This is a 1981 Chevrolet Camaro with the factory Z28 Option. 1981 was the last year body style for the second generation "F Bodies". This car is in very good to excellent condition physically and mechanically. The car has spent the vast majority of its last 33 years in Georgia. I have personally inspected the floor pans and trunk pan and they are in excellent condition. This is a really solid rust free car that I drive on weekends when the weather permits. Listed below is a summary of the car's current condition:

Paint and Body: The car was repainted red in the past few years, originally is was a brown car. It looks excellent but is not a show quality paint job. I would score it an 8 on a 10 point scale. The body on the car is rock solid. I have a car fax that I found in the car from 2008 which shows no reported accidents or damage. All of the window glass is factory original and marked Soft Ray. I have inspected the frame on a lift and do not see anything unusual. The car was reported with 51,775 miles in 2008 and has 56,836 today. I have no way of knowing the true mileage as the title was marked exempt by GA many years ago. This car spent most of its life in Albany, GA and has no rust in the floors or trunk. The trunk has not been splatter painted and we can pull the interior carpet for inspection should you wish. There is nothing to hide with this car from that perspective. All of the factory decals are in place and the car is certainly a high end driver as it stands today. The wheels are the factory option N90 alloy wheels and they are in excellent condition. They have all 4 center caps and the original black alloy lug nuts. There is a matching set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires in size 245/60/15 that are in excellent condition.

Interior: I have just replaced the carpet. The dash has two cracks that I have filled rather than installing a dash cap. It is not an unsightly crack and filled pretty well. The original seats are in good condition, however, there is a split in the drivers seat base. Rear seats are in excellent condition. The car is equipped with a custom sound system which includes a period correct Alpine cassette player with new Rockford Fosgate speakers. All of the gauges work with the exception of the clock. All of the lights (dome, courtesy, trunk) work. The cigarette lighter works. The seat belt buzzer works. This car has not been disassembled as most have and everything is there and works as it should as I have found. If I were going to replace anything in the interior it would be the door panels and the weather seals at the door. They look good but are not perfect with imperfections from age. The headliner and trim are in good condition and it is all there.

Engine and Mechanicals: The engine is the numbers matching 350ci motor and I have matched the last 6 digits to the VIN. I have felt above the gas tank and can state that the build sheet is still there and available to the next owner. I have looked the motor over and all of the factory connections and parts are still there. It still has it original Rochester carburetor and has not been modified. The A/C will work but needs to be recharged. I have just replaced the entire exhaust system with a stainless dual Flow Master set up which set me back almost $600. All of the fluids have been recently changed and the motor runs and idles flawlessly. I also changed out the spark plugs and air filter this past weekend. This car sits in my garage and does not leak oil or transmission fluid to speak of. I have not invested any time making the motor look pretty. It is all there and original to the best of my knowledge and sounds and runs great. This is an area where the next owner can take the car to the next level. The engine bay needs to be detailed but there is no rust to deal with (including the core support, it is solid). All of the lights and signals work, the horn works, the wipers work. The power windows work. The power door locks work sometimes (actuators are weak). The engine idles at 600 rpm with a great loping sound, it runs great and the transmission shifts as it should. There is no smoke or smells coming from the engine bay or exhaust. The car is also equipped with air shocks on the rear.

If you take the time to check my feedback you will see that every couple of years I sell a car. All of my feedback has been positive. If you have questions, please ask. I am selling this car to purchase a new Jeep Liberty for my daughter for her high school graduation. Other than that, the car can sit right where it is sitting today. I have a clear title in my name along with odds and ends like the 81 dealership brochure and original magazine articles on the car. My buy it now is set at $11,250. A couple of weeks ago a similar car was bid up to $13,400 but did not meet reserve. Haggerty estimates the value of the car at $14,000 for a #3 car. The values on the 2nd generation "F Bodies" continue to rise and solid cars are hard to find. If you have read this far....thank you for your interest. If you need additional photos or have any questions please contact me through ebay.

Expect greater differentiation in GM's next-generation SUVs

Thu, 03 Jan 2013

General Motors says its next-generation Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade models will offer shoppers improved interior differentiation. Car and Driver recently caught up with Chris Hilts, GM's creative manager of interior design, who said that the cabins will all feature unique instrument panels, consoles, center stacks and switchgear moving forward. Apparently GM is now aware that consumers may be bothered by the fact that today's $85,000 Escalade has effectively the same cabin as a $45,000 Tahoe. Hilts says SUV buyers want more refinement than their pickup purchasing counterparts - and those same buyers also want their SUVs to have more exterior differentiation between the company's Silverado and Sierra pickup lines. Shocking.
That all sounds good to us, but we've heard this song and dance before. GM made big waves about how different the new-for-2013 Silverado and Sierra would look from each other, but judging by what we've seen so far, GM's stylists are painting in shades rather than with the full spectrum. GM looks to combat high theft rates on SUVs with added tech

Tue, 24 Dec 2013

The Cadillac Escalade has been at or near the top of most-stolen and insurance-loss lists for more than seven years, until it dropped to number six earlier this year. In 2011 it was fitted with a host of new security features to address its easy-to-override features and that has brought the number of thefts down, but when eight of the ten most stolen rides are large SUVs from General Motors, no one will argue that something else needs to be done.
Thus, GM has fitted this same theft-deterring tech to the 2015 Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon. The Suburban and Tahoe will get the steering lock that the Escalade and Yukon already get, plus bolted-down third-row seats to deter thefts like this, stronger door lock cylinders and shields, and side-cut keys to inhibit picking.
Additional security measures in a Theft Protection Package can be purchased for $395, consisting of sensors on the greenhouse glass and interior, an incline/tilt sensor and added "key control systems" to make it more difficult for the men in black balaclavas to steal what you bought.

General Motors shaking up its marketing... again

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

One of the things that dogs the full comeback of General Motors is the instability of its marketing. That part of the automaker got yet another big shakeup today when GM confirmed what I have been tweeting for a few days - strong rumors that the Chevrolet and Cadillac ad accounts are walking to new ad agencies.
Cadillac, GM's luxury brand, is going into review from Fallon Worldwide, Minneapolis and the indications are that Campbell-Ewald, Chevy's old ad shop, will end up with most or all of it. C-E just announced that it was moving from its long-time home in Warren, MI to a new downtown Detroit office next to Ford Field, just blocks from GM.
The other shoe to drop shortly will be the shift of GM's most important brand, Chevy, from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners of San Francisco to McCann-Erickson of Troy, MI. McCann used to be the agency for Buick and GMC, as well as GM's corporate advertising, and has retained some pieces of business over the last few years. Sources have even told us that it was McCann that did a lot of the creative work on Chevy's new ad platform, Find New Roads. (Not to be confused with a former McCann tagline for Saab, "Find Your Own Road.")
