This 1970 Chrysler Newport Custom Coupe is an exceptionally clean, low mileage, highly optioned, original condition vehicle. It rides smoothly, steers tight and straight down the road and brakes confidently with power front disc brakes. The original 383 V8 runs wonderfully and burns no oil and the 727 TorqueFlite Transmission shifts smoothly and crisply. The seats are very comfortable and are like new, with the original herringbone teal cloth interior material and supportive foam padding. The instrument panel, steering wheel and dash pad are in exceptional condition and show no cracks or significant wear. The carpets are original and the factory floor mats are included with the car.
The door panels are good except the driver door panel is starting to show minor sun damage near the top of the door. The headliner is also in decent shape, however there is a minor split located above the drivers left shoulder. The chrome is presentable and the paint is shiny, however it would need a repaint to be show quality. There is no need for any significant body work since this car is very straight with tight panel gaps. The biggest flaw is a minor blemish just behind the driver door near the character line. There is no rust on this car as it is a California vehicle. The trunk floor is solid although it shows some very slight surface rust as shown in the photos. Virtually everything works in this vehicle - the power windows work great (although the rears are slow and need lubrication), the A/C blows ice cold and the AM/FM search-tune radio works as well. All lights, interior (dome, map light, under hood and trunk) work as they should. Recent work includes: the transmission selector shaft seal and pan gasket were replaced and the bands adjusted, the suspension was rebuilt around 80K miles and a very high efficiency radiator core was replaced along with other more minor maintenance items. A new fuel pump and fuel filter were also recently installed and the rear drum brakes were completely rebuilt with new shoes, cylinders and springs, new shocks in the rear were added as well. There are no leaks from the drive-line. An aftermarket temperature gauge was added to supplement the cold/hot warning lights that still work as well. The engine is the original 383-2 barrel V-8 and it is very smooth and quiet, and the exhaust system is in good shape and even the rear resonator is in place and adds to the overall silence of this vehicle. The tires are General Touring A/S in size 235-70-R15 and are like new riding on stock 7" rims. The rear end is an open 8 3/4 with 2.76 gears. The original jack, tire iron and a full size spare are all in place as well. The large Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth fuselage C-bodies built from 1969-1973 are becoming very rare as most were driven into the ground or had their big block engines and drive-lines removed. From a driving perspective this one is exceptional. I've completed numerous 1,000 mile round trip drives from the Bay Area to L.A. in this car with the A/C on and never once has it missed a beat (most recent was last month) and it's an absolute joy to drive. It's quiet, does not overheat and can truly be used as a daily driver as I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere at a moments notice. This is a car that I hate to part with as the vinyl top delete cars are exceptionally rare and it gets attention everywhere it's taken. This is truly a turn-key car that needs nothing but a new driver. My only hope is that it goes to a good home. Chrysler shows creative side with employee art exhibit
Wed, 27 Nov 2013The United Auto Workers and Chrysler recently sponsored 92 works of art created by 50 of the automaker's unionized and salaried employees for the 2013-14 Artists at Work Exhibition, the ninth such show, which recognizes the creative process required to make art and manufacture vehicles. Chrysler says the event is "the country's only juried art show sponsored by a major corporation and a labor union." Unfortunately, the exhibit is not open to the public, but we have images to share of the winning pieces as well as other interesting exhibits in the gallery above.
"Art and manufacturing have more in common than you might think," says Keith Mickens, Chrysler-UAW National Training Center co-director from the UAW. "The creative process involved in producing a memorable image on a canvas can be used to help build quality vehicles on an assembly line."
A diverse range of art forms are showcased, from metal sculptures to ceramics to photography to paintings and more. Four Detroit-area professional artists narrowed down over 600 submissions to the 92 works of art that were shown at the exhibit, then awarded "Best of Show" prizes to three employees for their work (the first three images in our gallery) and selected 11 employees for honorable mentions. The overall winner is the sculpture above by Joseph Aiuto, titled "Childhood Anxiety."

The 2015 200 is the automotive equivalent of an ugly duckling turning into a swan.
In 2004, Chrysler's fullsize offerings were the lamentable Concorde and 300M - a pair of bloated, plasticky barges that hadn't received significant attention since before the dawn of the new millennium. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Chrysler unveiled its new 300, which rode on the bones of a Mercedes-Benz E-Class and had the look of a Rolls-Royce with a thug-life upbringing. It was cool.

If you're like me, that's the question you were asking after seeing commercials that advertised a limited-edition model of the Chrysler 300 with this mystery man's name attached. If you're not like me and consider yourself a fashionista even in the slightest, then you probably already know that John Varvatos is a successful menswear designer who cut his teeth in the fashion houses of Ralph Lauren's Polo and Calvin Klein. He's also a native of Detroit, which makes the joining of his brand and that of Chrysler's more intelligible, what with the Auburn Hills-based automaker still eking efficacy from its nearly three-year-old "Imported from Detroit" tagline.
Whenever one of these co-branded vehicles crosses my path, I try to judge them according to some simple questions. The first is, does the co-branding make sense for the target audience? And the second is, do the changes improve or diminish the experience of the standard vehicle? With this partnership, both brands are clearly aiming at the same target, or perhaps Chrysler hopes its aim will improve by partnering with the JV set, bringing it closer to that bullseye of style-conscious trendsetters.
The second question, meanwhile, can be answered with your eyes alone, as no mechanical changes are included among the Varvatos upgrades. Despite that, the 300C John Varvatos Edition is priced above - well above - all other 300 sedans save the 300 SRT8, suggesting that cool is not sold by the barrel (was it ever?) and Mr. Varvatos is a dealer in the stuff. Yet while I couldn't actually tell you if John Varvatos was a designer or a ditch digger before Chrysler introduced us, I do like his style, and the man knows how to dress a car.
