Here is an extremely rare 1960 Chevrolet Apache 1/2 ton short wide from Oklahoma.  It needs a few things to be finished up.  It is not even close to being perfect, just a good looking truck, the paint has chips and a couple of bubbles on the front lower corners of the doors, even has bug guts from a little night driving.
It has every piece of trim unique to the 1960 that was available that year even the trim under the back glass that was only offered on the 1960, there may be very few in early 1961 but I have not seen one.  All trim is stainless, including grille, not aluminum.  I've seen the side cab sails and this long connector piece on Ebay for $1500, not sure if it ever sold but that's how hard these are to find, very few of these trucks and/or parts left.  I paid $1,000 to complete the stainless side trim set just because I wanted every piece that belonged on the truck and it's now all there, and more.  The door glasses and wing windows (original) even have the original chrome around them and roll up and down perfectly with all new felts and rubbers.  It has a custom console with stainless cup holders and a Sony Explode stereo system with 2- 6" speakers  and  2-6X9's on the kick panels.

The truck has a 1989 Chevrolet truck 350 , serpentine belt, polished aluminum valve covers, Edelbrock 650 carb and 700r4 transmission with a  1979 Pontiac Trans-Am, disc brake, 10 bolt posi-trac with 273 gears (cruises at high speeds with ease)  I have the lock up converter on a toggle switch which drops the rpm another 400 rpm in high gear.
This model 700r4 had a digital speedometer so I installed the mechanical gears to run the original speedometer, the cable is good, the speedometer worked for a short time but does not work now.

New tires and American Racing wheels.  Rear wheels were special order 5" inside back space to get the 295/50/15's to clear with no problems.  The wheel tubs were widened 3" also.  4 wheel power disc brakes with all new calipers, the rear has drilled and slotted rotors.

New 2 1/2" dual exhaust all the way to the rear with Flowmaster Super 44's, sounds awesome.  This was the last exhaust system that Billy Jack of Chouteau Oklahoma installed, he installed thousands of exhaust systems over a 30 year period, he always done quality work, he was very good at what he did and done a super job on this truck too.

Blue dot Tri-bar headlights and blue dot lens on the rear.

Power rack and pinion steering with tilt, chrome steering column and walnut/chrome steering wheel.

Stainless steel bed strips and bolts with black walnut from Johnsons' saw mill in Spavinaw Oklahoma.

New stainless steel tail gate chains and latches.

 New aluminum radiator.

 New chrome door sill plates.

 New front and rear bumpers.

New stainless steel windshield wiper arms.

Again, the truck is not a show truck.  If you want something that needs very little work and is very rare, this is it.  If you are looking for a show truck, please look at other trucks.

Here are the things that needs to be done.

1.   Needs the back glass which is cracked right now.  I tried to install it by myself so it has a new gasket, I just broke the glass.

2.   Needs carpet, arm rests and seat upholstered.  The seat frame is in good shape to be recovered, it is the original 1960 seat that came in this truck.

3.   Needs the windshield installed, it is a brand new windshield and looks like it is in but it is not.  I drive it like it is with no problems but I don't drive it in the rain either.  I can't find anyone around here that will install it, everyone says the wide stainless trim in the rubber and the curved glass makes it one of the hardest windshields there are to install.  With the help of a friend we got it close, but not in, I was afraid of breaking it.  I'm not a glass installer (see line 1)

4.   Needs speedometer, cable and gears in transmission are good.

I'm sure I have missed some things, feel free to ask anything.

The buyer will be responsible for any/all shipping costs.  I live about 3 miles from a major intersection ( 69 and 44 )  truck stop so loading is not a problem.

Make me an offer.  The most I can do is say no.

Thanks for looking

Hot Wheels' Twitter-enabled vending machine coughs up free Camaro diecasts

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

There are still plenty of companies that haven't gotten the whole social media thing down pat yet, but Hot Wheels isn't one of them. During the recent Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, Hot Wheels created a lot of buzz for itself by using a vending machine filled with Chevrolet Camaro models, but instead of money to get the cars, show attendees just had to use Twitter.
To get the free car, people were asked to send a tweet to Hot Wheels Canada saying what they liked about the new Hot Wheels Edition Camaro, and including the #ChevyCIAS hashtag. This seemed to be a popular marketing tool, too, as AdWeek reports that the @HotWheelsCanada account more than tripled in followers during the course of the 10-day show. Looking ahead, this could open up even more innovative marketing possibilities using social media.
Check out the video posted below to watch how it works, and while the auto show has ended and the free-car giveaway has too, we're almost certain that some of the 1,500 freebies will make their way onto eBay.

GM investing $167m in Spring Hill for new midsize vehicles

Tue, 06 Aug 2013

General Motors has announced a large investment in its Spring Hill, Tennessee facility. The former home of Saturn production will be getting a $167 million addition to a previously announced $183 million, to cover a pair of new midsize vehicles. The investment is expected to create 1,800 jobs at the factory.
That $350 million is being divvied up for a pair of programs at Spring Hill. The first will take the bulk of the money ($223 million) and create 1,000 of the 1,800 jobs, while the other will take the remaining $127 million and generate the leftover 800 positions. But GM says the investment will cover "midsize vehicle programs." So what could they be?
The leading candidate in our minds is a new crossover for Buick, called the Anthem, that will slot between the Encore and Enclave, but will be slightly smaller than the Equinox and Terrain. As we've explained, the new model will likely be the first product to sport GM's new D2UX platform, which will eventually replace both the Delta and Theta platforms. Spring Hill is already building the Equinox, so there could be some credence to this theory.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
