Flat Rock, Michigan, United States

1963 Ford Country Sedan 6 passenger station wagon. 289 3 speed manual with Borg Warner Overdrive. 3.89 9 inch Ford open rear end. Manual everything. Radio delete, clock delete. Recent brakes (still has the 1963 date coded drums), and valve job on the 289, Very clean and straight Montana body. Exterior trim very nice with some typical dents. Runs and drives like new. Overdrive works (drops the RPM  from 3100 to 2100 at 70MPH)  tracks and drives great. New Cooper tires and Magnum 500 wheels. All glass original except for windshield. Only rust perforation is on the left rear quarter panel most likely from the original single exhaust failing and allowing condensation to form. Rest of body including rockers, floor pan, spare tire well, bottom of doors, rear tailgate etc are rust free with no evidence of damage. Paint is original Champaign with Wimbledon White top. All paint is showing wear of a 50+ year old car including some panel repair/replacement many years ago. Has worn paint and surface rust as evidenced by the pictures. Interior is very original, door panels, headliner, seats, original floor mats are very nice. Load floor nice with minor surface rust, no holes. 289 runs like a watch, no oil smoke, recent dual exhaust with no leaks. Recent gas tank replacement with a 17 gallon aftermarket tank with aux fuel gauge, looks as good as factory. Just an incredibly original, great driving example of an unmolested Galaxie Wagon! Please ask questions and I will do my best to answer them. Located in Flat Rock, Mi 48134, 18 miles S of Detroit. 734-735-2086. Reserve is close to what I have into it, any less and I am keeping her as you just do not see too many wagons like this. Clear Michigan title in my name. If you are going to bid please be prepared to pay. Thanks for looking, Warren.

Had a few questions on my wagon and will answer them here. The tires are Cooper Mastercraft 215/70R/15 on a set of Wheel Vintiques 15x6 Magnum 500 wheels. Both wheels and tires are brand new. I do not have the original wheels. I do have the chrome reverse wheels the car came with and if you would like them, I will include them.

I installed a period correct reproduction Sun tach under the dash. The lighting on the tach matches the dash lights perfectly.

Everything works on the car, all lights (except dome), turn indicator cancels as it should, heater works great, all windows including the tailgate window crank operates as it should.

The column shifter is nice and precise as it should be on a low mileage car, pedals show little to no wear. Manual steering is precise and really pretty easy to steer. Steering wheel has no cracks and is actually blue under the champaign paint. This was common to paint a wheel if they ran out of a needed color. The non padded dash is all original and super nice.

Plastic dash bezels for the vent pull controls are broken and all the bezels are available from Dearborn Classics. Door panels, headliner and the seats are about as pristine as you will find on an original car and that is a plus as the parts are difficult to reproduce, if available at all.

The BW Overdrive works perfectly, no clutch shudder, trans is quiet thru the shifts, OD kicks in and drops out when it should. Carb has been professionally rebuilt with proper venturi size and tag for a 63 289 auto choke. Engine starts and runs very quietly. Manual brakes stop fine, self adjusters work, good high pedal. Parking brake operates as it should (a must on this car)

I tried to keep the restoration to a minimum, concentrating on the preservation. Great car to drive as is, no issue at all doing 70 on the highway with the OD. Fantastic base for a restoration or restomod project. Continue to ask questions. Thanks!

Ford ST Octane Academy [w/video]

Wed, 04 Jun 2014

The ST school is about more than just handbrake turns, hot laps, and sliding into parking spaces.
I felt like such a rock star. On my second pass around the UrbanCross course (read: fancy autocross) at the Ford ST Octane Academy, I absolutely nailed the exit, sliding the bright-yellow Focus ST sideways into a box the size of a parking space, all four wheels in line.

Ford reports 58% drop in Q2 profits on European losses

Wed, 25 Jul 2012

Ford Motor Company announced Wednesday that it has posted a $1 billion profit for the second quarter of 2012. That sounds like good news for the Blue Oval, until you take into account that Ford posted a $2.4 billion profit for Q2 a year ago. That is a substantial 58 percent loss.
Ford also posted $465 million in international losses, with $404 million of those losses coming directly from Europe. The automaker also increased its European loss projections to $1 billion for 2012, due in large part to the economic crisis overseas, which has resulted in increased unemployment and decreased consumer confidence.

Does the new 2015 Ford Mustang have a burnout control system?

Tue, 10 Dec 2013

Whether it's lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring or automatic emergency braking, most of the electronic systems we see emerging on new vehicles focus on safety. But there are some there just for enthusiasts. We're talking about systems like automatic throttle blipping for perfect downshifts, or launch control to get that textbook acceleration from a standstill. But the latest system could prove just the opposite of the latter.
Although it has given us most of the details, Ford is still keeping certain elements of its new Mustang secret. But emerging reports may have the skinny on one system which Ford is trying is darnedest to keep under its hat for the time being. That, according to unnamed sources cited by Motor Authority, is burnout control.
The system is reportedly designed to help novices execute the perfect smokey burnout - sort of like launch control, but specifically the opposite. The system could, according to elaborative speculation, lock the front brakes while spooling up the engine to optimal revolutions before dumping (or indicating the driver to do dump) the clutch. A cloud of tire smoke and a long pair of skid marks would then ensue.
