For auction is a 1979 GMC K25 Royal Sierra 3/4 ton4x4 Pickup Truck. This is a very rare truck due to the Royal Sierra trim package. It is similar to the Chevy Bonanza package. The truck has a 350 motor. It runs well. I don't know the actual miles on the truck or whether the engine is original. I assume it is a newer engine. I have put over $3,000 into it since purchased. I am selling it as I don't have room for any more trucks at my house. I am now focusing on my 1982 Chevy Crew Cab 4x4. Anyhow, the truck has a 3" body lift. This is one of the few negatives. It would look nicer with a new suspension lift. This is left over from the previous owner and I haven't changed it over. The paint job is within the last two years. It is of fair quality. There is very little rust on the truck. I have included two pictures showing the only rust that I can find on the truck. One spot is in the drivers side of the cab and should probably be cut out. The other spot is behind the seat in the cab and is surface rust. Recent work includes: - Wiring gone through and fixed - New ceramic headers put on - Flowmaster exhaust added (quite loud) - New alternator - New battery - New brake pads, rotors, etc. Brakes work great now. Negatives include: - Very minor rust as pictured - Body lift - Tires have little tread left - Salvage title. The truck was probably in an accident at one point and was fixed up. - VIN number indicates that truck was not originally a 4x4. It has been converted into a nice 4x4. This is a nice, solid, clean truck. It will need very little work to getting it looking very nice. It runs well and is reliable. It is a very rare trim package. You will very rarely ever see another Royal Sierra anywhere. Sold as is / where is. I will help with any shipping arrangements made. Reserve is pretty low and not close to what I have invested. However, I prefer to put more money into my crew cab project. Please feel free to message with any questions.

GM also sheds parts from its pickups to boost payload ratings

Thu, 31 Jul 2014

The row between Ford and Ram over who boasts the best-in-class tow rating for heavy duty pickups has revealed a number of things. Chief among them is a report that Ford removes items like the spare tire, jack, radio and center console from its vehicles in a bid to lower its base curb weight and therefore keep the truck's gross vehicle weight rating down.
For those that need a refresher, GVWR is the vehicle's curb weight plus its maximum payload. A lower GVWR allows Ford to station its F-450 among the so-called Class III pickups, despite the fact that internally, it has the makings of a more brutish Class IV truck.
Ford explains away these deletions, saying a customer could order their vehicle in such a manner. It has also come to light that Ford is not the only automaker to engage in such practices.

2014 GMC Sierra Regular Cab revealed

Thu, 16 May 2013

Despite initially launching in just the Crew Cab configuration, the lineup of 2014 GMC Sierra and 2014 Chevrolet Silverado trucks will eventually grow to include three cab sizes and three bed lengths. Oddly enough, our first look at the Regular Cab bodystyle has arrived in a General Motors press release discussing the aerodynamics of the new truck, with an image showing a Sierra Regular Cab testing in the wind tunnel. GMC's website says that Regular Cab and Double Cab models will be available by summer.
While it really didn't take too much imagination to figure out what the two-door version would look like, this Regular Cab Z71 looks pretty sharp with its standard-length (6.5-feet) bed - a longer bed will also be offered. In regards to the aero tuning of the 2014 Sierra, these images show just how far GM has gone in maximizing the truck's fuel efficiency and reducing its noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels. Interestingly, the press release shows visual evidence that keeping the tailgate up is best for aero - there's always been some Mythbusters-level contention about such things -but GM also says that adding tonneau covers (preferably soft) and running boards can also help improve the overall aerodynamics. Scroll down for all of this aero info in the official press release.

GM confirms 2015 Silverado, Sierra to get 8-speed automatic

Fri, 18 Jul 2014

When viewed alongside the next Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500, there is one thing that seems to be missing from the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Where the F-150 will rely on turbocharging and aluminum architecture and the Ram sports an eight-speed automatic and an air suspension, the General Motors twins lack a big, calling-card feature. They're very good, very refined trucks, but one could argue that they're not terribly innovative.
And while it might not be as flashy a feature as air suspension or a lightweight skin, the Silverado and Sierra will get their own eight-speed automatic for 2015, a transmission that will be paired with the company's Ecotec3 6.2-liter V8. The new cogswapper will also find its way into the GMC Yukon Denali, but for now, there's no indication why the Cadillac Escalade, Suburban, Tahoe and standard Yukon are being left out.
According to GM, the new gearbox is about the same size and weight as the current Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed. By the time the new powertrain combination enters production late this year, the EPA will almost certainly have gotten around to certifying the vehicles' fuel efficiency. Until then, feel free to speculate. The current Silverado with the 6.2 and six-speed auto returns 14 miles per gallon in the city and 20 on the highway. How much do you think the eight-speed will improve those figures? Scroll down for the official press blast from General Motors, and then head into Comments.
