1959 Chevy Apache Fleetside Project Truck 383ci Stoker & 350Ti 3 Speed off IROC CAMARO

Submitted for your consideration is a partially restored 1959 Chevy Apache fleetside 1/2 ton pick up truck with a 383ci stroker small block, headers, 350ti turbo 3 speed automatic transmission, custom front wheel struts, and a 3:23 ratio matching positrac rear end that was all removed from a 1985 Chevy IROC Camaro. As you may know already these late 50's Chevy trucks are getting near impossible to find these days in good condition. Most of these dry restorable California classic trucks are being exported out of the country & sold for top dollar elsewhere. This is a private auction for your safety. FYI this classic truck is for sale locally. I recently bought this truck from the estate and the previous owner died just before its completion. I have a clear non op title. The estate seller said at least 12K+ in receipts had already been invested in both body & mechanical upgrades to date. If you were to purchase this 59 Apache fully restored built up as this one is as described you would be paying at least $35K I assure you. Vin number research states that this truck was built in Los Angeles, California back in 1959. This vintage 55 year old truck looks to be set up as a high end hot rod by the last builder. Check out the straight body alignment & ultra straight tailgate. Not much serious body rust/rot to speak of. Rocker panels, floorpans, & cab corners look rock solid pictured. Exterior body surface looks to have been completely prepped/painted which will save you the high bidder/buyer alot of time & money. Unit both runs & shifts good when gas is poured directly into the carburetor. All I have done was to use some compressed air to blow off the dust & dirt to show the exact condition of this classic truck just the way I got it. This way you know what to expect. No hype here. Front bumper not pictured is included with the sale. Please note: You will need to replace fuel lines, check brake pressure, replace wood bed, replace some glass & little of this & alot of that to complete this 55 year old project truck to your specifications. These 50's fleetside Chevy trucks are red hot right now & this one is ready for your imagination. If I missed something on the auction let me know & I'll try to answer to the best of my ability. Truck has been relisted because of a non paying bidder last week. ASK QUESTIONS before you bid & DO NOT BID if you can not pay as ebay auctions are both $$$$ expensive & time consuming. Truck is located in Lone Pine, California 93545 for your shipper information. Full payment is due within 7 days of the auction end. Sold As Is Where Is as pictured. I can help load. I can trailer locally within California/Nevada for an additional fee. $500.00 deposit is due within 24 hours & full payment due within one week of purchase. Call/text Mike for a chit chat @ seven six zero two six four three nine eight eight. I love talking about classic trucks. Thanks for looking!

GM applies for LT5, LTX trademarks... are new small block variants coming?

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Recently discovered General Motors trademark applications for LT4, LT5, LT88 and LTX have observers wondering what kind of high-performance offerings could be on their way. A new LT4 would mark a return of the engine designation first used on the Corvette Grand Sport, SLP Pontiac Firehawk and SLP Chevrolet Camaro SS from 1996 and 1997. Supposition at Corvette Forum - which provided advance intel on the C7 like these leaked images - believes a new LT4 could go into the high-performance trim of the next-gen, 2015 Camaro that would be more powerful than the 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1.
Seeing an LT5 again would also be déjà vu - in its former life it was a 5.7-liter V8 for the C4 Corvette ZR-1 from 1990-1994 designed by Lotus, producing from 370 hp to 405 hp. A mix of rumor and hope is that the new LT5 will be a supercharged evolution of the 6.2-liter LT1 (pictured) placed in the new C7 Corvette, and that it will go into the C7 version of the ZR1 pumping out something like 700 hp.
The LTX trademark is, as with that last letter, a complete mystery. If the "X" isn't a generic way to denote the whole LT family, it's wondered if it LTX could refer to a crate motor offering like the LSX.

Chevy SS prototype spotted wearing Pontiac G8 clothes

Tue, 28 Aug 2012

Do not adjust your computer screen, you are not seeing the rebirth of the Pontiac brand. General Motors has chosen to use a G8 to disguise a test mule for the latest prototype of the forthcoming Chevrolet SS. The G8 was closely related to the Holden Commodore and Vauxhall VXR, the platform upon which the new Chevrolet performance model will be based. It should come as little surprise, then, that GM has opted to use the cladding from the former G8.
Thought the front clip of this mule is pure Pontiac, note the vents immediately behind the front wheel. That is a distinctive design hallmark of the Vauxhall VXR. Also note that this vehicle is right-hand drive, as the Holden and its Chevy counterpart will be very closely related. That likely includes potential drivetrains. The spy photos of this mule also reveal very wide rear tires, and rear wheels that do not match the fronts.

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.
