1970 Ford Torino GT Factory 351 Cleveland 4V. 3 speed FMX automatic transmission, 9" 3.00:1 rear. Factory A/C.
The Torino was purchased new by my grandparents in 1970 and has been in the family since new. It starts, runs and drives and is a good restoration project car. I always intended to restore it but never found the time so its time to let it go to someone who can take the time to restore it. The engine and transmission are original and have never been out of the car or had any major work done. The engine does blow some smoke at startup as the valve seals have deteriorated. It still has 165-175 psi compression in every cylinder and is otherwise mechanically fine. The carburetor, air cleaner and distributor have been replaced, but the original factory parts are in the trunk. It currently has a 600cfm Edelbrock performer carburetor and a Mallory electronic distributor. The belt has been removed from the factory A/C because some of the idler pulleys have seized and need to be replaced.  The transmission works perfectly and shifts firmly but it has an external leak somewhere. It recently had the fluid and filter changed and a new pan gasket put on but it still leaks a little even when sitting. I suspect it may be the selector shaft seal or the tail shaft seal. The body and interior are complete with the exception of the missing ashtray in the center console. The exterior paint color is not the original color. It was originally green with a laser stripe, but my Aunt had it painted blue sometime in the late 1970s. The white interior is original and in fair shape. The body is in fair shape considering its age but it needs new rear quarter panels and the passenger side front floor pan is rusted. There are some other rust issues noted in the pictures and quite a few little parking lot dents. It currently has the original 4 wheel manual drum brakes. I have complete V8 Granada spindles from the junkyard to convert it to front disc brakes but I never had the time to put them on. All of the V8 Granada brake parts are included in the trunk with the car and can been seen in the pictures.

Ford gives police chiefs tech to surveil officers in their own cars

Tue, 28 Oct 2014

Police officers certainly have a difficult job in keeping the streets safe, but as public employees in positions of authority, there is still a very real need for oversight. To that end, Ford is partnering with a tech company to offer a new system called Ford Telematics for Law Enforcement on its line of Police Interceptor patrol vehicles that could make cops safer, while giving cities a better idea of what its officers are doing.
The system streams live data about cruisers back to the home base to people like the police chief or shift supervisor. That info includes expected things like speed, location and cornering acceleration, but it gets incredibly granular as well, with records of things like if emergency lights are on, or even if an officer is wearing a seatbelt.
Ford Telematics for Law Enforcement "ought to protect officers as much as it protects the public," said Ford spokesperson Chris Terry to Autoblog. Constantly monitoring patrol cars offers cities a lot of advantages, too. First, it reduces potential liability because a department can prove where each vehicle is at all times. Also, officers know they are being watched and may potentially drive more safely.

2015 Ford Mustang leaked in Autoweek

Tue, 03 Dec 2013

We would have to imagine that Ford knew it couldn't keep its 2015 Mustang under wraps for too long, and with only days to go before the pony car's official unveiling, the dam seems to be cracking. SVTPerformance.com member Screamin 40th just posted some images taken of the sixth-gen Mustang prominently featured in and on the cover of the December 9 issue of Autoweek magazine.
These images show that recent renderings we saw weren't too far off. The face is just like what we saw in spy shots a few months back, but the rear of the car features some of its more striking cues. Starting with the pronounced haunches and hidden B-pillars, the rear view of the new Mustang might be its best with the ridged, three-bar taillights, a rear diffuser and the lack of a faux gas cap, which allows the galloping pony to be an even more prominent element against the black trim.
The images also reveal a small portion of the updated interior carrying over retro themes like the deep-dish steering wheel and dual-gauge instrument cluster, but it also adds some modern tech with a big infotainment displays and a clean center stack layout. No official word on powertrain or other specs, but while we can't make out most of the magazine's text, our eyes did catch mentions of an independent rear suspension and a 200-pound weight reduction.

Ford, Samsung shack up to bring regen braking to non-hybrid models [w/video]

Mon, 09 Jun 2014

Ford must be desperate to get itself ready for the beach this summer because it is really trying to get into shape. Shortly after unveiling the Lightweight Concept that cut the weight of a Fusion down to that of a Fiesta, it's now the rest of the line's turn for improvement. The company is wrapping up a 10-year research project aimed at developing next-gen automotive batteries to improve efficiency.
Ford claims that 70 percent of its lineup will have stop/start tech by 2017. The key to this massive proliferation is its new dual-battery system that combines a lithium-ion battery with a lead-acid one and regenerative braking. The setup works by harvesting braking energy and converting it to electricity. When the vehicle stops, the engine shuts off, but the Li-ion battery has enough juice to keep the accessories running. The engine starts up again as drivers take their foot off the brake. The layout would mean less wasted gas while idling. It's already available on Ford hybrids and is somewhat similar to the i-Eloop capacitor-based system from Mazda.
The bigger challenge is tuning the regenerative braking right. While hybrid drivers may be a little more adventurous, when it comes to getting a hang of regen braking, conventional buyers might not be so open-minded. The systems have a tendency to be a little grabby at first and then taper off at very low speeds. Ford needs to make sure it's just right to avoid turning off buyers.
