I am selling this great-looking vintage car for my neighbor.  He has described it to me and I'll try to pass along the information in detail; also, I've taken a lot of detailed photos.  But I'll also be glad to pass along contact information so you can talk with him directly, and of course, you are encouraged to come and inspect the car in person before the end of the auction.

As a bit of background, my neighbor is not a dealer.  He would like to keep this car - I can tell, it absolutely hurts to put it up for sale!  However, he has bills to pay, and needs to see it sold.  It's a 1971 Chevelle with 119,359 actual miles.  The car was restored 10 years ago, and purchased by a school-teacher.  She kept it garaged and took good care of it, but sold it when she changed jobs last year.  (Lots of that going around, I'm afraid...)  The car is pretty impressive: Original green-on-green (the interior's all original, the paint of course has been re-done), the chrome is all pretty decent but could stand to be buffed out a bit.  There are a couple small bubbles or under-paint rust blisters near the driver's-side wheel wells, but nothing major (see photos).  We don't think it has ever been wrecked or had any major body work.  The paint is professional and looks great!

The motor was overhauled a year ago; the transmission is new.  The battery is brand-new; the tires are Cooper Cobra Radials and are almost new (about 95 percent).  It has disc brakes, and rally wheels with chrome beauty rings.  (Power steering, power brakes.)  The suspension has been lowered.  This is an original AC car, but the air conditioning is not currently connected - it's in the trunk, ready to be installed.  Also in the trunk is a variety of parts and pieces.

The inside of this car will transport you back to 1971!  With the exception of the Kenwood CD player/radio, it's pretty much 100 percent original.  There is a small hole in the headliner, otherwise it's in incredibly good shape; I also saw one tiny place where an upholstery seam is separating near the bottom of the passenger seat's back (down near the floor), and there's another one above the back arm rest on that side (see photos).  Otherwise it is very, very nice.  (They don't make seats this comfortable nowadays!)  The rear door cranks aren't attached but are both there, the glovebox door needs a latch but is otherwise complete.

Again, please examine the photos carefully, and if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask!  I will do my best to answer them, or will refer them to the car's owner.  We are located about 10 miles west of Bloomington, Indiana - if you wish to see the car in person, please let me know and I will help you to make arrangements.  The seller is motivated, and the reserve is reasonable, we hope this beautiful vehicle will find a new home.  I wish all prospective bidders the best of luck!

Who sold the most heavy-duty pickups in 2012? PickupTrucks.com investigates

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Domestic manufacturers enjoyed a good year for heavy-duty pickup sales in 2012. PickupTrucks.com has taken a close look at exactly how those sales broke down between each manufacturer and between three-quarter and one-ton pickups. Ford sold some 67,786 F-250 Super Duty models last year with the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD falling just behind at 56,359 units. The Ram 2500 HD came in third at 41,918, while the GMC Sierra 2500 HD earned itself fourth place with 27,616 deliveries. While Ford held onto the top spot in the one-ton market, Ram easily nailed down second place by selling more 3500 HD models last year than General Motors sold Silverado 3500 HD and Sierra 3500 HD trucks combined.
So, did GM manage to sell more trucks than Ford with its two brands? Very nearly. Ford sold a total of 119,338 heavy-duty pickups to GM's 111,555. Ram, meanwhile, moved a distant 77,583. But perhaps more interesting is the diesel take rate in this segment. PickupTrucks.com says 80 percent of all domestic one-ton trucks roll from the dealer lot with a turbo-diesel under the hood. Head over to the site for a closer look at the breakdown.

Chevy monitors drivers' biometrics while experiencing new Corvette Stingray

Fri, 25 Oct 2013

We tell you about what a car is like to drive every day, remarking on throttle response, steering weight and feedback, squat, dive, brake fade and a dozen or more other factors of performance. What we can't tell you, though, is what the car does to us - how its performance impacts us, physically. That's what makes this video series from Chevrolet so darn cool.
The Bow-Tie brand rented out Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, got several (very) different individuals together, strapped a bunch of sensors to their bodies to record biometric data ranging from heart rate to respiration to brain activity, and then handed them keys to the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The results are explained in a series of videos, devoted to each driver, showing how different people react to the Corvette's performance.
If, like your author, you're a nerd for medical science, this is going to be a fascinating set of videos. If not, it's still pretty cool to see how the body of someone with racing experience, like Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, reacts to tracking a car like the Corvette Stingray compared to the owner of legendary Detroit barbecue joint, Slows BBQ. Take a look below for all six videos from the series, or hop over to the Corvette Vimeo channel for the interactive experience, where you can see all the different metrics.

First privately owned Corvette Stingray blitzes 1/4 mile in 12.23 at 114.88 mph

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Chevrolet's latest road rocket, the Corvette Stingray, is a very quick car. If one needs further proof of that, we recommend they take a look at this video from Hennessey of what is claimed to be the first privately owned C7 Corvette to make a pass down the quarter mile. Not just any quarter mile, mind, this black C7 blitzed its way down the tuner's primary testing dragstrip. The Chevrolet ran the quarter in just 12.23 seconds at 114.88 miles per hour. That is a very quick time for a stock car.
Equipped with the Z51 package and a six-speed automatic transmission, not only does the C7 run a solid time, but it does so with little to no drama. That won't last though, as Hennessey will likely return it to its owner with far more power - we just hope they show a drag run of the completed product. Take a look below to watch the C7's 12.23-second run on video.
