Chevy Van 2004
Chevy Express LS full size (not extended body), 12 passenger van, modified inside (to a lesser
degree) to a 5 passenger. I bought it new with a list price of $32,700, it
has a $2800 1SB extra package with power options and other extras (I
show the original sticker price window tag and other factory paperwork, showing all options, in the pictures). The van
has 128,817 miles on it, I have never had any problem with the
engine, drive train or anything major aside of the transmission which most likely needs a rebuild or a replacement (I have no reason to think otherwise but cannot be sure, of course). The only reason I am not fixing it is because I dont have the money and I dont need the work aspect of the van
anymore. The only other problem is with the side
doors, I had them fixed once and was only charged $100 (but
apparently that was because it was a quick fix which didnt last that
long). Apparently they need hinge pins, the hinges are not bent or
damaged but the gap
between the doors is very close and I dont use them because it got so
difficult to get them closed after a while...I recommend not opening
them until you are ready to fix the problem. I even disengaged the power locks (just by blocking the connection
in the door jamb) so they wouldnt unlock and get opened inadvertently. You can see in the pictures that there is a bigger gap on the right door (where it meets the front door) leading me to believe that it is likely only that door that needs attention. I would think it shouldn't be a very expensive repair but I never pursued it either. One of the extras that come with the van is a spray can of the same paint color, I show a touch up in the pics over the back wheel well which
just started to rust due to a past scrape (I didnt even bondo it, I just
sanded it) and you dont even see it unless you really look, so you should be able to touch up the hinge repair quite acceptably without having to pay a body shop to paint everything, saving a lot of money of course. Here are some other details which only really
pertain if you intend to use the van...There is only
one key but I have spare remote start/lock remotes as well as the
original key-less entry (door lock) remotes. Actually,
I had the remote start system programmed to unlock the rear door only (when
you pressed a certain button)...it can be set up however you want but there is no reason to do that, it otherwise works normally (you can set it up to open windows etc.). I did this so I could open the rear doors for work, and not open everything up for security reasons...It is a nice remote start system. I also have a fake alarm light on the dash, in plain sight, which blinks red when the van is shut off...I dont like the 'waste of time' noise part of an alarm system and the light is all that is deterring that type of car thief anyway...I have all paperwork to most everything (remote start), stereo parts, radio, amps, speakers, roof racks etc., as well as the
vans manual and other paperwork. |

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible headed for Geneva debut
Mon, 28 Jan 2013While most of the world is still coming down from all the hype surrounding the debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, we're already looking to the future. And according to Autoweek, the next chapter in the C7 story will unfold at the Geneva Motor Show in March. That's right, General Motors is reportedly using the Swiss stage as its venue to debut the Corvette Stingray convertible.
If this strikes you as odd, you aren't alone. After all, with a car that's such an American icon, we'd fully expect Chevrolet to unveil it here on our shores in either Chicago or New York. But according to Autoweek, GM is looking to boost export sales of its halo car, and since the C7 was engineered to compete with the world's best and brightest, showing it off in Geneva is somewhat of a smart move. What's more, those with sharp memories will recall that GM used the Geneva expo to debut the sixth-generation C6 Corvette convertible back in March 2004, so there's also a precedent.
Details surrounding the Corvette Stingray convertible are still slim, though we fully expect the 6.2-liter V8 and choice of either six-speed automatic or seven-speed manual transmissions to carry over unchanged. Prototypes spotted on the road showed the car fitted with a cloth convertible roof, as well.
GM won't sell 2014 Chevrolet SS in Canada
Thu, 21 Feb 2013Allow us to be the first to extend our condolences to our friends to the north. General Motors has announced the 2014 Chevrolet SS will not be available in Canada. The Globe and Mail reports the automaker has confirmed the high-performance sedan won't hit Canadian dealers, though GM hasn't offered up any reasoning as to why that is.
Buyers here in the US of A, meanwhile, can look forward to getting their hands on the 415-horspower, rear-wheel drive SS by late summer. Something tells us it won't be long after that before Canadian officials start seeing individually imported 6.2-liter V8 four-doors in their neighborhoods. Fortunately, Canadian buyers will still be able to take home the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. The C7 bowed at the Canadian International Auto Show last week, reportedly drawing sizable crowds and interest.
GM execs fired over fraudulent India emissions testing
Mon, 29 Jul 2013General Motors hadn't had a recall in India since 1995. That changed when it was discovered that certain employees were playing tricks with local emissions testing in order to ensure passing grades for engines. More than ten GM Powertrain employees in India and the US have been let go over the ensuing emissions flap, including Sam Winegarden, VP of global engine engineering, a man who has been with the company since 1969, leading development of some marquee powerplants.
According to Automotive News, an internal investigation revealed that employees "violated testing procedures," sometimes swapping specially prepared low-emissions engines during testing regimes for the Chevrolet Tavera SUV equipped with the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines. Employees were also manipulating weights in order to get vehicles placed into different emissions categories. The discovery has led to GM recall the 114,000 Taveras produced over an eight-year period and halting their production and sale.
The Economic Times of India reports that the issue is due to "a faulty component." GM has developed a solution to the issue, and once it is validated in testing and approved by the Indian authorities, the recalled vehicles will be fixed at dealers and production will resume.
