1970 Chevrolet K20 Pickup on 2040-cars

Year:1970 Mileage:64522
Location:

Wichita, Kansas, United States

Wichita, Kansas, United States

1970 Chevy, 3/4 ton, 4-wheel drive, with 64,522 original miles. Purchased new on 7/20/1970 by the Arkansas City, Ks Fire Department, this truck was used exclusively for grass field fires. The second owner purchased the truck on 6/30/1988 with 20,618 miles, after the F.D. traded it in for a new truck. I have owned the truck since 8/1/1991. The entire drive train is original to the truck, except for the suspension system.
Over the years we had a couple accidents and I replaced the sheet metal with original GM parts, I have always had the intention of restoring this truck to it's former glory, but eventually we have to realize that there is too many projects and not enough time or money to complete them. I believe that I have not put more than 1,500 miles on the truck in the past 15 years, even though I make a great effort to keep the battery up and run the engine once a month, there is a few leaks that are common for a vehicle that has sat for long periods of time. I have been buying parts for the restoration over the years and they will be sold with the truck.
The suspension system, wheels and tires are approximately 5 years old with less than 200 miles. The front clip is GM, hood, fenders, outer grill, inner grill. I also have a pair of GM rockers, after market cab corners, passenger bed side, drivers door, inner fenders, front bumper, windshield rubber, emblems and tan interior pieces, dash pad, arm rests, door panels. I have aquired most A/C pieces, except for a compressor, brackets, lines and condenser.
There is two factory brush guards that I put through the test (add they failed)they are included, hopefully someone can make one good one out of the pieces.

I am available to show the Pickup after 5pm on weekdays and any time during the weekends, with advanced notice. Please contact me after 5pm M-F and anytime during the weekends with your questions. Phone calls or e-mails only. Please no texting, I don't receive them.

Thanks, Mike

2015 Chevy Tahoe gets Police Patrol Vehicle treatment

Thu, 07 Nov 2013

That was fast. Mere days after showing a Police Concept based on the 2015 Tahoe at the SEMA Show, Chevrolet has announced that it will build a PPV model based on the SUV to do battle with the Ford Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer) and Dodge Durango Special Service.
You'll recall that the Tahoe has been police staple for several years, predating both the Explorer and Durango police variants, so the fact that the new model would spawn a police variant is hardly surprising. Like the civilian model, the 2015 PPV benefits from a more efficient 5.3-liter, direct-injection V8 that pumps out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. It also features more high-strength steel, offering better crash protection, on top of optional safety items like lane departure warning, forward collision alert and a Safety Alert Seat.
The press release is rather light on police-specific items, aside from the auxiliary battery, which keeps the myriad of electronics in a modern police car running even when the engine isn't. Lightbars, 17-inch steel wheels on Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires and a push bar round out the mods for the Tahoe PPV. The cabin features a revised center console and room for laptop and other equipment mounts.

GM recalling 118K Colorado, Canyon pickups over missing hood latches

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

General Motors has announced a recall of 118,800 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks due to the possibility of secondary hood latches not being installed at the time of manufacture. The affected vehicles are from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 model years, all of which were built between November 9, 2009 and August 28, 2012.
According to the official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, these trucks fail to "comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 113, 'Hood Latch System.' The hood may be missing the secondary hood latch." In other words, owners of these trucks could find their vehicles' hoods opening unexpectedly while driving.
The official recall campaign is expected to begin on January 17, 2013. Dealers will inspect the affected pickups and if a secondary hood latch is not present, one will be installed free of charge. Scroll down to read the official NHTSA report.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.
