THE TRANS IS A (NEW, NEVER USED) GM 400 SETUP FOR PRO MOD RACING ($5000. PARTS ALONE). WITH A NEW VARIABLE SPEED TORQUE CONVERTER. THE EXHAUST IS 2.5 DIAMETER PRIMARIES INTO SIDE PIPES. I FOUND AN EXCELLENT EXHAUST BUILDER, AND HE DID A GREAT JOB. THE INTERIOR HAS HAND BUILT SEATS BY TOM WERNER OF BLOOMSDALE MISSOURI. THEY TURNED OUT GREAT AND ARE VERY COMFORTABLE. THE TRUCK NEEDS WIRING, PLUMBING. THE RADIATOR WAS MOUNTED ON THE UPPER REAR FRAME RAIL. BUT, LOOKED LIKE CRP..SO, I TOOK IT OFF. PLANS WERE TO RELOCATE BEHIND 3RD MEMBER AND RUN WATER LINES TO RUN INSIDE RIGHT FRAME RAIL. ELECTRIC RAD FAN. THE ORIGINAL 35 DODGE RADIATOR SHELL I HAVE WILL NEED TO BE CUT DOWN TO ALIGN WITH THE COWL. THAT IS WHERE I WAS GOING TO MOUNT THE TRANS COOLER AND HORN. THERE IS SOME WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. BUT, 4 YEARS AND $30G+. HAS COMPLETED THE HARD WORK. I HAVE A TRUCK LOAD OF PARTS TO COMPLETE THE BUILD. 46 YEARS OF BUILDING TOYS AND I AM GETTING TIRED, AND TO SICK TO DO THIS ANYMORE. Ford Mustang 50th anniversary edition brings in $170k
Tue, 30 Sep 2014Just the other day, we reported on the first Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat selling for a whopping $825,000 at auction. But impressive as that sum was, the Challenger wasn't the only sought-after modern muscle car to cross the Barrett-Jackson auction block in Las Vegas this past weekend. So did this rare Ford Mustang.
The last of 1,964 special-edition 50 Years Limited Edition pony cars sold for a princely $170,000, with proceeds benefiting the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute, a branch of the Henry Ford Health System.
The pony car in question is based on the 2015 Ford Mustang GT and upgrades with a performance package and nearly every option on the book, along with a unique appearance package to set it apart in celebration of the Mustang's 50th anniversary. It's available in two exclusive shades - Wimbledon white or Kona blue - with either a manual or automatic transmission. Only 1,964 highly symbolic examples were to be built, and this was the last of them.
Are you a new Ford Mustang SVO? [w/video]
Fri, 16 May 2014When Ford announced that its 2015 Mustang would arrive with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, three letters came to mind: SVO. While Ford hasn't said a word regarding the rebirth of a Mustang SVO model, this latest set of spy shots shows us something very, very interesting. Allow us to explain.
The Mustang prototype in these photos looks very similar to the GT500 test cars we've spotted before - same bulging hood, aggressive front fascia and air vents aft of the front wheels. What's different, however, is around back. Have a look at the exhaust, and note that instead of the GT500's usual quad pipes, two of the exhaust outlets have been capped off.
Our spies point out that these exhaust outlets could be closed for some sort of emissions testing or another engineering reason, but it's also important to note that the engine and exhaust notes of this car sound completely different from earlier GT500 prototypes. Ford celebrating 80 years of Aussie utes as it prepares to shutter Oz manufacturing
Wed, 26 Feb 2014Ford is ending Australian production after 90 years in 2016, and with it may go perhaps the most iconic vehicles in its auto market - the ute. Car-based pickup trucks like the Ford Ranchero and Chevrolet El Camino were always more of a curiosity than a true market force here, but in Australia, they have long proven hugely popular.
As the legend goes, Ford invented the niche after a farmer's wife had asked Ford Australia's managing director for a more utilitarian car. Her request was simple: "My husband and I can't afford a car and a truck but we need a car to go to church on Sunday and a truck to take the pigs to market on Monday. Can you help?"
Ford's design team came up with a two-passenger, enclosed, steel coupe body with glass windows and a steel-paneled, wooden-frame load area in the rear. The sides of the bed were blended into the body to make it look more unified, and to keep costs down, the front end and interior were based on the Ford Model 40 five-window coupe. Power came from a V8 with shifting chores handled by a three-speed manual. Within a year, the new vehicle was ready, and production began in 1934. Lead designer Lewis Bandt christened it the coupe-utility.
