Up for your consideration is a 1972 Chevrolet 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban. This classic truck is one of only 879 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburbans built with the clamshell doors in 1972. This vehicle was frame off rotisserie restored 5 years ago and has been daily driven since. Very, very reliable. This truck has a 402 big block motor a 700R4 overdrive transmission and a 4.10 gear ratio. The rear end is factory equipped with a No Spin differential. The original owners manual with the Idento-plate is in the glove box along with the No Spin manual. It also has all the usual power options, power steering, power disc brakes and heavy duty cooling system. The truck has been repainted in the original Medium Olive inside and out. The Toyo A/T tires only have about 3000 miles on the and they are mounted on powder coated 16 inch stock style wheels and finished with stock hubcaps. This truck was upgraded with a stock style tachometer and rear heat under the middle seat. It originally had 2 bench seats but has been further upgraded with the factory 3 bench option. The original restored 2nd bench is included in the sale as is a baby seat recovered to match the original green and black houndstooth seat skins. The body of the truck has been Rhino lined below the lower body line for chip resistance. Additionally the Suburban has been upgraded with front and rear air conditioning. The system is complete and only needs charging. This upgrade was done using all factory parts, only new hoses were added. Front and rear air was a one year option for the three door Suburban. Three CDs with over 800 pictures of the restoration process will also be given to the winning bidder. There are a couple of flaws in the paint as would be expected on a daily driven truck(See pics). There is also a hidden Custom Autosound AM/FM/CD stereo under the front seat but the controller and remote are pretty worn out. There are two kick panel speakers and two 6x9s in boxes in the back. The boxes have been covered in matching green vinyl. The original AM radio is still in the dash and it works. This will make a great show truck or family hauler for the winning bidder.

GM sweetens military discount for Buick, Chevy and GMC

Sun, 06 Oct 2013

American servicemen and women interested in a new vehicle from Chevrolet, Buick or GMC now have a bit more incentive to head down to their local dealer, as General Motors has announced plans to improve its military discount program.
The new GM Military Discount Program offers eligible consumers a new Chevy, Buick or GMC at invoice pricing, which in some cases can take very large chunks out of a car's retail price. When factored in with other incentives, most of which are available with the Military Discount, the bargains are thick on the ground for members of the US armed forces.
GM's Retail Sales and Marketing Support general manager, Chuck Thomson, said, "GM has long supported the military and military families, and we hope this simplified and enhanced discount will show our appreciation for their service and help make it easier for them to own one of our great new vehicles." The program is open to all active duty and reserve members in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard and Coast Guard, as well as veterans that have been out of the service for less than a year. Military retirees and their spouses are also eligible for the discount.

GM recalling over 243,000 crossovers over possible seat belt defect

2010 Buick Enclave - Click above for high-res image gallery
The summer of 2010's recall hit parade continues unabated today, with General Motors having just announced that it is asking 243,403 owners of its 2009-2010 Lambda crossovers to bring their three-row haulers in for inspection. The culprit? Second-row seat belts in select Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook CUVs have "failed to perform properly in a crash."
According to GM, a second-row seat-side trim piece is to blame, as it can impede the upward rotation of the buckle after the seat is folded flat. As a result, if the buckle makes contact with the seat frame, cosmetic damage can occur, potentially requiring additional force to operate the buckle properly. So far, no great shakes, but in the process of applying that additional force, the occupant may push the buckle cover down to the strap, potentially revealing and depressing the red release button. As a result of this, the belt may not latch, or in certain cases, it may actually appear to be latched when, in fact, it isn't.

Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner

Sat, 24 Aug 2013

For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
