2005 BMW 645CI CONVERTIBLE:

I am moving overseas and regretfully can not take my BMW 6-series convertible. I am with the car in Elko, NV, title in hand, and am available to show her.  She has 77,000 miles, is in mint condition, garage kept, no accidents, no mechanical or electrical problems. This car is in fully sound condition. There are too many features to list them all so I will give a brief overview of items that have been described to me by BMW that I like the best:

*360 degree sensor in steering wheel which dictates separate magnitudes of braking power to each wheel depending on speed and the position of the steering wheel. This is an incredible safety and performance feature.

*Power steering adjusts with speed to allow precise maneuverability in turns while breaking/accelerating.

*CO, NOX, SOX, sensor to allow only fresh air in the vehicle otherwise vents close to exterior until fresh air is detected by the car.

*Xenon headlights which turn as you turn the steering wheel. (helpful on dark curvy roads)

*Able to drive as an Automatic Transmission OR Manual.

*Heated seats/heated steering wheel.

*Car has surrounding sensors indicating if an object is getting too close. It also shows in the display while parking so you can see where objects all around the vehicle are.

*10-way power seats.

*7-CD changer, GPS Navigation, Hands-Free Calling, Altimeter and BMW Assist global positioning.

*Run flat tires (the car will tell you which tire has a puncture or is getting low and you can drive for 60 miles at 55mph with a flat).

*Auto-dimming mirrors.

*V8 engine, 27mpg highway, 20mpg in town.

*Seats 4.

*Equipped to hold ski's.

I have never had a problem with this car, she is an impressive machine and I am sad to let her go. Please call me if you are serious about her. Unfortunately a lot of fraudulent communication comes to me regarding purchase so I would prefer to discuss her initially on the phone. Buyer is responsible for shipping. Full payment in the form of cashiers check, money order or cash in person is due within 7-days of the auction close. She is for sale locally and as a result the auction may end early. Asking $24,000. Thank You, James 775-388-1768

Watch the trailer for Locke, a movie that takes place entirely in BMW's X5

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

It's no surprise that driving can be incredibly stressful. You're basically trapped in a metal box, and until fairly recently, your ability to communicate with the outside world beyond the toot of a horn or a rolled-down window was all but nonexistent. Locke, a new film starring actor Tom Hardy (best known for his role as Bane in the Batman movie Dark Knight Rises), capitalizes on that feeling of isolation and stress by setting the entire movie in a BMW X5.
Locke is written and directed by Steven Knight, author of Eastern Promises, and the trailer shows Hardy's character being put under increasingly intense emotional stress as he drives along in his Bimmer. We don't know much more than that, as the 90-second trailer really doesn't give away much.
The film premiered at last year's Venice Film Festival, and reviews are available that tell more about the story, but we don't believe in spoilers. It's poised to hit theaters in the UK on April 18 and the US on April 25. The trailer reminds us of a far more artistic take on Steven Spielberg's 1971 movie, Duel and has our interest piqued. Scroll down to watch the trailer, but consider yourself warned, there's a brief moment of profanity.

Is Audi getting complacent and suffering from brain drain?

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

The argument is made in a Reuters article: Audi is falling behind other luxury brands, such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, due to a lack of research-and-development spending and "brain drain," or the migration of top executives and R&D chiefs to other parts of the Volkswagen Group. Reuters notes that Audi's current R&D chief is the third in 16 months.
Audi, which contributed to 40 percent of VW Group's $11.6 billion in profit the first nine months of the year, is delivering cars at a record pace: 1.31 million were delivered from January to October 2013 versus BMW's 1.35 million. Yet Audi, Reuters reports, doesn't have a halo car akin to BMW's new electrified i3 and i8 or an answer to Mercedes' plug-in-hybrid S-Class, and the R&D spending at Audi is less than BMW and Mercedes by a fair margin. It's noted in the article, however, that Audi benefits from other R&D spending within VW Group.
Reuters mentions that BMW "trumpets its new 'i' series" and the new Mercedes CLA and GLA ranges are winning "rave reviews" as part of its argument that Audi's recent lack of technological innovation could hurt future sales. Those cars do pack tons of new technology, some of which are firsts for mainstream production cars. But last time we checked, the i3 could be causing BMW's stock to slide, the CLA isn't receiving the rave reviews that Reuters would have you believe and the GLA hasn't been reviewed yet.

BMW unleashes 160-hp S 1000 R streetfighter motorcycle

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

BMW Motorrad released the S 1000 RR superbike in 2010, but for those who'd like to take it down a (small) notch, the German motorcycle maker introduced the 2014 S 1000 R, a slightly less-ballsy version of the range-topping superbike, at EICMA on Tuesday.
In its transformation from 193-horsepower superbike to 160-hp sportbike, BMW detuned the 999cc inline four-cylinder engine a bit by lowering the redline from 13,000 RPM to 11,000 RPM, where peak power is made. Torque is rated at "approximately" 83 pound-feet (the RR makes 82.5 lb-ft), but more importantly, engineers tweaked the torque delivery in the R's favor by redesigning the cylinder-head ducts, modifying the camshaft profiles and reprogramming the engine management system. The result is seven lb-ft more torque than the RR up to 7,500 RPM. The R's torque peak occurs at 9,250 RPM.
The bike comes standard with ASC (automatic stability control) and "Race" ABS. Riders can choose between two modes, "Road" and "Rain," which adjust ABS and ASC settings to suit dry or wet roads. DTC (dynamic traction control) is available as an option, and with two modes, "Dynamic" and "Dynamic Pro," the system optimizes traction and helps riders achieve maximum acceleration.
