Suburban Z-71 One Owner Excellent Condition on 2040-cars
Asheville, North Carolina, United States
Original owner - extremely clean Z-71 Suburban. I bought the truck at my local Chevy dealer in summer 2003, and it has been bullet-proof reliable. At 300 miles I changed oil to Mobil-1 full synthetic 5-30. Oil has been changed since new using Mobil-1 Syn every 6,000 miles (22 oil changes and counting). Other other routine maintenance performed at local Chevy dealer. Have all service records and receipts since new. Truck has needed very little since new, other than periodic brake service/replacement, tire replacement, and regular service/oil changes. Oil was just changed 200 miles ago.
In May 2012 I had a $3,000 Alpine CD / DVD system installed. Includes large format LCD screen, all new speakers, new amp, I-pod usb connector, and Bluetooth. Sounds excellent! New Cooper Zeon LTZ tires installed in Nov. 2012 and have at least 50% life remaining - very good tread depth. These are excellent in rain, snow, and off road, and also have a very rugged & aggressive look. Exterior underwent full detail in June 2013. Paint was cleaned (clayed), polished, waxed and sealed. Paint looks excellent near new - per photos. Light tan colored leather in good condition other than tear in drivers seat from normal use. Has the captains chairs 2nd seat option Interior (split/folding) and removable 3rd row. Leather cleaned & treated, and carpet professionally cleaned in spring 2014. Non-smoker. New Lloyds floor mats installed December 2013. This is my daily driver, runs great, has no issues, and needs nothing to my knowledge. After 11 years with this great truck, I finally bought a new Suburban (another black Z-71 !) so its time to move on. |

Chevrolet donates 300 vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Super Storm Sandy took out a lot of automobiles in its path of destruction through the Northeast last October. The number surpassed 250,000 at last count, and a few of those were owned by Chevrolet - cars either sitting on dealership lots or waiting at port to be shipped off. Rendered unsellable by the water damage inflicted by Sandy, these vehicles were facing the crusher. But Chevy didn't send them there.
Instead, Chevy had a better idea: It will be donating 300 of these vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders at Guardian Centers in Perry, GA. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, which is an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are practically a consumable commodity there, where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.
Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used "in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises." While grim scenarios all, we're certainly glad there are people out there preparing for the unexpected. While a zombie apocalypse isn't officially on the list of potential disasters to prepare for, when the virus hits, we'll be hot-footing it to Perry, GA to hang with these guys and gals.
Refreshed 2014 Camaro confirmed for New York debut
Thu, 07 Mar 2013We've already seen leaked specs and potential spy shots, but the refreshed 2014 Chevrolet Camaro will make its official debut at the New York Auto Show in a few weeks.
Besides a tweaked exterior and the possibility of a high-output LS7 under the hood, we really don't know much else about the 2014 Camaro, but here's hoping for an improved interior, too.
In addition to the refreshed Camaro, Chevrolet will also be showing off the recently introduced Chevrolet SS, making its debut on the auto show circuit, and we'll also get our first look at the C7 Corvette coupe and convertible side-by-side.
Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner
Sat, 24 Aug 2013For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
