1934 Ford Pickup rat rod, or traditional hot rod if you prefer. This truck is currently featured in Ol' Skool Rodz magazine #57, on news stands now. It has also been featured in Rebel Rodz magazine. It has been on the road one year and has approximately 1500 miles. It has a "Trucker" theme, with dual roof-mount horns, functional dual exhaust stacks, cab light turn signals, Mack bulldog cowl ornament, and Peterbilt shifter. It drives EXCELLENTLY, very fast and smooth, equally at home on the freeway as around town.

The cab is chopped 4 inches and channeled four inches. The box is shortened 23 inches and narrowed 8 inches. It has a custom-built 2x4 steel frame. Front suspension is a vintage Okie Adams 6-inch dropped I-beam axle, original Model A wishbones, and a new transverse leaf spring on a suicide perch. Rear suspension is a four-link with panhard bar, suspended by coilover shocks. The differential is a freshly rebuilt Ford 8-inch.
Steering is a Ford tractor wheel, through a unique chain drive into a Dodge pickup steering box; it is SMOOTH. Wheels are vintage Cragar SS with bias ply tires front and rear. The engine is a recently rebuilt Chevy 307 with a set of 305 heads for 10:1 compression. Induction is an Edelbrock Street Tunnel Ram with dual Holley 450 carbs. Exhaust is through custom headers with baffles, routed into dual stacks with integral Cherry Bomb mufflers. The transmission is a Borg Warner World Class T-5 five speed manual. Radiator is a new aluminum 3-row. It has a full set of new functional gauges: fuel, volt, tach, speedo, oil pressure, temperature. Gas tank is 15-gallon steel hidden under the box. Headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals all work as they should. The battery is easily accessible through a vintage Craftsman tool box in the bed.

The truck is very reliable and comfortable to drive. It starts instantly, runs super, and never overheats. I drive it every weekend the weather allows. It is not a show queen, although it has won its share of trophies. At only 2100 lbs gross weight, above 3000 rpm this car will make you wet your pants.
It has no side windows, no heater and no seat belts, no radio - no need for amenities; the car IS the entertainment.

Many YouTube videos are available of this truck driving (please note: all these vids feature the truck with tripower; that has since been changed to dual quads):

Ford tumbles to second worst in Consumer Reports reliability survey, list dominated by Japanese [w/video]

Mon, 29 Oct 2012

It's no secret that MyFord Touch has had its share of problems since being introduced, but the most recent reliability survey from Consumer Reports shows just how much this infotainment system has affected Ford. Just two years ago, the automaker was in the top 10 for the institute's reliability rankings, but since then, it has tumbled to the second-lowest rung just above dead-last Jaguar. In addition to MyFord Touch, CR also attributes a handful of new products that have had issues right out of the gate.
Compiled from 1.2 million subscriber surveys, this year's auto reliability survey heavily favors Japanese automakers, with eight of the 10 spots hailing from Japan. Toyota brands grabbed the top three spots (Scion, Toyota and Lexus - in that order) with Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura filling the next four spots. The only non-Asian automaker cracking the top 10 was Audi at number eight.
Audi climbed a total of 18 spots from last year, and Cadillac and GMC round out this year's top gainers breaking into the top 15. Helping Cadillac's upward movement, the CTS Coupe was named the most reliable domestic car. Lincoln, Volvo and Chrysler join Ford on this year's biggest loser list.

PickupTrucks.com's latest test results in a familiar winner [w/video]

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

PickupTrucks.com has gone and thrown the latest batch of half-ton pickups into a cage match to see who would come out on top. The site put the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2013 Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan through a battery of tests. Those included 0-60 miles per hour acceleration, 60-0 mph deceleration, fuel economy, a hill climb, and payload and towing. They even threw the rigs on an autocross course to evaluate overall handling. Each truck was given points based on how it scored in each evaluation.
Who came out on top? Somewhat surprisingly, the 2013 Ford F-150 walked away with the gold, though fewer than 50 points separated first and fourth place. Head over to PickupTrucks.com to read the full evaluation and the final results. You may be shocked to see exactly where some of the segment's newest additions placed. You can also watch a video on the test below.

Would a Mustang-based Lincoln look like this?

Mon, 07 Jan 2013

Designer Josiah LaCalla has taken a stab at what a Ford Mustang-based Lincoln model might look like with the Continental Mark X1 concept. Make no mistake, Ford's luxury arm has made it abundantly clear that it won't be pursuing any new products outside of volume models, which means a flashy halo grand tourer like the one you see here isn't in the cards. LaColla used the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as a basis for his creation, which explains the long nose, but we certainly don't mind the idea of a rear-wheel drive Lincoln with a cabin pushed to the aft.
While we're dreaming, there's certainly nothing stopping us from imagining what's under that lengthy hood. We like the idea of the 5.8-liter supercharged V8 from the Shelby GT500 pushing the Mark X1 down the road, but how about something a little more inventive? Something like a high-revving, buttery V12 with enough torque to push the contraption well past 200 miles per hour. Dream a little dream, people.
