1996 VIPER GTS
I ACQUIRED THIS VIPER ABOUT A YEAR AGO FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THIS CAR WAS PART OF A MULTI CAR DEAL THAT INVOLVED
THREE PEOPLE.. IN THE 19 YEARS OF HIS OWNERSHIP THIS CAR WAS METICUOSLY MAINTAINED BY HIM AND WHEN NEEDED BY A
VIPER TECH. THERE HAS BEEN A FEW TASTEFUL MODIFICATIONS WHICH INCLUDE HEAVY DUTY REAR HALF SHAFTS, A REAR
DIFERENTIAL SOMEWHERE IN THE 355 RANGE AND A VERY AGGRESSIVE SOUNDING EXHAUST SYSTEM. THIS EXHAUST SYSTEM STILL
RETAINS THE O2 SENSORS AND I HAD NO ISSUES PASSING A MISSOURI EMMISIONS TEST. OTHER THEN THESE FEW CHANGES THIS
VIPER REMAINS IN IT'S STOCK FORM.
MECHANICALLY THIS VIPER IS VERY TIGHT WITH NO KNOWN ISSUES OR PROBLEMS. WITH THE LOWER REAR END AND FREE FLOW
EXHAUST THIS CAR PERFORMS NOTICELY BETTER THEN STOCK BUT NOT SO RADICAL THAT IT CAN'T BE STREET DRIVEN AND ENJOYED.
IT FEELS SOLID AND TIGHT TO THE ROAD AS YOU WOULD EXPECT IN A 21,500 MILE CAR. ALL MECHANICAL SYSTEMS ARE
FUNCTIONING AS THEY SHOULD.
THE EXTERIOR PAINT IS NEAR FLAWLESS AND THERE ARE VERY FEW SCRATHES OR CHIPS. THE STOCK WHEELS SEEM TO HAVE NEVER
BEEN CURBED AND HAVE VERY FEW IMPERFECTIONS. THE UNDERNEATH IS STILL VERY CLEAN AND HAS A VERY ORIGINAL APPEARANCE.
THE INTERIOR IS AGAIN IN IT'S STOCK APPEARANCE AND IS VERY NICE AND CLEAN. THE DRVER'S SEAT BOLSTER IS NOT WORN AS
SO MANY OF THESE CARS ARE. ALL GAUGES ANJD ACCESSORIES WORK AS THEY SHOULD WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS.
AS WE ALL KNOW THESE FIRST YEAR VIPER COUPES WILL ALWAYS MAINTAIN A CERTAIN VALUE AND COLLECTIBILITY. WITH THE END
OF VIPER PRODUCTION ON THE HORIZON I WOULD EXPECT THAT THESE 1996 COUPES MAY INCREASE IN VALUE AND WILL MAKE A
GREAT INVESTMENT. AS CLEAN AS THIS ONE IS AND HOW WELL IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED I STRONGLY RECOMEND YOU SEE THIS ONE
IF THIS IS THE KIND OF VIPER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. THAT BEING SAID THIS CAR IS 20 YEARS OLD AND EVEN THOUGH IT IS
EXTREMELY NICE NOTHING IS PERFECT AND THERE ARE A FEW MINOR IMPERFECTIONS. THIS VIPER IS BEING SOLD WHERE IS AS IS
AND NO WARRANTIES HAVE BEEN WRITTEN EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.

How to turn a Dodge airport tug into a trail slayer

Sun, 16 Nov 2014

Sometimes, having a ton of fun requires takes a ton of work. Just nine days before the so-called Ultimate Adventure 2014, the folks behind 4-Wheel & Off-Road had 40 tasks to complete in order to turn the ratty truck pictured above into a machine that could excel on treacherous off-road trails while still being able to handle highway jaunts. Much of process behind the build was chronicled on the latest episode of Dirt Every Day.
The team's vehicle started life as a 1990 Dodge tug truck that spent part of its life hauling around airplanes. The builders hung on to the Cummins six-cylinder diesel, but they tossed out practically everything else for the project, with some seriously heavy-duty replacement parts for the transmission, transfer case, axles and a whole lot more. The process was certainly a ton of work, but the end result looks like a fantastic crawler.
Sure, it might have been easier to bring a truck that was already prepared, but where would the fun in that have been? Stay tuned until the end of the video for a few glimpses of the completed Dodge and peek at some of the punishment it goes through.

I sold my Viper, but the memories I'll keep

Thu, 30 May 2013

The following is written by auto industry veteran Tow Kowaleski. The words are his own, but the memories now belong to everyone thanks to his willingness to share. If you're an industry veteran with a story to share, contact us at tipsATautoblogDOTcom.
It became the flame that started the fire of belief in the next life of Chrysler.
I just sold a car. Nothing new. Millions do it every day. But my car was a 1995 Dodge Viper, so maybe it was a bit more unique since just 12,000 were built. And like others selling a car that's been a part of the family for close to 20 years, this was a confluence of emotions for me. I was sad to see it go, but happy to have the cash and one less big, shiny, under-utilized object in my life.

Mopar '13 Dart will roll into Chicago next week

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

We think this officially counts as a tradition. Every year going back to 2010, Mopar has rolled out a limited edition version of a popular product from the Chrysler Group portfolio. First it was the Mopar '10 Challenger, then the Mopar '11 Charger, then last year's Mopar '12 300, and this year it will be the Mopar '13 Dart, which will make its official world debut next week at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show.
Limited in number to just 500 units, the Mopar '13 Dart is no mere appearance package, though the demeanor of the Dart will be murdered out with a gloss black finish, gloss black 18-inch wheels, a set of Mopar blue stripes and a mean-looking Mopar ground effects kit. Likewise, the interior is touched up with leather seats (a blue one for the driver and black hides for the passengers), gloss black and black chrome trim, blue accent stitching, a sport pedal kit and other Mopar interior accessories.
Turning our attention back to the mechanical bits, the Mopar '13 Dart comes with the car's most powerful engine, a turbocharged 1.4-liter MultiAir four (shared with Fiat 500 Abarth) that's paired with a manual transmission. Those big, black wheels get wrapped in low profile 225/40R18 performance tires, and keeping everything in check is an upgraded brake kit with slotted rotors. The steering has also been calibrated for performance, the suspension lowered seven millimeters, and the exhaust tuned for better engine breathing.
