Leather seats. Sunroof. Body in good condition. Interior in fair condition. Paint is faded by weather in some places but overall is good. This vehicle has normal dings and scratches like any car its age. The interior has a few minor cracks and blemishes. The driver's side rear door will not open at all. At higher speeds the front end shakes a little. Probably needs alignment work. Radio antenna is broken, so radio will only pick up one station, but does work. Engine shows normal wear and tear typical of a vehicle this age, but still runs strong. I've had this Explorer for 3 years and have had ZERO mechanical issues with it. Very dependable. This would make a great student or work car. This car is being sold "as is". I'm trying to list all the flaws here. It is certainly not a "new" vehicle, but it has been a good one."

Smoke-free car.  This car was used by my wife to go back and forth to work.  It was very carefully maintained.  In 3 years we had NO mechanical issues.  Interior in reasonably good condition.  Large cargo area in the rear.  Nice sunroof.

Various flaws:  Rear driver door will not open at all.  Passenger front window will not roll down at all.  Will need tires within 5000 miles or so.  Radio antenna broken, but sound system does work.  Paint has weather wear in places, but mostly good.  Cruise controls cracked (on steering wheel), but still work.  Electric door locks sometimes stick, but always open after a couple of clicks on the remote.  Engine has 180000 miles on it, but still dependable.  Front end shakes a little at higher speeds (over 60).  Never had it checked out.  It was like that when I bought it and have had no problems in spite of it.  Normal dings and scratches for a car this age and mileage.  Driver seat has some cracks in the seat, but not bad.

NADA values at $2500.  Kelly Blue Book at $2504 for "fair" condition.  It's at least a fair condition.

The 11 most expensive American cars ever

Tue, 12 Aug 2014

Here's a Pro Tip for all you would-be classic car investors out there: buy Ferraris. With the Pebble Beach festivities kicking off this week, including any number high end car auctions, we thought it would be entertaining to compile a list of some to the most expensive cars ever sold with the bang of a gavel. Trouble is, once you get past the splendor of everyone's favorite Italian sports car maker, that list is pretty boring.
Ferrari dominates the all-time auction sales list; seven of the top ten most expensive cars sold wear the Cavallino Rampante badge, as well as more than half of the top fifty. Sure, a nearly $30-million Mercedes-Benz W196 racecar might be the new top dog as of last year, but it's even possible that Ferrari could take that title back in Monterey this weekend. Long story short: we think a list of the most expensive American cars ever sold at auction is a lot more entertaining to read. Hell, our list has a friggin' Batmobile on it, how can it go wrong?
Follow on below for the top ten cars that are red, white, blue and a whole lot of green.

Watch Piquet and Mansell bend some sheetmetal in Ford Fusion GP

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

As we told you about before, there were four episodes planned for the Ford Fusion GP campaign in Brazil, and the whole series has now run its course. The Ford ads pit Brazilian Formula One driver Nelson Piquet against English F1 pilot Nigel Mansell driving the new Fusion, the two coming together again after their partnership at the Williams F1 team ended in a miserable state more than 20 years ago.
They're lined up for you below, in reverse chronological order. You should watch number three first, though, as it adds a bit more spice to the NASCAR action in the fourth.

Toyota tops Consumer Reports best, worst used car values

Tue, 18 Mar 2014

We often mock Toyota for building boring, soulless cars, but a new study by Consumer Reports suggests that regardless of whether that's true, the company has some of the best used cars on the market. In its report on used cars from 2004-2013, the Japanese automaker had 11 vehicles among its brands on the list - more than any other automaker.
CR breaks the list down by cost and vehicle size, and Toyota has at least one entry at every price point and in nearly every segment. To score a recommendation, a vehicle had to perform well in the magazine's initial tests and score above-average reliability results. It also tried to only suggest cars with electronic stability control. Of the 28 recommended vehicles, Honda/Acura had the second most mentions at six, and Ford, Hyundai and Subaru managed two each.
The Detroit brands also made it to the list, but not in a positive way. Consumer Reports compiled a list of 22 vehicles it wouldn't recommend because "they have multiple years of much-worse-than-average overall reliability." General Motors had the most unrecommended models on the list at six, but Chrysler and Ford weren't far behind, with five cars each from their brands not making the grade. The full list of recommendations is available on CR's website.
