I am the second owner of this vehicle. I purchased it in 2007 in Greenwich, CT and have lived in CT and MA with it before moving to FL. I'm recently married and between my husband and I, we now have 3 cars and simply need to make more room in our garage! The vehicle has had all regular maintenance done and not knowing that I would be selling it so soon (my husbands company purchased him a truck in February), I have put some work into the vehicle, especially in the past year. In September, I had 2 new Pirelli PZero Nero All Season tires put on the vehicle (so those have about 30,394 miles on them). A new starter was also installed in September. We had a full tuneup conducted (new hoses, etc.) in December. A new battery was installed last week (the car had its original battery, which was no longer holding a charge).

This car has all the extras - heated seats, BMW sport package, panoramic sunroof, cruise-control, steering wheel controls, power windows/locks.

We are selling this vehicle AS IS. There is slight corrosion in the trunk (back right corner) inside of a cubby hole (see photo). There is also a slight dent in the back, which is to the left of the license plate (above the bumper). This happened in a shopping mall parking lot in December (person who hit us did not leave any information and we just haven't gotten around to getting dent taken out). See photos for close-up of dent. Vehicle has over 130k miles on it, and the drive shaft does feel as though it might need replacement. I still drive the vehicle on weekends to keep it in good working order and can feel it shake at high speeds - car experts may know better than I what the cause of that is.

Overall, this has been a great vehicle for me and I am sad to let it go. At this point in our lives though, having a truck with towing capabilities and room for our giant Labrador is just more practical. We hope it goes to a good home!

BMW V8-powered Ford Model A is the definition of Hot Rod

Thu, 20 Jun 2013

Today, hotrodding has a pretty staid definition. Take one classic American car, add one classic American V8, sprinkle with tire smoke and you pretty much have every hot rod to roll out of a shop in the last 40 years. Mike Borroughs knows it wasn't always this way. Once upon a time, getting your bucket to go faster meant grabbing whatever parts were lazing about the yard, bolting them together with a bit of ingenuity and laughing your way down the quarter mile. It's in that spirit that Burroughs built his 1928 Ford Model A.
Rather than turn to the tired flathead or the common Chevrolet small block, Burroughs plucked a 4.0-liter V8 from a 1995 BMW 7 Series. With 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, the engine has no trouble shuffling the old A around town. He had to build a custom chassis to get everything to cooperate, but the result is a 1,500-pound heathen that looks built to harass dry lake beds. You can check it out in the video below. Be warned, the soundtrack by Hanni el Khatib may not be safe for work - awesomeness of this caliber rarely is.

BMW i creates high-design solar charging carport

Fri, 09 May 2014

With the first deliveries of the i3 under way, and the recent i8 press launch, the marketing push in the US for the BMW electric sub-brand has begun. These i vehicles are supposed to have a completely different feel from the rest of the brand's lineup. To complement their earth-friendly ethos, the Bavarian company commissioned BMW Group DesignworksUSA in California to create a solar carport concept that could keep the models sustainably topped up on power. It premiered alongside the i8 in Los Angeles at the electric sports coupe's media launch.
At first glance, the BMW i Solar Carport Concept looks like a pergola from a winery or a well-groomed garden, but like the i vehicles, the deeper you look, the more high-tech features there are. The sides feature carbon elements in a similar way that the i3 and i8 have a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic body. Bamboo forms the uprights because its quick-growing nature makes it rather sustainable, and the solar panels are strung along the top to harness energy.
Obviously the sun can't provide all of the energy that the electric cars need, and a BMW Wallbox Pro charger is also connected to the power grid as a supplement. It includes a readout telling users the amount of solar energy versus municipal electricity it's using.

BMW reacquires original factory as classic center

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

BMW was barely two years old when it started manufacturing airplane engines in a factory on Moosacher Strasse in Munich. Two years after that, it sold the factory to Knorr-Bremse AG, a leading manufacturer of brakes for trains and commercial vehicles, and BMW moved into a new facility on Lerchenauer Strasse. There it expanded into the industrial giant we know today, building engines for cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats and planes. It's taken the better part of a century to get that original factory back, but that's exactly what BMW has done, reacquiring the expanded facility from Knorr-Bremse this month.
The factory on Moonsacher Strasse will now serve as the headquarters for BMW Group Classic, the division that handles archives and historical vehicles for BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce. From there, just a stone's throw from corporate headquarters and its main plant (as well as BMW Welt and the BMW Museum), the classic division's operations will include a restoration workshop, vintage parts store, the company's archives, administration as well as a place to hold events. In addition, there will be an exhibition space for historical vehicles from the company's considerable collection.
At the heart of the new/old campus is the gatehouse, which is a protected heritage site and will serve as a gateway into the company's history. Read the full details in the press release below.
