1998 GMC 3500 HD. 15,000LB GVW. Dana 80 axle rear, king pin front, ten bolt 19.5" wheels, double frame from cab to rear axle. Engine runs good and evenly, trans shifts good, exhaust is good, front end is tight,

Rawson Koenig RKI body in good shape, only surface rust on solid interior floors, locks work and have key Plow is a 9.5' unimount mvp. Hoses are good, pump is newer. Wiring harness is new, mount is almost new. Also comes with a straight blade unimount harness (used). The plow weighs 900-1000lbs and the front axle only drops an inch when the plow is raised. Truck never had a plow before a couple weeks ago and has not been used as such.

The BAD: The fuel sender for the rear tank does not work correctly. The tires are LOW. The vehicle will plow as is but needs 2-5000lbs of ballast depending what you are pushing. the passenger side door has body work as pictured from opening too far. There is a problem with the fuel pump check valve? as in the vehicle will start at practically the bump of the key but sometimes when it is warm takes 3-5 seconds of cranking.

Overall it is a good looking and running medium duty truck, but it is 15 years old and needs TLC here and there. To get a comparable truck you would be looking at an F450 NOT a newer IFS 3500HD.

If the package hits $6000 I will go half on a rear set of off road style tires BUT maybe we can work something out, Mike 262-309-745 won

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.
