Up for sale is a very nice affordable 1969 Camaro.

X11D80 Trim code   D80 - Air Spoiler Equipment (when used not all cars built with spoilers were coded)

I recently acquired the car and it is a means to an end for me because I am saving to buy a fastback Mustang or 68-69 Chevelle. There has been a lot of time and money put into this car, it has many new parts and it is very close to being a high dollar car.

I have a reasonable reserve on the car, and whomever buys it will always be able to get there investment back. And with some work there is much potential to profit if that is what you want.

I am going to be completely honest and forthcoming on what I know about the car, because I know it is a big deal buying a car online and I want you to be well informed so you can feel good about your decision to buy this car.

It is my opinion based on several years of experience in the mechanical world and my experience with Mustangs that this car is a solid 7.0-7.5 on a scale of 1-10, with the potential of being an 8-8.5 easily.

The car runs great, sounds great and looks like a 30,000 car but it is not perfect. I will start by listing the major components and what I know about them.

It has front disc brakes,(new) factory 350 engine, power steering, and a 12 bolt rear end. It is a non a.c. car. It is a factory X11 trim code and original V8 car with a blue color (Dusk Blue). Factory black interior.I am not sure if it is a real SS, but it has all the items on it that I know about.

I encourage you to come see this car, but I understand you may not be able to so I will give very detailed descriptions. Please read my terms at the end so we all understand the process and can have some fun buying as well as selling.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA E-MAIL AND I WILL GIVE YOU MY NUMBER AND WE CAN TALK.   d9vid66@yahoo.com

Engine:

It has a strong running 350 with an HEI distributor, headers, and a Carter AFB carburetor with a Weiland intake. There is no visible smoke or major leaks at this time.  It sounds great and seems to have been built with a higher duration cam. I was told the engine was rebuilt by the previous owner but I do not have the documentation to back that up. I have just had the headers removed and had new perma-torque gaskets installed.

Rear End:

The rear end is in great shape and it is a 12 bolt. I am not sure if it is posi or what the ratio is. It has no leaks and makes no weird noise.

Transmission:

The transmission is a 700R4 4 speed automatic with a Brand New B&M Ratchet shifter. The transmission shifts fantastic and has a nice freeway cruising speed. I took the car to a local reputable transmission shop for an inspection and to make sure that the B&M shifter is adjusted correctly. I was told, and believe that the transmission was rebuilt using high performance parts. It works great and does not leak.

Interior:

The interior is in really nice shape. It does need a headliner and I will have it done if I do not sell it. It has a new carpet and the seats are in great condition. I do not believe that they have been re-upholstered, there are no visible tears or rips that I can see. The dash pad is in great shape and may be new, the lower dash looks like new. It does have an aftermarket din style radio and it works but does not sound all that good. The steering wheel is a wood original style and is new. It has an aftermarket tach, also oil pressure and water temp gauges that work great. All the factory gauges seem to work well, speedo, and gas gauge. The key switch works great but seems a little loose. The heater works well and the floor vents also work well. The Astro vents are a little worn, but I have new ones still in the box that go with the car. The windshield wipers work but the passenger one does not move. Not sure what it is at this time. The doors open and shut well, and I have installed new strikers. It looks like new felts and rubber bumpers and the window rubber looks good. The door panels are in great shape, the rear quarter panels and sill panels are out and I have them and they are in great shape. I may have the headliner put in sometime soon if it does not sell here. With a new headliner and some easy tinkering the interior could be a 9.0 out of 10 or even a 10! It is a factory black trim code.

Exterior:

The exterior of the car is almost perfect! The fenders are new and the doors are nice and straight and appear to have no major filler or obvious bodywork. It has the front chin spoiler as well as the SS rear spoiler. Both quarters have been replaced and it looks great. I was told that the floor pan was also replaced and looks great from inside and underneath the car. The trunk lid shuts perfect and looks great as well as the rear of the car. No body cancer or rust bubbles that I can see. I ran a magnet across the car and it passed my test. The paint is very nice, I will leave that up to your interpretation, but I think it is better than driver quality. It does have flaws but I would not worry about it at all. I will try to take pics of all the little items I can see, but I am not asking 30,000 for this car. The front header panel has a dent in it, but I have a new one that goes with the car. All the trim looks new or very good original. All the glass is in good condition with no cracks or major flaws. It has a steel cowl induction hood that fits and looks great. The paint is a beautiful yellow that has been cut and buffed. All the external lights work well. The front core support looks nice and has no signs of ever being hit. The car has all the Super Sport trim and badges. The grill is perfect. The black vinyl top looks perfect as well does the trim surrounding it.

Drivetrain/Brakes Exhaust:

I took the car to a reputable shop and had the front brakes done. New master cylinder, new calipers, new and new rotors. They told me that all the suspension parts look NEW! The exhaust is new and it has been lowered about 2” I have purchased the parts to have it brought back to the factory height and If you buy the car and like it low I will leave it but I will give you the parts. $400.00, front and rear springs. If it does not sell I will have it done next week. The wheels are factory rally wheels, 15 X 7 in the front and 15 X 10 in the rear. The rear tires are new and the front are about 50%. Sub-frame connectors to strengthen the body, the appear to be new.

The car is now at the tire shop getting some Cooper raised white letter tires put on it. I will make sure to post the pics as soon as I get it back tomorrow.

I HAVE LOTS OF PICTURES AND I WILL SEND YOU ANYTHING YOU NEED TO HELP MAKE YOUR DECISION TO BUY THIS CAR!

Thank You!

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

GM recalls 8,500 Chevrolet Malibu models for rear suspension glitch

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

According to a letter from General Motors to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, flaws in the build process of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu have led to the recall of 8,519 cars. Units built between December 6, 2011 and January 15, 2013 may have been assembled with rear suspension cradles that had insufficient torque applied to certain bolts. That out-of-spec assembly could lead to issues ranging from slight noises to a loss of vehicle control.
The problem was first noticed in December of last year by a GM test fleet driver and eventually tracked back to the improperly torqued bolts on the suspension cradle assembled through July 2012 by a supplier located not too far from the Malibu's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Since an official NHTSA recall notice has not been issued yet, it isn't clear whether or not Detroit-built Malibus were the only ones affected (the 2013 Malibu is also built at GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas). Dealers will fix the problem by inspecting vehicles for proper torque specs, retightening if not within specs and, in some cases, perform a rear-wheel alignment.
