I've owned this truck since 2004.   The truck had some restoration completed at that time, mostly mechanical.  In 2007, I put the truck in the body shop for work.  I replaced any new metal parts with GM factory parts only. (i.e., hood, drivers' door, one fender and tail gate.)  The bedsides were repaired by cutting out the oxidized metal and replacing it with new steel. -NO BONDO!- Custom paint job conversion to a two-tone red and white, like the originals, with factory striping to match. I have since added the new step bumper.  Total investment for body and paint, alone: $12,000.

Once the body was complete, I replaced the worn out 400 small block with a brand new GM Vortec 350 crate motor (from Scoggin-Dickeys in Texas), the same motor found in the later 90's chevy trucks.  Keeping fuel efficiency in mind, I opted for strength and reliability over the original, gas-guzzling big block.  The motor, fitted with performance pistons, the vortec heads, aluminum intake, electronic ignitionceramic-coated headers and topped with an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb., the motor is rated at 330hp. The original, mechanical fuel pump was replaced with an electronic, Holley high-performance pump.  The truck has been fitted with a 2-inch suspension lift from Skyjacker to give it a little more height.  The transmission has been completely rebuilt and a shift-improver and transmission-cooler have also been added. The transmission has performed flawlessly since being upgraded. Both fuel tanks (20 GAL) have also been replaced.  The lower front steering assembly was rebuilt just last summer.

There are minimal rock chips below the molding on both sides and a three-inch crack in the center of the dash where the center speaker is located (see pics).

I have personally invested well over $20,000 into this truck.

PLEASE NOTE: I will work with the buyer to arrange pick up of this vehicle, I WILL NOT SHIP.

Supercharged 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 takes the C7 beyond the ZR1

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

The Z06 is just about everything we got in the last ZR1, but better.
After a bright-yellow false start, here is the real thing: the fourth-generation, 2015 Corvette Z06. If Chevrolet makes a ZR1 version of the C7 Corvette, it's going to be absolutely mega, because the Z06 is just about everything we got in the last ZR1, but better.

Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car

Wed, 20 Feb 2013

We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....

Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
