Original retail owner of this fun machine - purchased in January 1995 directly from Chrysler Corp - a Chrysler exec vehicle with 62,000 miles on it when I bought it for $13,500. Loaded with all available options and a custom nameplate on the rear (see photo). Immediately switched to synthetic blend oil in 1995 and maintained with a lot of money and love for 2 decades. No accidents or collisions with me, but I do have the Chrysler repair records from some front end body work in 1994. Car has its original wheels that now need rechroming and a little dent removal, but they work as is. Engine is running but needs a rebuild, has never been done. Just replaced the plugs and wire set. 5-speed transmission and clutch rebuilt/replaced at 214,000 and are working well. Tires new at 222,000. New radiator at 215,000. Brakes redone at 231,000, ECU replaced at 210,000. AC system extensively repaired recently but still leaks. Many other items replaced over 2 decades with repair records for everything in the last 5-10 years. Never added performance parts, never raced or crashed. Did get it up to 150 or so once in Montana (back in the 90's when they had no speed limit on some roads there). Switched from Durablend to synthetic at around 150,000. Car includes an extra rebuilt alternator and the two large original factory repair manuals specific for this vehicle. Has a built-in BEL/Escort laser jamming device front and rear. Can be used with any Escort system or alone. Has a large powered subwoofer installed in the rear which is removable with plugs and straps. IIHS says these are the safest cars of 2013
Wed, 02 Jan 2013The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed its annual list of Top Safety Picks, an award that highlights automobiles it says offer "superior crash protection." A new and still more significant award, the Top Safety Pick+ honor, is given to those vehicles that earn good ratings for occupant protection in four out of five areas of measure. And while some 117 vehicles were given the TSP seal of approval for 2013, just 13 passed muster for TSP+.
To be fair, IIHS only evaluated 29 vehicles with its new testing procedures for TSP+ (we'd expect that the number of qualified cars will rise substantially for 2014). Luxury and Near Luxury midsize cars were the first groups evaluated, followed by midsizers in the Moderately Priced Cars category - unsurprisingly, it's only midsize cars that you'll find among the class this year.
Only two luxury sedans made the list of 13 for 2013: the Acura TL and Volvo S60. The other 11 cars on the list included entries from domestic, Japanese and German car makers: Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord (sedan and coupe), Kia Optima (but not its close kin, the Hyundai Sonata, strangely), Nissan Altima, Subaru Legacy and Outback, Suzuki Kizashi and the Volkswagen Passat all made the grade.
Ron Burgundy returns for four more Dodge Durango ads
Mon, 04 Nov 2013Dodge has released several more of its Anchorman 2-themed commercials, starring Will Ferrell as inept newsreader Ron Burgundy. The four spots, one of which is a sequel to a previous commercial, follow roughly the same pattern as previous ads, with Ferrell's Burgundy misunderstanding or generally making a fool of himself. For some of the ads, though, Burgundy is selling more than just Durangos - the red-suited host of San Diego's most watched news broadcast shilling the entire Dodge lineup.
We've included all four ads down below, and you can also hope over to our original posts to see some of the older commercials. Oh, and if you're getting tired of these - we aren't, aside from the Do-dge spot - just remember that Ferrell reportedly filmed around 70 ads for Dodge.
2013 Dodge Charger AWD Sport
Tue, 29 Jan 2013We won't beat around the bush: The all-wheel-drive Dodge Charger is not a brand new car. This generation launched in 2011, AWD models and all. But for 2013, Chrysler has added an optional sport package to the AWD model, available with both the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 or the sweet, sweet 5.7-liter Hemi V8. The upgrades for this new sport pack are mainly cosmetic; a gloss black grille, new 19-inch alloy wheels and body-colored rear spoiler make up the list of exterior changes. Inside, there are new sport seats and paddle shifters, and the eight-speed automatic transmission has been reflashed for better performance.
But because vehicles like the Dodge Charger mainly stick out in our minds as being rear-drive bruisers, Chrysler wanted to give us the opportunity to test out the LX platform's foul-weather prowess. And perhaps no place more appropriate to test such a system was way up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the dead of winter.
