After a lot of time and fun on this car, it is finally time to move on. This car has quite a story, and a lot of pictures of the build to go along with it if you are interested. I originally picked this car up two years ago from another loving owner as a 530i M sport 5 speed with a broken windshield and no stereo completely bone stock for $4100. It has a list of receipts from past owners along with all of the book stuff from BMW when it was originally purchased. I had the windshield replaced and installed a very nice pioneer deck immediately, and also had plans to buy a 4.0L V8 to swap into it. After about 6 months I found an engine for sale pulled from a 1995 740i (preferable since the 7 series only came in automatic so the engine couldn't have been ripped on too hard) The engine had 130,000 miles on it, but was professionally rebuilt by BMW at 100,000 miles due to the nikasil block problems these engines had. So the engine really only has about 30,000 miles on it. I purchased it for $900 and also purchased new gaskets to redo the engine. I replaced everything besides the head gaskets which are in great condition. After re-gasketing the engine, I picked up a brand new stage 1 clutch and Flywheel for $1300. I also bought a 6-speed transmission pulled from a totaled Z8 for $1000 and I dropped it off at eastside transmission to have it looked through(they found it to be in perfect order) then they re-gasketed it and filled it up with new oil. I then ordered a brand new E34 M5 drive shaft(for power handling) and had the back end shortened with a new yolk to fit my differential all done by drivelines northwest in Seattle. The differential and subframe are from a late model 535i auto. The differential also had the yolk changed to fit and disassembled, checked, re-gasketed, and filled with redline racing fluid by Northwest differential in kirkland. It is a 3.91 LSD. Sub frame received some love as I replaced the bushings and repainted everything for rust prevention. The exhaust is custom made by Tim at muffler king in kirkland and it sounds fantastic! The computer was tuned by a guy in Renton who makes performance chips for these car. It dynoed at 320 crank HP and 330 tq. fuel economy is sacrificed a bit for these specs but who cares, its a V8 already. The suspension was custom made by BC racing and is 32 way adjustable dampening, ride height and spring pre-load adjustable with 6k springs up front and 8k in the rear. The front struts are weld in only, so I had it done by a FIA certified welder at 425 Motorsports in bellevue for $600. At the same time that they did this, they also built custom one off racing seat brackets which came out to $700 because they are very different than normal seat brackets, and I can explain better with pictures. The car comes with both original seats, one recaro SRD in perfect condition, and both racing seat brackets. It also will have the very rare AC Schnitzer style 3 two piece wheels pictured mounted up along with brand new Michelin pilot sport 3 tires 235/40/18. The car also has an all new coolant system including water pump, radiator, fan, fan shroud, and hoses.

Performance mods:
-Headers
-Custom Exhaust
-Cold Air Intake
-Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines
-Hawk Organic Pads
-Custom BC Racing Coilovers
-NGK-R Spark Plugs
-Short Shifter
-Custom Tuned ECU
-LSD
-320hp 330tq
-Other stuff that I cant remember

Maintenance:
-Water Pump
-Radiator
-Fan
-Fan Shroud
-Coolant Hoses
-Engine Mounts
-Spark Plugs NGK-R
-Fully re-gasketed
-New Bushings
-New Suspention
-Trans Oil
-Diff oil
-Engine oil always changed with Mobil-1 Full Synthetic
-Brake Lines
-Brake Fluid
-Coolant
-Air Filter
-Other stuff that I cant remember

The car is a load of fun to drive, it does 0-60 in 4.7 second and loves to slide around corners. The paint could be in better condition, but it is 18 years old, and looks pretty good for that age. It is very solid and I will miss it forever, but I am ready for another project now. Thank you:)

BMW X4 Concept images leak ahead of Shanghai debut

Thu, 04 Apr 2013

Last month, BMW confirmed that its long-awaited X4 crossover would debut next year, but other than imagining a smaller X6-shaped crossover, we really had no idea what the new niche model would look like. That is until a Russian website, Autowp, leaked a handful of embargoed images this morning showing the X4 Concept that will be unveiled in a couple of weeks at the Shanghai Motor Show.
From what we can see of this concept's styling, there are more elements shared with current BMW models than not. The face of the concept is an attractive blend of the current 3 Series sedan and the X3, while the roofline has definitely plucked right from the X6. This thinly veiled concept should carry over almost untouched when it enters production with the exception of the door handles and the overly stylized fascias and side mirrors. According to CarScoops, it will measure the same length as the current X3 and use the same engine lineup as well. Stay tuned, as we'll have more information on this concept shortly.

Giles Taylor succeeds Ian Cameron as head of Rolls-Royce design

Thu, 28 Jun 2012

Back in the day, a Rolls-Royce looked pretty much the same as a Bentley, but with a different grille. Once BMW took over Rolls-Royce, however, it was faced with the challenge of visually separating itself from its former sister brand. And most would agree that it did so pretty well. But its cars have looked pretty much the same ever since. What Rolls-Royce needs, then, is a bit of a design shake-up. And that's just what this latest appointment could bring.
After a baker's dozen years as design director at Rolls-Royce (and twenty years designing for the BMW Group altogether), Ian Cameron is retiring from his post. In his place, Rolls-Royce has named Giles Taylor as its new director of design. In his new capacity, Taylor will report directly to BMW Group chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk, and be responsible for all design matters related to the Rolls-Royce brand and its products.
Taylor was promoted to the role from his previous position as head of exterior design for the marque, a position he's held for barely more than a year. We'll be eagerly watching to see what the veteran British car designer has in store for the future of Rolls-Royce. In the meantime you can read the full announcement below.

BMW readying Spartanburg expansion for X7 production

Mon, 24 Mar 2014

Prior to the debut of the original X5 in 1999, the idea of a BMW crossover might have seemed like heresy. But here we are, fifteen years removed from the Frank Stephenson-penned design, and the Bavarian automaker has expanded its crossover lineup to include the X1, X3, X4 and X6, and it's showing no sign of slowing down.
We recently reported that BMW is planning on slotting an X2 in at the bottom of the range between the X1 and X3, but now it's being widely reported that it's got an even larger one to put in at the top of its utility line. That, of course, would be the X7, a long-rumored three-row model that would give BMW a large family hauler to challenge the Mercedes-Benz GL.
According to The Wall Street Journal, BMW is expanding its assembly plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to accommodate production of the X7 alongside the X3, X4 and X5 that it already builds there for local consumption.
