1972 Chevy K5 Blazer - Backyard Find!

I have for sale a 1972 K5 Blazer that I just found in a back yard in San Diego… It was sitting there since 2006. It has most of the original parts that match the Glove box tag and VIN. The K5 is original Olive Green “CST” with correct motor and undercarriage.  It does have a lift of approx. 4.5 “and retains the original Rally Wheels and Olive green interior.  As you can see from the pictures the truck was stored outside in San Diego weather it did not hurt it much. There is a rust area above the gas cap and that is about the only area that I see. The rockers are solid as well as the fenders and A pillars, no rust in the bed behind the wheels.  The suspension has a 4” lift and double shock front as well as double shock steering set up. The back window glass and hatch latch assembly is missing. I took pictures of the undercarriage and all looks to have been restored at some time due to no grease / grime on any of the parts. The engine bay is missing the Air Cond system and the distributor wiring loom has been spliced so I think a ignition wiring harness would need to be replaced… all other wires are connected and in the right locations.  I got the engine running using a separate gasoline source and a 750 Holley I had laying around (the Edelbrock carb was not functioning) … so it does run (see video link).  I put into gear and she went right into reverse and drive no problem, and the front axle hubs turned effortlessly. Truck is being sold “As Is” where is… These trucks are starting to go up in price.... why not start with one that doesn't need 5K worth of work to be nice.... just your laboe to clean up!  Pls check out all the pictures and email with any questions. I have the pink slip in hand. I have the tires aired up, and can help with transportation coordination, pictures etc.

Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car

Wed, 20 Feb 2013

We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....

Toyota tops Kelley Blue Book's Resale Value Awards

Tue, 27 Nov 2012

Kelley Blue Book announced its annual Best Resale Value Award winners, and we weren't too surprised to see the list dominated by Japanese automakers - mainly Toyota and Honda. KBB hands out the awards based on the projected residual value of mostly all 2013 model year vehicles, and Toyota skated home with a number of awards including 10 of the 22 overall categories and having five of its products in the top 10 for models with best resale value. KBB's Best Resale Value Awards were announced in the same week as the ALG Residual Value Awards, and there were many similarities between both lists, especially when it came to Toyota.
To come up with its winners, KBB measures depreciation over the first five years of ownership, and looks for the cars it expects to hold its value the best after this time; on average, the report says the 2013 model year vehicles will lose 61.8 percent of its value in five years. Of the 22 categories, 15 slots were filled by Toyota, Honda and Nissan products, while the Camaro and Porsche (Cayenne and Panamera) each took home a pair of awards. If Toyota has anything to be upset about in this list of cars, it's that categories for Hybrid/Alternative Energy Car and Electric Vehicle went to the Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Volt, respectively.
The overall top 10 models for the best resale value in 2013 are, in alphabetical order:
