Today I am selling a 1963 Ford Fairlane 500, with the original 221 V8 and 2 speed automatic transmisson. I am selling this for a freind that does not have an ebay account. The car had a restoration done in 1997, it needs TLC. The engine and transmission work good, the genarator is out for repair. the body is in good shape exept for a small dent in the lower right rear quarter panel, not to difficult for even a novice to fix. The paint does have some chipping and flaking but shines up pretty nice. There are a few small rust spots but none have spread. This car just needs someone to clean her up and give it new home it is a good canidate for an easy full restoration. The owner is retiring and moving out of state and just can not take everthing with him. The car is located in northeastern California near Reno Neveda. If any one wants more pictures or more information you can email me or call me at 530-253-2838 or cell 530-260-2836 ask for Brett, during the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. Pacific time. The owner informed me that the head liner, door panels, the wheels and hub caps are the the same ones it rolled off the showroom floor with. There is a complete set of four of those five spoke rims and tires included (see trunk picture). The only things that were replaced were the normal items oil, filter, belts, hoses and so on, all original parts. Numbers matching car from bumper to bumper. The air conditioning was an after market from J.C. Penny, installed just after purchase in 1963 all the parts are there, some need to be relaced on the car, but all are included. This is as low as the owner will go, If no buyer, he has decided to give it to a relative. as a gift. I would buy it for myself but I am retired and just cant afford another car on my income. At this price it is "AS IS WHERE IS!!", buyer will have to make all arrangements to pick up the car. The generator will still need repair and the fuel will need to be flushed out, the gas in the tank it is a year or more old I would not trust it, so it's able to driven home. The $ 500.00 deposit will be forefieted in 2 weeks if I am not contacted. If you come to pick up the car within one week the deposit is not needed and I will wave it, just bring cash and the car and the extra parts he has is yours.  I have included my cell phone number so I can be reached any where I am. The car is registered and you can use a car dolly to take it home.

Ford, Ram in heavy-duty towing spat

Mon, 28 Jul 2014

Every pickup truck commercial has the brand trying to convince us that its model is the biggest, brawniest vehicle on the block. But Ford and Ram appear ready to really throw down the gauntlet and scrap over the towing figures for their heavy-duty models, and it could potentially end up in court.
The issue revolves around what it means to be best in class. Ford claims that its 2015 F-450 (pictured above) has a max tow rating of 31,200 pounds, compared to 30,000 pounds for the Ram 3500 (right). However, both companies market these heavy haulers as having the top towing in their class. According to Automotive News, Ford is threatening legal action if Ram doesn't back down.
The situation isn't as simple as just comparing the numbers, though. First, the two companies calculate their towing capacities differently. Ram adheres to the SAE J2807 rating, while Ford uses its own internal system. Although, as the company introduces new models, they are certified using the SAE standard. "When an all-new F-Series Super Duty is introduced, it also will use SAE J2807," said Ford to Autoblog in an emailed statement.

Michigan museum offers Model T driving classes

Sun, 29 Dec 2013

Halfway between Detroit and Chicago, there is a car museum that gives visitors a unique level of interaction with antique cars. The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI has a driver's training class to teach people of any age to learn how to drive a Ford Model T.
From the crank starter to the column-mounted throttle control, this driving school teaches people all there is to know about driving and operating a Model T. Each class lasts about two and a half hours and is only open to 18 students. There are ten sessions planned for 2014 - twice a day on May 3, June 22, July 22, August 23 and September 14. The class costs $95 (or $85 for members), and it also includes a tour of the museum's automobile collection.
In addition to this driving school, the museum has plenty of exhibits on the property, and it's open all but three days per year (Easter, Christmas and New Year's Day) with free admission for school field trips and active military. Be sure to check out the Gilmore Car Museum's website or visit them on Facebook for more info.

Ford to cease Australian automaking operations after 90 years

Thu, 23 May 2013

Ford began manufacturing cars in Australia in 1925 with the Model T. In 2016, Ford will stop manufacturing cars Down Under, including the Falcon and the Territory SUV. Ford Australia CEO Bob Graziano has reportedly confirmed the closure of the company's Broadmeadows assembly plant and the Geelong engine plant, both in the state of Victoria. There will be 650 jobs lost at Broadmeadows, 510 sacrificed at Geelong. Of the roughly 3,000 workers the Blue Oval has in Australia, it's said it will try to retain about 1,000 of them at its R&D and product development facilities.
The writing hasn't just been on the wall, it's been a regular item in all the papers and on Ford's bottom line for years. As recently as 2003, Ford sold nearly 75,000 Falcons, but over the next four years, annual sales dropped by something like 10,000 units, and over the last two years, it has sold less than 20,000 per year. It isn't only Ford that has suffered - sales of the other large, locally produced sedan, the Holden Commodore, have also gone over the precipice, triggering the same kind of angst about Holden's continued existence. Ford is the smallest of Australia's local automakers, Holden and Toyota the others, and has posted losses of $AUD141 million last year ($136M US) and $AUD600 million ($580M US) in the past five years. Graziano said the cost of manufacturing is simply too expensive in the country, twice as high as Europe and three times as high as Asia, and there no way to make a business case for staying in the country.
In January 2012, Ford Australia announced it would stay in the country until at least 2016, but by July of the same year, most outside observers were quietly declaring that 2016 would be the last year of Ford Down Under, and even the speculation was making other observers nervous. Ford received money from the Victorian government last year to aid its refresh of the Falcon and Territory, which will continue on schedule for the 2014 model year. A front- and all-wheel-drive sedan on a global platform is predicted to replace the Falcon, with some other SUV expected to replace the Territory. The company says it still intends to expand its lineup in the country.
