| | GORGEOUS, FRAME-OFF RESOTRATION BY JOHN EVANS RESTORATIONS! DIRECT FROM HIS PRIVATE COLLECTION, THIS LOADED SUPER SPORT IS MAGNIFICENT! OPTIONED WITH A/C, 4-SPEED MANUAL, POWER STEERING & DISC BRAKES, POSI, AND MORE! AWESOME SOUND & POWER! | | SPECIFICATIONS | Year | 1969 | Make | Chevrolet | Model | Chevelle SS Convertible | VIN | 136679K456604 | Mileage | 650 | Engine | 454ci | Cylinders | V8 | Transmission | 4-speed manual | Title | Clear / MO | Color | Garnet Red | Interior Color | Parchment Vinyl | | | DESCRIPTION | We are very pleased to offer this brilliantly restored 1969 Chevelle SS396 Convertible clone finished in code-correct Garnet Red (52A) with White convertible top and matching Parchment bucket seat interior (790). Under the hood of this example lies a professionally built, big block 454ci V8 engine producing a dyno-tested 466 peak horsepower and 522 lb. ft. of torque using mostly stock components! All while staying detailed & dressed as a factory-appointed 396ci V8 of the period. Additional options include M21 close-ratio 4-speed Muncie transmission with Hurst shifter linkage, 12-bolt rear axle fitted with 3.31 Posi-Traction, factory air conditioning, power front disc brakes, power steering, buckets seats with center console, Rally gauges with in-dash tachometer, F41 competition suspension, 14” SS wheels wrapped in Firestone Wide Oval F70-14 tires, power folding top, and upgraded Custom Auto Sound AM/FM radio in the stock location! Using a solid condition, factory 1969 Chevelle Malibu Convertible, John Evans Restorations fully photo documented this build from start to finish! Having represented and sold past Evans cars, we know from experience they are built right by completely disassembling the vehicles to their bare foundations in a true frame-off, rotisserie manner. This particular car was extra special by being John Evans personal car for his own private collection! It began in 2006 with the entire body and chassis completely media-blasted to bare metal. The frame, inner fender wheels, and suspension components were epoxy coated black. What rust that was found in the lower, rear quarters and a small area on the interior floor was removed and replaced with only GM replacement panels, otherwise this body remains largely original sheet metal. All body panels & components were treated to expert preparation that included two coats of poly primer (inside & out), multi-stage block sanded, re-primed a second time, blocked again it two increasing grits, fully sealed, then received its final top coat in a PPG base coat/ clear coat application before being color sanded and polished to a mirror-like finish! It looks absolutely amazing from all angles! The engine machine work and build was completed by JCM Machine Shop in May 2007 with a 1973 date-coded Chevrolet 454 engine block that was bored .030 and fitted with all new forged internals, Comp Cams Extreme Energy flat tappet hydraulic camshaft, rebuilt heads with new valves & springs, stock exhaust manifolds, Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum dual plane intake, Holley 750cfm carburetion, K&N air filter, new water pump, new fuel pump, belts, correct GM hoses & tower style clamps, HEI ignition, and more! It’s true displacement now measures 460.39ci with 10.5:1 compression, so it was designed to run on premium pump gas. The 1969 date-coded M21 transmission was supplied from Wayne’s Transmission and installed with new CenterForce clutch, balanced driveshaft from Driveshaft Unlimited, new u-joints, and interior pedal assembly & linkage. The 1970 rear axle was also fully rebuilt & seals with the Posi-Traction gearing. With the chassis prepped & painted, it was fitted with all new OEM brake lines & complete fuel system, all new brakes at the wheels, body & suspension bushings, front end components, drivetrain mounts, wheels, trim rings & caps, & tires, entire 2.5in exhaust system, and more! With an all new interior, all wiring harnesses, convertible top, weather stripping , chrome trim & badging, body side stripe, it’s truly is as new as vehicle could be, with no expense spared to make it as much a stunning show car as it is a very competent driver! Included with the car are a CD of the restoration photos, dyno sheet, and owner’s manuals. With the vehicle completed in late 2007, it has been pampered by John Evans with occasional showings and cruises, with mileage accumulating to only 650 miles on the odometer today! We invite questions or calls to arrange a personal inspection of this fine automobile. We look forward to working with you!

The backlash is beginning. Following General Motors' price hike of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra last week, dealers across the country are expressing their ire over increasing prices in the face of rebates and discounts on trucks from Ford and Ram. Speaking to Automotive News, Sam Pilato, the general manager at Dimmitt Chevrolet in Clearwater, FL, Silverados are "selling very poorly." W. Carrol Smith, the president of Monument Chevrolet in the heart of truck country, Texas, said, "[GM's] position is that the vehicle stands on its own and it doesn't need a bigger rebate. That's not what the market is telling us." According to AN, that's the general attitude amongst Chevy and GMC dealers across the country, where the twin pickups are getting butchered in sales by competitors offering up to $9,000 off their sticker prices. Part of the problem for GM is that its trucks are arriving on the market near the end of the current F-150's lifecycle, a fact that Ford has taken advantage of.

General Motors says its next-generation Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade models will offer shoppers improved interior differentiation. Car and Driver recently caught up with Chris Hilts, GM's creative manager of interior design, who said that the cabins will all feature unique instrument panels, consoles, center stacks and switchgear moving forward. Apparently GM is now aware that consumers may be bothered by the fact that today's $85,000 Escalade has effectively the same cabin as a $45,000 Tahoe. Hilts says SUV buyers want more refinement than their pickup purchasing counterparts - and those same buyers also want their SUVs to have more exterior differentiation between the company's Silverado and Sierra pickup lines. Shocking. That all sounds good to us, but we've heard this song and dance before. GM made big waves about how different the new-for-2013 Silverado and Sierra would look from each other, but judging by what we've seen so far, GM's stylists are painting in shades rather than with the full spectrum. For more on the what to expect out of GM's new SUVs, click on the C/D link below.

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22. Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
