Just did, .steering pump, front brakes, engine mounts, and transmission mounts. I am selling my 740i 2001 M Package Edition BMW. In my honest opinion, this is probably the last and best 7 series The 2001 740i M is the last body type of the E38 series, ..and was so popular, that once the 2002 745i came out, the 2001 actually appreciated in price due to the significant inferiority that came with the cumbersome new body ( and wealth of mechanical defects). The 2001 740i M comes with an M suspension , M Torque Converter, M FORGED Wheels ( expensive!) and a shorter final drive raton of 3:15. It comes with a steptronic transmission that has a nice sport feature along with the "Manual Mode". Let's put it this way...this car will ABSOLUTELY have better performance than any vehicle today new under 30,000$. Condition of this vehicle: I am the third owner. I treat my cars extremely well, I do not eat in them. I do not smoke, I replace what's broken and generally make sure that when I park, other people do not hit me. As you can see the car looks fantastic overall, although there are things that you would expect from a vehicle of this age. 1 There are dings on the vehicle, I don't know how they got there, they were there before me, I don't mind them - but you might. 2 there is a small chip of paint on the front by the grille, -- also before me. 3 drivers side seat has a small bit of faded leather ( also not by me). Now for the good stuff. 1 I upgraded the GPS system to a Mark IV - not III , that is standard - so its compatible with Bluetooth, and has 2012 maps 2. Brand new rear tires - less than 3000 miles on them 3. I changed the belts, fan clutch, steering pump, brakes, oil, brake fluid, steering fluid. The car is accident free, I have a clean Carfax from when I bought it. Very very low miles!!! just 77,900+ -you will not find another in this condition for this price, I dare you hehe. 4. Cold Weather package + heated seats, lumbar support, knee support, etc. Everything else just ask. Even though this car is from 2001, it comes with a lot of features not available in current cars under 30,000.00 1. Rain sensing windshield wipers 2. Rear AC, 3. Dual Climate Control 4. Cassette player 5. Premium DSP Equalizer - Entertainment Sound System 6. Steering Wheel Controls 7. DVD Navigation Split Screen with System Computer. 8. V8 - 292 hp. 9. 6 CD Changer 10. 10 way power seats, with lumbar support, and sport seats with knee support.

BMW names new head of M division

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

BMW's performance division has been run by Dr. Friedrich Nitschke since 2011, developing, among other products, the new M3 and M4. But soon the good doctor will be retiring, and BMW has just named his successor.
Taking Nitschke's place as chairman of BMW M GmbH will be Franciscus van Meel (pictured at right), who until recently served as managing director of Audi Quattro GmbH - the rival outfit that makes Ingolstadt's performance models, including the R8 supercar and RS line of performance models.
Van Meel will join BMW on October 1, presumably to learn the ropes from Nitschke before the 59-year-old executive steps down at the end of the year. Back in January, Audi named Heinz Peter Hollwerweger as head of Quattro GmbH and reassigned van Meel to its Beijing R&D center, a role which evidently didn't suit him as well as creating Autobahn-storming German muscle cars.

BMW M4 sheds some camouflage for latest test run

Fri, 15 Mar 2013

Last time we saw the upcoming BMW M4 out testing, it was heavily clad with camouflage and decidedly homely looking (as most early development mules are). But in this latest set of photos, the M3 coupe successor has started to come into its own skin, and we're seeing a shape more closely akin to that of a rendering we brought you a few months back.
Unsurprisingly, the M4 coupe looks very similar to the 4 Series Concept that BMW debuted at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year. And while non-M version of the 4er will likely look a bit more sedate, these spy shots clearly show an aggressive front fascia, large wheels and the usual quad-exhaust rounding out the rear end.
Naturally, the M3 sedan will launch before this M4 coupe (and convertible), and powertrain details are still unclear as of this writing. We understand that the current M3's naturally aspirated V8 will be axed in favor of some sort of turbocharged six-cylinder engine, and we've heard plenty of rumors as to what, exactly, it might be, but we have yet to hear any official confirmation.

2015 BMW M3 Sedan

Tue, 20 May 2014

BMW's all-new M3 Sedan is dynamically nearly identical to its two-door M4 Coupe sibling: a stopwatch reveals that both are sub-four-second cars to 60 miles per hour, a racetrack proves that the mechanical twins are equally as adept on a road course and a full afternoon of driving on public roads demonstrates that each possesses talented everyday adaptability.
Yet after driving both BMW models back-to-back over two full days in Portugal, it's clear there are a few noticeable differences, both objective and subjective, that don't require instrument testing to reveal. All it takes is a few hours behind the wheel of both cars to conclude that one is slightly more agile, and the other a bit more twitchy. One has better outward visibility, while its counterpart is unquestionably more convenient.
It is the little things - subtleties attained through seat-of-the-pants observations - that eventually allow me to choose a favorite.
