Up for sale is a 1976 Chevrolet Stepside Scottsdale 4x4 regular cab, with dual gas tanks, saddle bag gas tanks.  This truck was purchased and shipped from California 2 summers ago and has been sitting in a garage for the past winter. The truck runs great and sounds very strong.  It has lots of torque and horsepower.  The engine is a big block that was put in by another owner many years ago, however the owner i bought it from was not sure of the exact engine size and i have had a hard time decoding it, even with the help of some guys at various automotive shops.  It has an EFI ignition, with new alternator, new battery, new starter, as well as a new steering housing unit.

The entire front end has been redone, with the exception of the front sway bar, which has brand new polyurethane bushings, clamps and bolts.  The truck is sitting on a fairly new 4 inch Pro Comp suspension lift with a four inch block in back, originial springs and Pro Comp springs up front with Pro Comp shocks all around.  I recently purchased brand new Pro Comp shocks for the entire truck and put the new ones on the front.  I have a brand new set ready to be installed on the rear along with a set of brand new rear Pro Comp 4 inch leaf springs to replace the 4 inch blocks, giving it a much better ready and reducing axle wrap!

The truck has the Stepside bed with saddle bag gas tanks, two 16 gallon tanks, one on each side.  It also has the wood bed, which was replaced about ten years ago and is showing a little bit of wear in the wood now, but mainly just needs a good sanding and staining from being weathered.  Brand new inner fender wells, along with new front bull bar and some new chrome on the front trim.  I just did an oil change and put on a K&N oil filter, along with a new Fram aif filter.  It has dual exhaust and the exhaust is in great condition, as well as sounds great!

Truck is painted blue and was repainted by previous owner, but there are areas where a little patch work was done such as on drivers side door.  There is minor bubbling in normal spots, such as along the rear taillights, small areas on the under part of the bed and some bubbling, with minor rust on the front lip of the hood.  The tailgate of the truck is showinig some signs of rust on parts of the lettering, and this seems to be the worst area.  There was minor welding done underneath both driver and passenger side floor boards, where a 6 inch by 2 inch piece was welded on each side to protect the underside where i think rust was starting to form.

Overall, the truck is in very good condition for a vehicle this old and has been well taken care of.  I have driven it up to about a 60 mile stretch at a time, as well as on highway and it runs very nicely and strong.  I haven't really gotten it above 65, just because it's a tank and i take it easy, but i'm not sure of how far, distance wise, if someone were to drive it cross country.  The gas gauge for both tanks, doesnt seem to be reading correctly, so i have just been filling it up randomly and it seems to get about 10-12 miles to the gallon, which is pretty good for this big engine.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.

Helicopter crashes on Top Gear Korea set while chasing Corvette ZR1

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

The formula of Top Gear Korea is seemingly about the same as it is everywhere else in the world, including the flagship British original: involve interesting cars in fantastical situations with charismatic hosts. That prescription has proved to be pretty reliable over the years, and has lead to some truly memorable and exciting pieces of television.
Something like that was undoubtedly what the Korean producers were after when they lined up this segment - a drag race between a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and an AH1 Cobra military helicopter. The planners almost certainly did not expect the filming of the segment to go quite as wrong as it actually did, with the helicopter actually crashing into the dirt after the "drag race" had been completed. Thankfully, we're told that no one was seriously injured in the crash, but the footage, in the video below, is pretty damn chilling to watch, nevertheless.
