1977 Ferrari 308 Gtb Koenig Special Wide Body on 2040-cars

Lake Bluff, Illinois, United States

Although this 308 has a lot of character. driving it is a bit of an issue. I am 6'4" so I have been sticking to my larger cas as daily drivers during the summer. I would much rather see someone else enjoy this Ferrari. It beats collecting dust in the garage. There are some minor chips in the paint. but nothing that would discourage anyone from purchasing it. The car was repainted when the Koenig widebody was installed. I recently had the car tuned up and changed the water pump and fuel pump. As you can see in the photos. there are 2 sets of wheels.  I have a friend in CA that will custom make any type of wheel for this 308 GTB Koenig.  This is a perfect opportunity to own an original 1977 Koenig. The rest of my collection is located North of Chicago. where I am from.  Feel free to message me to set up a time to take a look at this vehicle in person. I recently spent 6,000 on maintenance work. I have more pictures here. https://plus.google.com/photos/103624650940693829075/albums/5802609249587660081

I did a little research and found out this cars was delivered to France. You can see some type of badge in the pictures that identifies this as a French import. I also researched Willy Koenig

. The company was based in Munich. in the south of Germany. The story starts when Willy Konig (or Koenig whatever you want) bought himself the first Ferrari 365 BB in Germany. back in 1974. Willy Konig was a car racer and a publisher at the time. Because he wasn't pleased with the performance of his new Ferrari he had it modified by engine-specialists and coachbuilding companies to suit his demands of creating the ultimate racing car for the streets. Soon other people got interested in Konig's modified 365 BB the hobby was turned into a professional business: Koenig-Specials was born in 1977.

This is a 1977 car. This may be one of his first Koenig modified cars. It is definitely the first year he produced them.

Koenig-Specials outsourced it's modifications to companies and specialists with experience in the business. The engine tuning was often done by Franz Albert and many of the widebody designs were done by Vittorio Strosek. who later started his own Porsche tuning-company.

The car needs new tires and wheels. The wheels right now are not sized correctly. It definately drives but will need these new tires to reach its full potential. The interior looks great. I do not have the stereo hooked up. The drivers window rolls up and down very slow. The passengers window is hit or miss. The drivers door handle is loose. There are a few chips and scrapes but not offensive. The left front tire rubbed up against the wheel well and rubbed off some paint.

I reserve the right to end this auction. If you don't have the money to purchase this car, enjoy the pictures but don't bid on it. This is a unique great car.

Watch this Ferrari 288 GTO get a top-flight detailing job

Wed, 02 Jan 2013

Detailing was once the last thing we had any interest in doing, and if such a thing were possible we had even less interest in watching someone else detail some other car. We don't feel that way anymore, fascinated by the minutiae uncovered in while watching Todd Cooperider and Polished Bliss detail some examples of Prancing Horses.
Next up on the detailing honor roll is Larry Kosilla of Ammo NYC. Company founder Kosilla said he has wanted to be the best detailer on Earth ever since he was a kid, and his company makes products to serve detailers with that kind of passion. Now, we can watch him put his knowledge and elbow grease to work on a Ferrari 288 GTO.
The biggest issue with the eighties wondercoupe is that it is made of three different materials, each of which will cause the same coat of paint to react differently to the same products according to Kosilla. There's also the fact that he's working in what appears to be a rather poorly lit garage, but by the time he gets to the end of the two-day job it's clear he knows exactly what he's doing. Detailing school begins in the video just below.

Ferrari developing V-twin motorcycle engine?

Sat, 04 Oct 2014

When we read reports that Ferrari had applied for a patent on a V-twin engine design, our first thought was to check the date: this says the first of October, right... not April? And so here we are, entertaining the notion that Ferrari could be developing a motorcycle engine.
The report comes from Autocar, which claims to have dug up the application to patent the design for an "internal combustion engine having two cylinders, which are arranged in a 'V' configuration." In other words, a motorcycle engine. The application reportedly goes on to describe a balancing shafts to reduce vibration. Our own research did not lead us to find the application in question, so we'll have to take it with a grain of salt for the moment. But supposing it's all on the up and up, and that Ferrari was actually developing a motorcycle engine. Would that be so out of the ordinary?
Well, yes and no. Parent company Fiat, which is taking increased direct control of Ferrari, is undoubtedly looking at rival Volkswagen and its recent acquisition of Ducati (putting it in close proximity to Lamborghini) and would be keen to get in on that action. However tenuous the relationship, Lotus has also recently authorized a motorcycle bearing its name. And of course automakers like BMW and Honda, with which Ferrari has competed on and off the race track, also make motorcycles.

LaFerrari Spider among Maranello's future product plans

Thu, 19 Jun 2014

Niche though its products may be, Ferrari typically rolls out a new model every year. 2009, for example, saw the introduction of the California. In 2010 came the 458 Italia, followed by the 458 Spider in 2011. In 2012 we greeted the FF, and in 2013 both the F12 Berlinetta and 458 Speciale. This year the hyper-exotic LaFerrari was joined by the California T, and you can bet that Maranello will keep up that pace by rolling out new versions of and replacements for each of these models in succession.
Among the plans which Car and Driver reports Ferrari has afoot will be an open-top LaFerrari Spider - something which the Prancing Horse marque hasn't done at the top of its range since the F50, which came exclusively with a removable hardtop. The 6.3-liter hybrid V12 will likely carry over unchanged, as will most of the other parameters, but for the joy of experiencing 1,000 horsepower with the wind in your hair - and the exclusivity of being one of the just 50 owners - we're told to expect a price tag roughly double that of the existing $1.35 million coupe.
Of course, Ferrari has more plans than simply chopping the roof off its hybrid hypercar. In Geneva next March, the House that Enzo Built is tipped to introduce a Modificato version of the 458 with a twin-turbo V8 producing around 670 horsepower - over one hundred horses more than in the new California T. A refresh for the all-wheel-drive FF is also said to be underway for 2016, when it will receive a less awkward roofline and the possible addition of a V8 base version alongside the V12 that will remain naturally aspirated. As it will in the updated F12 due the following year.
