This truck was a complete frame off restoration completed about one year ago. The 5.3 fuel injected engine and 4l60e overdrive transmission were out of a 2004 Suburban that I was told had around 80,000 miles. There is no way to verify the miles so who knows how true this is, all I can tell you is that I've put on around 6000 miles and it runs like a top. You can cruise the highway 75mph at just under 2000rpm.
The paint is nice, it does have a few rock chips from being driven but absolutely zero rust. I promise you will not make it through one day without someone giving you the thumbs up, yelling "nice truck" or wanting you to show them everything about it. Usually happens several times a day.
Once again, this was built to be a nice driver and not a full on show vehicle. (see build thread below) If you like to tinker it could be made nicer. Things like wiring clean up, labor only.
The ac could blow a little colder. It is a little overcharged right now so it blows about 60 on a hi 90's day. A little colder on the highway at speed. I had it blowing around 50 on the hottest days and added more trying to get it colder. Like I said, overcharged. It could be made better by having the charge adjusted by an expert. Or, the best fix would be to have the condenser changed to a modern parallel flow and then charged by an expert. I'm a windows down guy other than the highway so this was never a huge issue for me.
There is a driveline vibration from 5-10 mph. This could be fixed with the right shims. I have some 2 degree shims in there now which made it better, but not perfect.
Check the link below for full build thread from start to finish. I did not even come close to the dollar amounts mentioned in the beginning of the thread, and once I realized I wasn't going to make the budget I went ahead and spent what I had to. I stopped adding up receipts, but I would guess I'm close to double my target and my reserve is right around that price. I don't think you could build one any cheaper and if you start now you might be finished by next summer.

2015 Chevy Tahoe gets Police Patrol Vehicle treatment
Thu, 07 Nov 2013That was fast. Mere days after showing a Police Concept based on the 2015 Tahoe at the SEMA Show, Chevrolet has announced that it will build a PPV model based on the SUV to do battle with the Ford Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer) and Dodge Durango Special Service.
You'll recall that the Tahoe has been police staple for several years, predating both the Explorer and Durango police variants, so the fact that the new model would spawn a police variant is hardly surprising. Like the civilian model, the 2015 PPV benefits from a more efficient 5.3-liter, direct-injection V8 that pumps out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. It also features more high-strength steel, offering better crash protection, on top of optional safety items like lane departure warning, forward collision alert and a Safety Alert Seat.
The press release is rather light on police-specific items, aside from the auxiliary battery, which keeps the myriad of electronics in a modern police car running even when the engine isn't. Lightbars, 17-inch steel wheels on Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires and a push bar round out the mods for the Tahoe PPV. The cabin features a revised center console and room for laptop and other equipment mounts.

Chevy Corvette Stingray picks up another award, this time from Automobile
Mon, 18 Nov 2013The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has picked up another buff book accolade after capturing Road and Track's Performance Car of the Year award. The seventh-generation of America's sports car (sorry Viper, Mustang, et al.) has been named Automobile Magazine's Automobile of the Year.
Automobile's award to the Corvette over competitors is the mirror image of its rival Motor Trend, which named the Cadillac CTS its car of the year over the C7. The CTS was, according to the Automobile team, the closest contender to the mighty Stingray. Great news all around for General Motors it seems.
As for what pushed the Corvette past its distant, four-door cousin, Automobile commended its excellent, 6.2-liter V8 calling the car's performance "simply awesome" while also remarking that it is easier to drive fast than ever before thanks to steering and chassis tweaks. Following a theme set by other publications, there were also plaudits for the interior, of all things, with the buff book complimenting the car's ergonomics and material quality, while also praising the standard seats.
