I bought the car from a broker in Eugene, Oregon about five years ago. He said that it had been in the same family since new. It had just come out of restoration, and apparently it was a body off rotissery restoration as the entire body was painted; including the underside. The frame was a clean shiny black. I asked if I might talk with the seller, but the seller wouldn't talk to me, but provided a few polaroid snap shots of the restoration process.
During reassembly they used some of the original trim pieces like the old trim screws, emblems, and even some old polyglass belted tires, and the speedometer wasn't rebuilt. The wiring is new and the radio and clock work, except that I unplugged the clock because it was drawing two amps of electricity and running the battery down overnight.
I drove it home without any problems except that the speedometer decided to go haywire, and the tread on one of the belted tires seperated. After getting home I soon sent the speedometer off for a rebuild, and asked them to set the odometer to 00000.0. It now reads 02351.0. I replaced the all black seat covers with the proper yellow and black ones. I am not very proud of the job I did.
Upon moving to Florida three years ago, the engine started to miss and flat spot. I fiddled with the timing some and replaced the plug wires and spark plugs. The points and condenser were replaced with an electronic gizmo and I grudgingly installed an inline fuel pump so as to fill the float bowl without having to grind the engine to start. I sent the carburetor to Pony Carburetors in Albuqurqe for a professional rebuild. It now idles smoothly, there's no flat spot and it really scoots!
I bought the car for use as a driver and it shows in a few places:
There is a paint chip on or near the left headlight bucket. See photo.
There is a place that has paint damage on the panel below the license plate because I parked it on an incline with a full tank of gas, and some of it got past the gas cap and dripped down. See photo.
The top has small tears on both sides where the folding mechanism pinched them. I understand this is a common problem.
There might be other flaws, but I can't remember them right now.
Wayne Carini of "Chasing Classic Cars" said on a tv show that I saw, that there were only three hundred of the 1955 birds painted Goldenrod Yellow. I respect his opinion.
You are getting a rare and beautiful Goldenrod Yellow baby bird if you win this auction. Good luck!

Ford EcoBoost smashes records at Daytona
Thu, 10 Oct 2013Some mighty machines have lapped the banks of the Daytona International Speedway over the years: thunderous V8-powered stock cars, Le Mans-conquering Group C prototypes, open-wheel Champ Cars, knee-dragging superbikes... heck, the infield lake has even hosted powerboat racing. But this - this is the fastest car ever to lap the legendary raceway.
What you're looking at is the new Daytona Prototype being prepared by Riley Technologies for the new United SportsCar Championship. The car, released just last week, is powered by a new 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 from Ford's EcoBoost family, and just obliterated the top speed at the track with a blistering 222.971 miles per hour through the traps.
That's enough to annihilate the previous record that was set, also under Ford power, by Bill Elliott while placing his Thunderbird on pole for the 1987 Daytona 500 that he would go on to win. His 210.364 mph record had stood for 26 years until now.
Ward's reveals annual 10 Best Engines list for 2013
Thu, 13 Dec 2012Ward's Auto has released its annual 10 Best Engines award winners. The 2013 list covers the full width and breadth of the internal combustion spectrum, from a spate of efficient four-cylinders to the most powerful production V8 on the planet. As always, the entries must be available in a production vehicle in the first quarter of 2013 with an MSRP of less than $55,000. The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 from the Audi S5 held on for the fourth consecutive year, and BMW earned two spots on the list with its turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder and turbo 3.0-liter inline-six.
Ford pulled in two awards for its 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and and the supercharged 5.8-liter V8 from the Shelby GT500. Honda matched BMW and Ford with two wins of its own. Wards awarded the 2.4-liter four-cylinder from the Honda Accord Sport as well as the 3.5-liter V6 from the Honda Accord. Chrysler, General Motors and Subaru each garnered a spot on the list as well for the 3.6-liter V6 in the Ram 1500, the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Cadillac ATS and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder the Subaru BRZ, respectively. 2015 Ford Mustang fuel economy ratings leaked
Thu, 21 Aug 2014Thinking about buying a new Mustang, but want to know what kind of fuel economy it'll get? Well we have our first indication as the pony-car enthusiasts over at Mustang6G.com have gotten a hold of the Monroney window stickers for a few of the new 2015 Mustang models.
Although the V8 model is not among them, we can now see how the EPA has rated those models with a half dozen pistons or less. The Mustang EcoBoost with the turbo four and a manual transmission has been rated at 22 miles per gallon in the city and 31 on the highway. The V6 manual gets 17 city and 28 highway, while the V6 automatic squeezes out a bit more in the city at 19 mpg but carries the same 28 highway rating.
By way of comparison, the latest Chevy Camaro with the V6 and a stick shift gets the same 17/28 EPA rating as a similarly equipped new 'Stang, and the V6 automatic Camaro gets 18/27 (slightly behind the Ford, but if you opt for the Camaro 2LS with its V6, automatic and 2.92 rear axle ratio, you'll be looking at 19 and 30).
