I am listing my 1972 Chevy C10 for sale. This truck is restorable and needs some body work. I am a machinist by trade, so I machined and built a custom 400 small block Chevy engine for a street performance vehicle. My intentions were to restore the truck, but due to my divorce I had to install this engine in the truck to get it on the road and out of her driveway. This engine is a bit much for this truck but it has worked out well and this thing moves!

The base of the engine is a highly sought after 2 bolt 509 casting, small block 400 that has a higher nickel content than other 400's. It is bored and honed .030." The cylinder heads are Brodix aluminum castings that I ported, drilled the proper steam holes, milled, and put a performance valve job on before assembling. They are 187cc volume intake runners after the port work and flow well. ARP head bolts clamp the heads to the block. Comp Cams roller valve springs, retainers, locators, locks, guide plates, pushrods, etc.  The camshaft is an Erson custom billet hydraulic roller with 228/236 @ .050" and has .540" lift. I got the upgraded option that has a pressed on and pinned steel gear for the distributor ($75 extra.) No bronze or expensive composite gear required. The lifters are of the highest quality, Morel hydraulic rollers. This company (Morel) builds lifters for the top fuel cars and they make the best available today. They are over $600 a set. The timing chain is a 9 keyway billet true roller with a bronze wear plate and a roller cam button. The timing cover is a reinforced steel version to limit cam walk. Crower stainless steel 1.5 ratio full roller rocker arms. Edlebrock EPS intake manifold, 670 cfm 4 barrel Holley Avenger truck carburetor, MSD HEI Street fire distributor and wires, and NGK plugs round out the top end. It also has a new water pump, alternator, and starter. This truck has the power steering option and it works great. The crankshaft was magnafluxed, turned 10/10 on the rods and mains, knife-edged, balanced, has Clevite bearings and is retained by ARP main studs. The Pioneer 8" balancer is also a new and is for an external balance set up. I magnafluxed, balanced, polished, and reconditioned a set of 5.7 small block rods with ARP bolts. Pistons are Keith Black dished hypereutectics and total seal rings that I filed to fit the bores properly. Oiling is with a Melling M55HV high volume/high pressure pump, a heavy duty pump shaft, and has a ARP pump stud holding it in place. A Milodon steel pickup with Milodon 7qt low profile oil pan. I have done two oil changes to this truck because I have only put 780 miles on it since I installed this motor in August 2013. I have only used Brad Penn green oil in it and Fram HP4 racing filters. I have the compression ratio set at 9.7:1 for a pump gas friendly set up. If someone wanted to bracket race this engine, it would be a great candidate. The parts in this engine are overkill for a street rod and I did that so it would be a durable power plant. I have over $5000 in parts in this engine and I have receipts for most of it. With the labor of building, machining and porting a custom engine like this it would cost in the $7-8000 range through a shop. Probably more after they mark up the parts. You have to keep in mind this is not thrown together. These parts were a hand picked proven combination by a professional and blueprinted accordingly. I did not dyno this engine but I have used similar combinations before and depending on compression, they have made 450hp+ and over 500ft lbs of torque on pump gas all day long. It has ample piston to valve clearance and I set it up this way so the heads could be milled more in case I wanted to push this thing to the edge.

It is also lowered with Hotchkis springs and shocks. 2 1/2" in the front and 3" in the rear to give it an even stance. There is a larger sway bar on the front with urethane parts. The truck handles well. New front disk brakes and rotors, wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rods, idler arm, and center link. Shifting the gears is a turbo 350 and a 12 bolt truck rear-end out back. Dual exhaust all the way back and it has the stock truck manifolds that I port matched to the heads as well.

I have many extras to go along with it. Including a Harwood fiberglass show series 3" cowl, bolt on hood and the lightweight springs for it, I have extra door glass for both doors, 4 extra vent windows, another instrument panel cluster, and some other miscellaneous items. All of the gauges work and it has a tachometer that is not stock as well. Everything works on this truck like the blinkers, lights, wipers, heat, etc. The interior is in pretty good shape and the bucket seats are very comfortable. This truck was originally optioned with the 350 4 barrel set up.

The truck is rough but has potential. The gem is the 400 small block and the truck essentially comes with it. I don't have the time or patience to do the body work at this time. So I'm parting ways with it.

I require the buyer to handle all shipping costs and for the truck to be paid in full before the title and vehicle are exchanged.

WINNING BIDDER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PICK UP/SHIPPING, TRUCK IS SOLD AS IS WHERE IS WITH NO WARRANTY.

GM looks to combat high theft rates on SUVs with added tech

Tue, 24 Dec 2013

The Cadillac Escalade has been at or near the top of most-stolen and insurance-loss lists for more than seven years, until it dropped to number six earlier this year. In 2011 it was fitted with a host of new security features to address its easy-to-override features and that has brought the number of thefts down, but when eight of the ten most stolen rides are large SUVs from General Motors, no one will argue that something else needs to be done.
Thus, GM has fitted this same theft-deterring tech to the 2015 Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon. The Suburban and Tahoe will get the steering lock that the Escalade and Yukon already get, plus bolted-down third-row seats to deter thefts like this, stronger door lock cylinders and shields, and side-cut keys to inhibit picking.
Additional security measures in a Theft Protection Package can be purchased for $395, consisting of sensors on the greenhouse glass and interior, an incline/tilt sensor and added "key control systems" to make it more difficult for the men in black balaclavas to steal what you bought.

GM recalls 8,500 Chevrolet Malibu models for rear suspension glitch

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

According to a letter from General Motors to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, flaws in the build process of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu have led to the recall of 8,519 cars. Units built between December 6, 2011 and January 15, 2013 may have been assembled with rear suspension cradles that had insufficient torque applied to certain bolts. That out-of-spec assembly could lead to issues ranging from slight noises to a loss of vehicle control.
The problem was first noticed in December of last year by a GM test fleet driver and eventually tracked back to the improperly torqued bolts on the suspension cradle assembled through July 2012 by a supplier located not too far from the Malibu's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Since an official NHTSA recall notice has not been issued yet, it isn't clear whether or not Detroit-built Malibus were the only ones affected (the 2013 Malibu is also built at GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas). Dealers will fix the problem by inspecting vehicles for proper torque specs, retightening if not within specs and, in some cases, perform a rear-wheel alignment.

C7 Corvette makes inaugural ad appearance in Chevy's first spot with new slogan

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

Chevrolet's "Runs Deep" tagline has finally been run into the ground, replaced with the Bowtie brand's "Find New Roads" slogan that's part of parent General Motors' plan to unify its everyday brand's marketing efforts worldwide. The new Chevrolet campaign was ushered in on prime time last night during the Grammy Awards on CBS, and the first spot, a 90-second full-line ad, also marks the first appearance of the 2014 Corvette Stingray in a commercial.
Being a full-line ad, the commercial is composed of vignettes centered on different vehicles in the brand's lineup. The all-new 2014 Impala also makes its first commercial appearance in dapper fashion, and time is spent on a skateboarding Sonic and a bouquet of brightly colored Spark hatchbacks driven by fashionable women. The ad starts and ends with Chevy's green halo car, the Volt, along with a young girl with her robotic dog (yes, really).
Chevrolet's "Runs Deep" campaign got off to a rocky start in the fall of 2010, but it did last for a couple of years with some tweaks. This new one, "Find New Roads" seems more intent on drawing new customers into the fold than the outgoing tagline, which seemed to play more toward the brand faithful. It admittedly reminds us more than a little the short-lived "Find Your Own Road" Saab motto (which, we note, was conceived while the Swedish brand was under GM's control), but no matter, we still think it's got more long-term potential than "Runs Deep."
