or close-like premium package features. I've never had navigation because on a convertible it is simply too easy to steal (my portable Garmin gets locked up).

This is the least expensive BMW currently out there now. Factoring in new Michelin's, the mileage, the CarFax report, zero dents or issues, packages, Xenon's and that very rare and exciting 6-speed transmission. Plus, take into account Consumer Reports April 2013 auto edition that suggests a fuel rebuild be accomplished for $4500. This BMW has that done for you and recently documented by BMW this 2013.

So take a look at every other local BMW and then come back to the ideal BMW 335i convertible.

Alpina bringing new B4 Bi-Turbo Cabrio to Geneva

Mon, 24 Feb 2014

Interested in picking up a new BMW 4 Series with a turbo six? You've got options: you can get the 435i with 300 horsepower or spring for the M4 with 425 hp. But if it's the convertible model you want, we're afraid you'll be limited to the latter as the M division can't help you (at least not for the time being). But that's where Alpina comes in.
The aftermarket tuner closely associated with BMW offers the B4 Bi-Turbo (at least in Europe) with that same 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six massaged up to 410 horsepower that starts to pose a threat to the M4. What's more is that the Alpina's 442 pound-feet of torque eclipses the M4's 406 lb-ft, to say nothing of the 435i's 300.
Best of all, Alpina just confirmed via Facebook that it'll offer the B4 in convertible form, bringing the resulting BMW Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo Cabrio to the Geneva Motor Show. We'd expect the weight penalty to knock it slightly off the coupe's quoted 4.1-second 0-60 time, but not by much. If only BMW were to bring this one Stateside like it does with the B7 sedan.

BMW i8 official images leak ahead of Frankfurt [w/video]

Tue, 03 Sep 2013

The new BMW i8 plug-in electric supercar isn't set to make its official debut until September 10, when it will glide onto the Frankfurt Motor Show stage amidst a sea of flash photography. Of course, that isn't so true in today's world, where debuts are always preceded (often carefully) by "leaks."
Take this trio of images of the BMW i8 - there's just enough of the exterior on display in the profile shot to draw attention, without showing important styling points that might be present on the front or back of the car. The same goes for the video attached below. The cabin shot is cool, but isn't particularly earth-shattering when it comes to BMW interiors. As for the skeletal shot, we can see the 1.5-liter, turbocharged engine positioned between the rear axles, the battery pack found in what would be the transmission tunnel and the front-mounted electric motors.
We'll have a full set of live images when the BMW i8 makes its debut in Frankfurt next week. Until then, have a look in the gallery and at the video below, and let us know what you think of BMW's next big thing.

Audi S3 pitted against BMW M135i in track battle

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

Audi and BMW have long been enemies on both the road and the track, with their respective M and S/RS lines duking it out to the delight of auto enthusiasts everywhere. In this video from Evo, two of the rivalry's newest combatants take to the track - the Audi S3 and the BMW M135i.
The new Audi S3, which is finally coming to America, throws down with a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder. 290 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque are deployed to a Quattro all-wheel-drive system via a six-speed, S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission, allowing the five-door Audi to scamper to 60 in under five seconds.
The BMW, which Americans will know as a long-roof version of the new M235i Coupe, comes to the track with 320 ponies and 331 lb-ft of torque. That's a good bit more than the Audi, but the M135i has only two wheels to send its power to, an eight-speed single-clutch automatic (a six-speed manual is available) and a slightly higher curb weight.
