1978 Cadillac Eldorado on 2040-cars

Linton, Indiana, United States

We have here what was supposed to be my first car.  In 1981 my dad told me to find a car that didn't cost an arm and a leg and he'd cosign a note.  After a few days I found this Eldorado at a local Ford dealer.  He'd picked it up at auction as a government drug confiscation out of Florida.  It still had a false panel over the trunk floor.  And a mild shift kit in the trans.  And mag wheels.  And it was black.  Cool factor for a 16 year old kid in 1981?  Off the scale.  So I took the folks and showed them...and my mother bought it for herself the next day.  But that worked out because I got her triple black '73 Montego MX...

The Eldorado worked its way thru the family for the next 15 years or so until it wound up with me.  Finally.  I promptly had the vinyl top removed and the car stripped to bare metal and painted.  It was sweet, but I was just married and had a business I was opening and so I sold it.  Not my brightest moment.  So, a fast forward to around 2004 or 5 and this old guy comes in my office and says "Wanna buy that Cadillac back?"  Well I'd had a lot of Cadillacs so I said "Eh?"  He said "The black one"  Well I'd had some black Cadillacs by then, too, but my curiosity was piqued, even though I didn't remember the guy.  So we went to his house and out in his field was...my Eldorado.  So yeah, I said I'd take it off his hands.  Thru a battery in her and drove her home...

...and in 2007 I had a major health crisis I have just recovered from.  The Eldo sat outside...for 8 or 9 years.  There was simply nothing I could do with her and nobody else had the time.  And so what you see is what she is reduced to:  A parts car.  That's what I am selling her as.  She still runs and the trans shifts as far as I know but the body is rusty and the back floor boards are gone and the mileage is approximate(the title says exempt since she's over 10 years old).  The interior is crap.  The brakes are out and there is no exhaust.  But she's a 425 with 4 Western Wheels turbine mags and a whole lot of other good parts and a clean Indiana title.  Or, you could be slightly crazy and fix her in spite of her sad condition.

That's what I am kind of hoping someone does.

Pick up is entirely the buyer's responsibility and let's emphasize again:  She's a rough old car.  Don't expect anything BUT a rough, rusty old car.

A rough rusty old car that I hope someone saves from what comes next, because if she doesn't sell like this I'll be cutting her up before the 1st of July.  So do me and the car a favor and take her home with you. She's been a money pit her whole life but she's fun.

2015 Cadillac Escalade configurator lets you bling it your way

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

It's Friday, so there must be a new configurator to play with. While last week we showed you how to build your own McLaren 650S, today's ride is a bit more common. It's the 2015 Cadillac Escalade, a vehicle that you've been able to colorize since the end of last year, and which is sure to be an increasingly common sight on US roads in the coming months.
For those that have played with the build-your-Caddy tool, there's not much new here, aside from the vehicle being configured. The Escalade is available in three trims and two wheelbases, with prices spanning from the SWB, two-wheel-drive Standard, which starts at $72,690, on to the all-wheel-drive, long-wheelbase ESV Premium, which kicks off at $86,790. The options list, meanwhile, isn't hugely extensive. A rear-seat entertainment system and power-retractable side-steps (only available on the Premium trim) are the two notable options, while customers will have their choice of six exterior paints and two to three interior schemes, depending on the trim level.
Hop on over to Cadillac's consumer page and take a look.

Online Find Of The Day: 2008 Cadillac XLR picks up where Excalibur left off

Thu, 23 May 2013

We try very, very hard to keep snark away from creations like the one you see here. After all, someone poured plenty of enthusiasm, time and money into turning a 2008 Cadillac XLR into a modern interpretation of the new-old cars typically done by cottage builders like Excalibur and Clénet. Even so, it's hard not to wince when you set an eye on this machine. With its wheelbase stretched to accommodate the extra bodywork, goofy sidewalls and upkicked nose (examine it in profile, it looks slightly bent in the middle), this "neoclassic" takes whatever was loveable about the Cadillac underneath and buries it in a tacky grave.
Miraculously, the engine bay has been left unmolested, which means the retractable hardtop convertible still features a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine good for 320 horsepower. If only that were enough to outrun its shame. If, for some reason, you feel like taking this thing home, Harry Kaufmann Motorcars of Milwaukee says it can be yours for a paltry $74,998. We wish were joking. Check it out here.

Cadillac partners with Saks Fifth Avenue for limited-edition ELR

Fri, 08 Nov 2013

There's no softening the blow with this one - this is the limited edition 2014 Cadillac ELR Saks Fifth Avenue Edition, and it costs $89,500, including $995 for destination. The special model, limited to just 100 units, is part of a holiday season collaboration between Cadillac and luxury retailer Saks Fifth Avenue. In addition to the ELR, there will also be a special "Frozen Escalade" window display at the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store near Rockefeller Center in New York City, which will feature the 2015 Escalade with functioning LED running lamps that, as the automaker says, "appear embedded and breaking through a wall of ice."
But back to that ELR. This Saks edition plug-in hybrid coupe commands a surcharge of $14,500 over the $75,000 base model that over 85-percent of Autoblog readers polled already feel is overpriced. For that extra coin, you get an ELR wearing exclusive (to this car) White Diamond paint matched with either a jet black or light cashmere interior. Buyers will also receive an upgraded 240-volt charging station complete with professional installation, and the cars come with Cadillac's ELR Concierge service - representatives "trained in white-glove customer care" that serve as an additional point of contact beyond the dealership when it comes to topics like like battery care, charging, service scheduling and news updates.
Folks who order the Saks Fifth Avenue ELR are expected to receive their cars in March of next year. Price aside, we're sure it'll look great parked alongside the Neiman Marcus Aston Martin Vanquish Volante in owners' garages. Scroll down for Cadillac's official press blast.
