For sale, I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 3/4-ton pickup, with a 12 Valve Cummins Turbo Diesel engine backed by the legendary NV4500 5-speed manual transmission and NP-241DLD transfer case. This truck is a 100% honest workhorse. I know the body may need a little TLC, but trust me, I've seen much worse when it comes to these trucks that are actually used as trucks. With that being said, I'll go through the list of things that I can think of off the top of my head that have been done to the truck since I've owned it. I'll start with the obvious place that most potential owners will want to know about, the engine. It remains largely untouched for the most part. Since I've owned the truck, the oil has been changed every 5,000 miles with a genuine Cummins/Mopar filter and Mobil1 Devlac 1300 Super 15w-40. There is no fuel in the oil which is a great sign on an engine of this age with 250,000 miles on it. The truck retains the stock injectors, turbo and all other components of fuel delivery. The only thing done to the motor itself is the killer dowel pin, which drops into the gear case and causes a complete mess, has been tabbed. The timing has also been advanced 6* over stock for a little better throttle response and fuel economy and the injection pump has been tuned to make more horsepower will still being able to give the driver about 25 MPG on the highway. I just had the valves adjusted by the local Dodge dealer and they were barely out of adjustment, which is a really good sign. This is most definitely a stout truck. It will tow anything you can throw at it, and still perform like a new truck. These 12 valve  motors are held in high regard in the diesel community because they're mostly mechanical and extremely reliable. They also make cheap horsepower and still make great fuel mileage. The transmission in this truck shifts like a brand new one in all honesty. It it very tight, there is no grinding in any gear and there is no slipping due to the fact that a new clutch was installed about 6,000 miles ago. I went back with a stock material clutch because the stock clutch held up to a lot of miles and I didn't see any need in spending too much on a pulling clutch. When the clutch was replaced, the flywheel was also turned down so there would be no chatter in engagement and the fluid was drained and replaced with Pennzoil Synchromesh.

Moving onto the suspension of the truck, I can tell you truthfully, it has been completely redone. From front to back this truck is basically brand new in the suspension aspect. All u-joints in the axles and front, middle and rear driveshafts have been replaced, along with the carrier bearing that ties the two-piece rear driveshaft together. All front end parts including upper and lower balljoints on both sides, sway bar end links on both sides, both sway bar bushing, track bar, stabilizer shock, and power steering pump  and steering shaft have all been replaced. Anything that could be replaced with MOOG parts were. No expense was spared on this rebuild. The only thing on the front end that wasn't replaced was the steering gearbox, which was adjusted by the local Dodge dealership and is now as tight as stock. Very tight steering, better than the steering on a 2002 2500 that a friend of mine has owned and babied since new. Both axle seals on the front and rear axles have been replaced and are leak free. Truck has brand new brake pads/shoes, calipers and drum hardware all the way around. Both front and rear differentials were drained and inspected with no issues, and refilled with Lucas 75w-90 gear oil. The truck has new Bilstien 5100 series shocks all the way around as well. All upgrades and replacements have been done within the last 10,000 miles and everything is holding up wonderfully. I do have receipts to show proof of purchase and mileage for all maintenance and upgrades.

The only performance modifications done to the truck are the injection pump mods and the addition of a stainless steel MBRP 5" Turbo-Back exhaust which exits in a black 6" MBRP dual wall exhaust tip and Autometer pyrometer (0-1600*) and boost (0-35 psi) gauges. The truck has never exceeded 900* in manifold temperature or 30 psi of boost. I don't hot rod the truck because I believe that the better you take care of your equipment, the longer it will serve you.

The interior of the truck is very clean, although it doesn't have any carpet. It has 98-02 cloth seats which are in great condition. The dash has begun it's traditional Dodge cracking, but can be replaced easily. It has manual locks and windows, which is better in my opinion because there is less to break. I've upgraded the radio to a Kenwood unit that has a USB port for charging your smart devices and playing music. Every option the truck has works flawlessly.

I'm sure there are things that I'm forgetting mechanically, but I think you probably get the idea that most every issue the truck has or could have had has been taken care of. The truck could use a take off bed or a patch panel. The bed is 100% rust free, but a pole was dropped onto it, so there is a large dent in the body line. The truck needs rockers and cab corners, they are fixed temporarily and you can hardly tell it has issues, but they will need replaced before long. The truck has typical Dodge fade on the hood and roof, but nowhere else. There are dents and dings all along the truck, but it really adds character to the truck I think. The truck honestly speaks for itself and has nothing to hide. It's a no nonsense truck and that's why I bought it. Right now it's just a truck that is taking up room and although I don't have to sell it, I would like to see it go to a good home where it will be used instead of just sitting. If you have any other questions about the truck, feel free to inbox me! Otherwise, happy bidding and good luck!

NHTSA investigating 110,000 Ram 2500s and 3500s, one death alleged

Fri, 23 May 2014

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation focusing on 110,000 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups from model years 2004 to 2006. One death has already been reported, according to NHTSA, due to a potential fault with the clutch interlocks on manual-transmission versions of the heavy duty pickup.
According to the report, these trucks can be started without depressing the clutch. There have been three reports so far, and as we mentioned above, one very sad incident seems to have resulted in the death of a child.
"One complaint involved an incident that occurred when a child was able to enter the vehicle and start the ignition without depressing the clutch. The vehicle then moved forward striking another child resulting in a fatality," NHTSA said in the investigation bulletin, which you can view below.

2015 Dodge Viper price drops $15k for 2015

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

We recently saw updated specs and new trims of the 2015 Viper, but it looks like the folks at Dodge were saving the biggest surprise for last. Prices on all levels of the American sports car are seeing an immediate, across-the-board price cut of $15,000; even 2014 models still remaining on dealer lots.
The new MSRP for the 2015 Viper in its base SRT trim now starts at $84,995, and when the TA and GTS come to the lineup later next year, they start at $100,995 and $107,995, respectively. The move seems like a swing for the fences that might help to quell slow sales.
Obviously, current Viper owners might be somewhat peeved that their investment was just re-priced by the company. However, to assuage some of their concerns, Dodge is giving all fifth-gen owners a certificate worth $15,000 towards the purchase of a new one, which comes in addition to the price reduction.

Mopar maneuvers into SEMA with a multitude of modified models

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

As the aftermarket and performance arm of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Mopar has a duty to extract everything from the company's models that it can, and there's no better place to show all of its work off than the annual SEMA Show.
Dodge really gets in on the act this year with several customs to show off different parts of the brand's performance heritage. Perhaps the most interesting among them is the track-prepped Viper ACR Concept (pictured above). It wears a custom body kit to produce even more downforce, thanks in no small part to a monstrous wing at the back. To shed weight, most of the interior is stripped out, as well. Next up, the Challenger T/A Concept takes inspiration from '70s Trans-Am racing in a livery of Sublime Green and matte black paint. The center scoop in the hood keeps the 6.4-liter V8 fed with cool air, and the special's 20-by-9.5-inch matte black wheels keep it planted in the corners.
Also getting the once-over from Mopar is the Charger R/T. It wears the division's body kit, and under the hood, a cold-air intake keeps the 5.7-liter V8 breathing. The suspension is retooled to hold the road better with a coil-over kit, upgraded sway bars and strut tower braces for the front and rear. The company is also showing off a snazzy blue Charger with a mean look. The final Dodge getting work from Mopar is the Dart R/T Concept with bright, O-So-Orange paint and a matte black hood with a scoop hooked directly to the air intake. The performance-oriented design is finished off with a coil-over suspension and big brake kit, as well.
