1967 Fairlane 500 Ranchero on 2040-cars

Year:1967 Mileage:82804 Color: emblems

Here is a very nice Ranchero - the only year that it was produced on a Fairlane body style.

The Ford Ranchero was first introduced in 1957 whn the full size Ford was the only model offered.  In 1960 the Ranchero was produced on the Falcon body style and starting in 1968 it was on a Torino body style until it was discontinued in 1979.

This is equipped with the 289 2-V engine, Cruise-O-Matic transmission, power steering, power brakes and the optional style steel wheels. It has a Ford dealer-installed air conditioner but someone has previously removed the air conditioner compressor. Every indication is that the current odometer reading is actual mileage.

I purchased this about 3 years ago in North Carolina. The previous owner had started to restore it and then got interested in a different project and decided to sell it.

Last year I replaced the upholstery, headliner, carpet and door panels and arm rests with first quality replacement items from Dearborn Classics. I have also replaced the exterior emblems - the hood letters, the 289 emblems, the Ranchero 500 emblem and the three Ranchero Bull emblems. It has the original AM radio and works okay. The dash is original and is not cracked as is typically found in these cars - it apparently was kept out of the sun. The sunvisors are original and are not cracked - they have been redyed.

All of the exterior trim was removed and professionally straightened and polished by a shop in Winston-Salem, NC. The body had very little rust and still had the original paint. I had a local shop repair the minor rust and repaint the vehicle. The paint shop removed the bumpers, front fenders, the hood, the tailgate, the grille, the headlight buckets and the taillight assemblies before painting. This is not a trailer queen - it was painted with single stage paint in the original color. Body is nice and straight. The tailgate was disassembled while it was removed and coated inside with a rust preventative. The floorpans had some rust and replacement floorpans were purchased from Dearborn Classics and installed. Since the body had such small amounts of rust I am inclined to think that the carpet had been wet and the thick padding underneath the carpet would have held moisture for a long time and caused the rust in the floorpans. This vehicle has a spray on bed liner done by the previous owner. It has a new set of P215/70R14 whitewalls. When I purchased this it had an incorrect carburetor and I purchased the correct rebuilt carburetor for it.

I have posted a couple of photos of the vehicle as it was before the body and paint work I had done. There are a couple very minor leaks underneath the vehicle. I think it is from a seal on the transmission shift lever and a power steering hose.

I have a couple photos of underneath the vehicle. I have had the local repair shop check everything over and they have advised me that everything is in very good condition.

I have probably driven this less than 50 miles since I purchased it. I have been fixing up old cars since the late 1970's - starting with a 1953 Ford Victoria 2 Dr Hardtop (my son still has this car), a couple 1956 Thunderbirds, a 67 Mustang "High Country Special" Fastback, a 54 Mercury Glasstop, a 57 Continental Mark II, a 50 Chevy Deluxe 2 Dr, a 63 Comet Convertible, a 67 Fairlane Convertible, etc. I was a Ford dealer in upstate New York and had a lot of resources available. I retired a few years ago and purchased a 62 Mercury Meteor and then this Ranchero. I do not do restorations - I enjoy going to Hershey, Carlisle and now the Charlotte Auto Fair to find the things I need to make a vehicle driveable and enjoyable and that is what this is.

If you want a vehicle to take to the local cruise in or car show and drive occasionally you will enjoy this vehicle - and you won't find many other ones like this one there. I try to give an honest description and have been selling on Ebay since it's early days. Check my feedback and the items I have sold - everything from coins, currency, antique cars, motorhomes, coin operated antique machines, etc. Please let me know what additional information or photos you would like to have.

Shelby GT500 and Roush Stage 3 go head to head at the drag strip

Wed, 07 Aug 2013

The Ford Mustang is a brilliantly affordable source of horsepower, with a base 300-plus-horsepower version available for well under $30,000. Jumping up to about $35,000 will get you a solid 420 horsepower from a high-revving V8, while those with some extra disposable income can get a pair of 600-plus-horsepower monsters. Both the Roush Stage 3 with its Phase 3 package and Ford's factory Shelby GT500 even crest the 650-horsepower mark, with 675 and 662 ponies, respectively.
Naturally, someone needed to find out which of these hi-po Mustangs was the quickest. And while this video is quite obviously a dealership commercial, at least there's some solid drag racing between two of the most powerful performance machines available for under $100,000.
With two NHRA drag racers at the wheel, the Stage 3 and GT500 go head to head for three races. Scroll down below to see the results in the full video.

Ford's Mulally makes shortlist for Microsoft CEO

Fri, 08 Nov 2013

Ford CEO Alan Mulally has made the short list to take over tech giant Microsoft, lending further credence to rumors that the 68-year-old former Boeing exec would ditch Dearborn and move to Redmond.
The report comes from Reuters, which claims that alongside Mulally, former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop and three candidates from within Microsoft are on the short list to succeed Steve Ballmer at the company's helm, although previous reports claim the Ford exec is the number one candidate. Mulally is currently working without a contract, although Bill Ford seems to believe that he isn't likely to depart. Despite this belief, Ford was quoted just last month talking about the depth of talent on the Blue Oval's executive team.
"There is no change from what we announced last November. Alan remains fully focused on continuing to make progress on our One Ford plan. We do not engage in speculation," said Ford spokesman Jay Cooney.

Ford tells Congress it collects and protects some driver data

Fri, 14 Feb 2014

Last month Ford's Jim Farley made waves at the CES when it was reported he told show attendees, "We have GPS in your car, so we know what you're doing. By the way, we don't supply that data to anyone." Farley and Ford later partially retracted and clarified that statement.
Spurred by a desire for further transparency on data collection policies, Ford representatives answered questions from Congress, specifically Senator Al Franken (D-Minn.), about driver privacy.
The Detroit News reports that Ford told Congress it does collect some vehicle location data in an effort to "troubleshoot and improve our products" on behalf of the driver. Ford went on to say that it only collects limited data after receiving permission from owners.
