Selling my 1950 Bad Ass Chevy 5 Window truck.  Built by myself and a couple of very talented auto customization industry friends over the last few years.  With the exception of the body (original with no corner cab rust or any rust) and the frame, almost everything is new within the last 3 years. To start...it's still rides on it's own frame...No S-10 here.

Exterior. Custom all around as follows.

Single Stage Sherwin Williams 50% satin/50% flat black....not primer

Roof is chopped 3 1/4 inches but the windshield is raked back about 9 degrees. Doors are suicide using the original hinges just swapped from left to right. Doors are activated with the remote popper and an emergency button under the hood along with retro cool knobs inside to exit the truck.  Hood center strip and all handles/emblems have been removed and filled, as have the wipers. Vents still remain. Roll pan in front and back. Rear fenders have been widened by 2 inches (all steel) to accomodate the 10" rear wheels. The running boards were then re-contoured to allow wider fenders. Smoothed/rounded fuel filler. Rear tail lights have been water jet cut into the stake pockets and bed rail lights also added. The tailgate is my own design and features no mechanical parts at all. The chains have been removed and none of that tacky spring loaded catch or seatbelt tongue junk. There are aluminum cups on the inside of the tailgate that house ultra strong neodymium (rare earth) magnets that ride against the bed sides and hold the tailgate tightly closed. To open it, just pull down---with a lot of force. Do some research, these magnets are ultra strong and don't wear out. I can cruise down the freeway at 80 mph and the tailgate does not move. In addition, I've put cables and stops on the tailgate which allow you to open it and have the tailgate stay parallel to the ground...I used this to allow me to transport motorcycles and then rest a ramp on the tailgate.  The bed floor is out of a late model Chevy and has had 4 tie down pockets added to it with new cross members to support tying down motorcycles. The running boards and bed floor and sides are all professionally coated with the best spray liner I've evr seen..It's a local Phoenix company and the texture is 100% uniform and consistent with no "popcorn ceiling" looking lumps or bumps. The color of the liner/running boards is very close to the paint, but, offsets it enough to look really cool. The windows are tinted and the front windshield is v-butt glass...and yes, even the corner cab windows are glass...not lexan or plastic...haven't seen another chopped 5 window with glass corner windows.

Interior:  Headliner, door panels and seat all redone in a nice gray with some color flecks and red piping. As the truck has A/C, I intentionally kept the bench seat so I could install a custom drawer under the seat---the drawer front is just cut out from the platform and then a drawer box (steel) was made with heavy duty full extension guides added with a heavy welding magnet on the back to keep it closed. I store a flashlight, wrenches, zip ties, screwdrivers...whatever you want right underneath the seat. In addition, there is a Pioneer CD player in the dash with 2-- 6x9's in the kick panels, 2--4" speakers in the seat platform, a Pioneer amp under the seat and a 12" Pioneer sub/speaker box behind the seat. The dash was also modified to put the a/c ducts in the dash and house the controls below the stereo in the bottom of the dash. The Vintage A/C plastic housing is tacky and was trashed as soon as the A/C went in. All new Classic Instruments gauges (gray with red needles) are also installed. An auxiliary outlet was also added to the dash. Shifter was moved from the floor to the new Flaming River tilt column and a Grant steering wheel was added.

Chassis/Drivetrain/Under the truck.  A custom driveshaft was made to allow the rear wheels to move back into the center of the rear wheel wells as the stock look is kind of wacky. The rear end was completely rebuilt and is a 10 bolt Posi from a Camaro. There are leaf springs on the back with 3" lowering blocks for that aggressive stance. New Cragar wheels have 295-50-15's on the back and 275-60-15's on the front. Rear shocks are mounted and about 2 years old. The front end is a TCI Mustang 2 with 2" drop spindles and 1 round of coil cut off the springs to drop the front just lower than the back. 11" disc brakes on the front, drum on the rear with the bias set just right. A new R/P steering was also installed along with the front end. The master cylinder is under the drivers side cab. New 3" exhaust pipes exit just in front of the rear wheels. The tranny is a 700R4 w/over drive and it gets about 18 mph on the freeway. The motor is a 350 with a few minor mods...Weiand Intake, Holley Carb and the whole thing has about 8000 miles on it and it runs just fine. A 2300 cfm Spal fan, wired to the ignition, helps cool the brand new radiator. Vinatge A/C (heater not hooked up), a 100 amp Alternator, new starter and battery are also on the truck. The motor, like the exterior and interior has the "blackout" treatment with just a few red accents. There is a collectors edition Jack Daniels bottle as the radiator overflow mounted in a cradle on the firewall. The gas tank is a N.O.S unit for a 67 Chevelle with the filler relocated from the back (license plate) to the front side and it has 2" pump hose running inside the frame rail from the original filler location. It's a nice, wide, but shallow tank, and along with the filler hose, it holds about 22 gallons but the tank cannot be seen from behind and none of that stupid looking "filler in the bed" nonsense.

So, all in all, although I call this thing "50 Rat"...but, it's far from that. There are a lot of one of a kind custom features and it was all done professionally...nothing was "rigged". It gets noticed, commented on everywhere, has won awards locally and runs perfectly. The reserve is fair, but, not cheap...don't waste your time if you're not prepared to pay for what you get.  I've represented this 100% as it is.  There are 3 things that may be considered as "issues".  1.  there is a scratch on the paint behind the drivers door where some moron yanked the door too far back before the doors stops were added. 2. it is not quiet inside. Dyna mat was installed on the firewall, but, nowhere else...so, you get your road noise and a few rattles---it is a 1950 body/frame.  There are a couple of gouges/scratches on the window tint if you want to have that re-done.  Beyond that...drive it, show off in it and enjoy it. It was built to drive.

I will require a $500 Paypal deposit and a wrie transfer or cashiers check only....unless you bring cash. If it sells out of state. I'd gladly take it to any shiiping point ith the Phoenix area.

I'll post more pictures in the next day or so.  Please feel free to ask any questions, and, good luck.

Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra show all their sides in Detroit

Tue, 15 Jan 2013

There could hardly be more riding on the next-generation General Motors full-size pickup trucks, so the automaker has wisely made sure to have a selection of different models on hand at the Detroit Auto Show to show off. The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra were both officially introduced last month at a stand-alone reveal, and now they'll be on display for the public to see in various body configurations and trim levels.
The Silverado LTZ Crew Cab and Sierra SLE Extended Cab are aimed at providing more of a high-end pickup experience, while the Silverado LT Z71 Extended Cab and Sierra SLT Z71 Crew Cab should have off-road fans scouting out their favorite trails. The crew cab trucks won't go into production until sometime during the second quarter of this year - with other bodystyles coming later in the year - but we have plenty of live images from Detroit for you to enjoy.

Chevrolet Captiva looks mildly refreshed and ready for family duty

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

We showed you Chevrolet's major debut yesterday, the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible, but General Motors is making a big push for Bowtie consideration in Europe, so it's also introducing the updated Captiva crossover here at the Geneva Motor Show.
While still based on the same platform as North America's fleet-only Captiva Sport (which is effectively a rebadged Saturn Vue), the Captiva is available in both five- and seven-seat iterations, and it looks far more modern. That's particularly the case with this updated model, which features revamped front- and rear ends that include restyled bumpers, grilles and LED taillamps, among other changes.
As before, the midsize Theta-platform CUV will be available in both front- and all-wheel drive, and is expected to carry a range of four- and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. Important US programming note: Chevrolet sources tell us that America's Captiva Sport will not receive these updates.
