I am selling a very rare and sought after, 2005 Ferrari F430 Coupe (Berlinetta) with a gated, manual 6-speed transmission. The car is stunning and you would be hard-pressed to find a nicer car with lower miles combined with these options. With the introduction of the 458 and now 488, Ferrari shows no sign of reviving the manual gated transmission – so this is the last mid-engine model to have this transmission option. If paddles don’t do it for you – don’t let this car pass you by. Production numbers are hard to pin down for the F430, for some reason, but several threads here put the gated transmission coupe in the hundreds (not thousands) in the US. Just look at other Ferrari models produced during the same years. The trend was that buyers and dealers were spec’ing cars primarily with the F1 setup. So the good news with that is that now, (and in the future) we are seeing demand, and values increasing for all gated cars. If you are looking at this ad, you already know this. With that out of the way, let’s talk about this car. Ordered in Rosso Corsa with Cuoio interior, this color combination takes the normal “red and tan” a step further, away from beige in a richer direction. If you are looking for a more unique car, (that you won’t see at every Ferrari gathering), this starts us off on the right foot. Adding great options (shown in alphabetical order), the original buyer included: BLUE - Bluetooth Device for Mobilephone CCMD – Carbon Ceramic Brakes CDCH – 6 CD Changer CHUS – Battery Charger USA + Pre-wiring DAY1 – Daytona Style Seats in matching Cuoio INST – Instrument Panel with Yellow Center Tachometer LOGO – ‘Scuderia Ferrari’ Shields RIM3 – Challenge Type Wheel Rims RUF1 – Leather Headliner in matching Cuoio SHF2 – Leather Rear Shelf / Door Mould in matching Cuoio STC2 – Special Stitching in Contrasting special tan color STW1 – Coloured Steering Wheel in matching Cuoio TRIM – Material for Dashboard iin full carbon fiber TYPP – Pirelli Tyres WHE2 – Space Saver Wheel Kit with Jack The car was delivered June 29, 2005 to the original owner in Hinsdale, Illinois at Continental Autosports. The F430’s are low-maintenance cars, and this one is no exception. The car has only needed annual services for fluids, brakes and inspections along with recall campaigns. The car was serviced at authorized factory dealers in the Chicago, Las Vegas and New York City areas. The F430 had only 6,736 miles at time of the photo shoot last week. It will likely have a few more miles added because of service updates at the dealer prior to sale. As you can see from the photos, the F430 is in wonderful condition. Each owner and I have made sure it was well taken care of. The original paint is in great shape with no real noticeable marks or issues. The leather interior is very soft and the seat bolsters are in excellent condition, with nothing more than very light signs of use on the driver’s side. The original delivery plastic is still on the passenger footwell. Most of the interior plastics were ordered as carbon fiber from the factory, so there are no signs or issues with sticky interior pieces that many F355, 360, and other F430’s have experienced. The radio works fine (I don’t really use it) and couples with the 6-cd changer (that I’m guessing you won’t be using) in the front trunk area. You can also use the bluetooth to link your phone or tablet although I have not done that. The windows have a light tint and all doors and lids open and align properly. Basically, the car is just what you would expect with low-miles and caring owners. The car is properly stiff on the road and the gated, 6-speed manual gearbox is very smooth. The clutch is easy to use and solidly biting. Brakes, as you would expect are amazing. The car revs and accelerates very, very quickly. You will be having fun with both hands and feet with this car. Just remember to pay attention to the smaller gauge next to the yellow tach – the speedometer. It is a little too easy to approach high speeds so quickly and smoothly. The steering wheel is also a very nice touch on this car. It has a very nice feel and diameter. The Cuoio color is well done with the contrasting thread and metal. Here are some recent service items. In December 2012, the Black brake calipers were changed to Red using an Authorized Ferrari Restoration shop. The job was first rate. They also refinished the wheels at that time, completed an alignment, and mounted new tires - 3,000 miles ago. In April 2013, a new, full frontal clear-bra was installed on the full-front bumper, hood, fenders and A-frame up to the top of the windshield. In August of 2013, a factory dealer replaced both solenoids on the driver’s side of the car. In December of 2013, the lower front bumper was re-sprayed and the clear-bra re-applied to eliminate any marks. The front wheels have both been checked and made perfect over the life of the car. I’m sure you know that the F430 front rims have a reputation for pot-hole softness. They are both good to go. The car has the original clutch and original headers / manifolds. No mechanical issues are present with the car. The car also has the factory OEM exhaust. The car comes with the books and service records, with scanned copies and photographs on a USB drive. Also included is a full set of OEM covers - fitted car cover, seat covers, steering wheel cover, and spare tire cover in the red zipped bag. The front compartment has the jack and battery charger in their matching Cuoio cases. The car has one original key included. A second key can be obtained by the buyer at an authorized dealer or I can assist in getting a copy made at time of purchase from Ferrari of Central New Jersey so there is a spare. There are only a few detractions for the near-perfect car. It is missing the window sticker, which I am sure you can have re-created. The optional spare tire in the front trunk is secured with a fragile leather strap. You can imagine the tire and leather straps going through a bit of torque while the car is being pushed through tight curves or under heavy-braking. The current strap in the trunk has torn and needs to be replaced. I would probably recommend you remove and store the tire and supporting gear in your garage full-time as a unique and rare option until you need it for a concours. You simply won’t use it and it just adds weight. I’d find a set of matching Schedoni luggage to fit in its place for a great roadtrip. The clear-bra has one or two small rub marks near application edges. They are hard to see, but noticeable if you get close and are looking for them. The driver’s-side, sill area also has a scuff-mark from a shoe exiting the car. I haven’t really worried about it but am sure it would be an easy fix with the right cleaner or detailer. I have the clear New Jersey title in hand. It has never been involved in any accident or had any damage of any kind. I am happy to email copies of the current and clear CARFAX and Autocheck reports along with VIN / chassis numbers and maintenance records to serious buyers. I welcome PPI’s at buyer’s expense at the experts at Ferrari of Central New Jersey. You will find the car just as described. I’m not out to waste your time or mine.

Petrolicious highlights Andy Greene's love of Ferrari in "The Caretaker"

Wed, 09 Jan 2013

The next stop on the Petrolicious tour of the nation's car stories is Savannah, Georgia. The crew sat down with restorer Andy Greene of Andy Greene's Sports and Vintage Race Cars, and he waxed poetic about his love of Ferraris. See, the shop will work on vintage models and classic road racing cars from other brands, but when it comes to Ferrari, any model from any year can find a place in Greene's garage.
And we'll admit that the yellow Ferrari 250 SWB helps make Greene's case. You can see for yourself what he's talking about in the video below.

'Ferrari' is an oft-banned search term in China, but why?

Sat, 22 Feb 2014

The Internet has been a boon for car enthusiasts; after all, information about any car ever made is available at a few taps of the keyboard, whenever you'd like. Unfortunately, some Chinese motor heads are not quite as lucky because state censors have been intermittently banning searches for Ferrari on the country's micro-blogging sites, according to Time.
The problem has nothing to do with Maranello's supercars; it's what they represent. The Prancing Horse has become the symbol for so-called "princelings," wealthy young Chinese who use their parents' privileges in the Communist elite to afford luxuries.
The first bout of censorship came in 2011 when the son of then-high-ranking politician Bo Xilai was spotted cruising around Beijing in a red Ferrari, a vehicle much more expensive than he should have been able to afford. It started trending on Chinese social media, and censors began blocking searches for Ferrari in the car's red color. The Italian brand was censored again briefly in 2012 when a Chinese investor crashed his Prancing Horse into two other cars in Singapore.

$11.55 million 1964 Ferrari 250 LM highlights RM Auctions' first night in Monterey

Sat, 16 Aug 2014

Some of the biggest auto auctions of the year are held during the weekend of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Millionaires gather in hopes of outbidding their contemporaries for incredibly rare cars. As Bonhams' record sale on Thursday of a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO for $38 million showed, these days the world's most expensive vehicles are found at auctions, often with a prancing horse on the nose.
RM Auctions' Friday sale reinforced this even more when a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM topped the evening by bringing in $11.55 million, after the 10 percent commission. It wasn't the only million-dollar vehicle of the event, though. A 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster Prototype garnered $6.93 million, and a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 brought $1.705 million. Even a classic 1948 Tucker 48 had a final price of $1.57 million.
Surprisingly, some rather new cars actually brought in quite big money, too. A 2013 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Vitesse Le Ciel Californien sold for $2.42 million, and a 2006 Ford GT with just 13 miles sold for $407,000.
