1971 El Camino SS 454 Project, let me start out by saying how I came about the car, I bought the car from a restoration shop in Florida, I have been after this car for a long time now, the gentleman that had the car was in the slow process of getting the car redone when he passed away and the car has been sitting dormant in a shop till I was able to get the car from the family. The gentleman that had the car by my understanding from me and him talking at one time, bought the car from a local guy who owned it and bought the El Camino for the sole purpose to tow his LS6 chevelle to the drag strip, which the car still retains its trailer hitch that was used. The car in its present condition is a project, but a very great project for someone. The only rust that I know of in the car is a little in the bed, which you can see from the pictures. The floors are perfect from what I can see. The front fenders have one or two little bubbles coming up in them. But the best part is that the rear quarters have already been replaced, and where put in very well. So the little bit of rust left would be an easy fix for someone. The car features a cowl induction hood with factory hood pins, A/c, p/s, p/b, tilt wheel, buckets and console. But the best part is that the car is a factory SS 454 LS5 car, and I do have the correct numbers matching 512 block that has already been redone and is new wrapped up in plastic on my floor with a steel crank in it. The motor is standard bore and comes with a correct set of LS6 piston and rods. The piston and rods where in the motor when the car came to the restoration shop by my understanding. The transmission in the car is a Turbo 400, and I do not know if its the numbers matching trans, because I have not crawled under their to check. The rear end in the car is a 12 bolt, and looks to have never been taken out. The worst part of the hole car is that the cowl tag is missing off the top of firewall, I was told by the restoration shop that the tag was taken off by the owner, and I never got it from the family after he passed. I can look and see from the door jams and all that the car might have come from the factory a green color and had a white bucket seat interior. Most of the interior is still in the car, including the seats and complete SS dash, the tachometer and tilt wheel is still in the car. The Original shifter is still in the car but the console itself is missing. Under the Hood, the compressor and most all A/c stuff that I can tell is still their, as well the p/s and p/b setups. The car at one time was changed to headers and their still in the engine bay. The radiator is in the bed of the El Camino but the radiator topper is still attached under the hood and still retains the sticker that says 454 on it. This is a great project of a real car. And is going to make a amazing car when done. The car is for sale locally and is subject to be taken off if sold. The car is sold as is with no warranty. A 25% deposit is due within 3 days of the auctions end and the balance due within 7 more when the car is to be picked up or arrangements are made for the car to be shipped. If you have any questions about the car please fill free to ask and I will gladly answer them to the best of my ability. Thanks and God Bless Kody 251-454-5455

GM says hybrid Corvette no laughing matter [w/poll]

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

When Mark Reuss was in LA recently, he sat down to have a few words with the scribes at the Los Angeles Times. When the issue of a hybrid Corvette came up, Reuss answered with "Don't laugh." The General Motors president is a complete fan of the possibility, calling it "attractive" and "really fun," believing it would improve GM expertise and that "people would love it."
Naturally, the president being supportive of an idea doesn't give indication that a hybrid Corvette is on the way. However, with supercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari giving hybrid tech a solid, if remote, place in the performance car world, the inexorable trickle-down of technology means we shouldn't be surprised if and when it does happen.
And now that we have that non-negative half-answer to a speculative question, it would be irresponsible for us not to commence rumormilling for the C8 Corvette. Taking Reuss at his word, the C8 will obviously be a hybrid with all-wheel-drive - the left side wheels driven with electric motors, the right side with the mid-mounted, four-cylinder diesel engine. With coefficient of drag of just .16, figure on a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of under 2 seconds and an all-electric range of something like 30 miles at top speed. Don't forget, folks, you read it here first.

GM 6.2L V8 claims most powerful light-duty truck engine title

Thu, 12 Sep 2013

General Motors has officially captured the horsepower crown for mainstream pickup trucks with its 6.2-liter V8. The big mill, available in both the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, comes to market with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, handily outdoing its two cross-town competitors, Ram (5.7-liter V8, 395 ponies and 407 lb-ft) and Ford (6.2-liter V8, 411 hp and 434 lb-ft).
The new GM 6.2 will take a bit of an investment, though. Those that want the extra thrust will need to go with either the LTZ or High Country trims from the Chevy, or the SLT and Denali trims from GMC, which are the two highest trim levels for the respective vehicles. Trim levels aside, if you're in the business of towing, GM has you covered. Optioned with the 6.2-liter V8 and the Max Trailering Package, owners will be able to pull 12,000 pounds, a hugely impressive figure.
We still aren't certain as to what sort of economy the new engine will get, but it'll probably be a bad bet for the fuel conscious. As for availability, expect to see the 6.2-liter trucks in showrooms later in the fall.

Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.
