1980 Jeep Cj 7 Laredo - Nearly All Original on 2040-cars

Year:1980 Mileage:63000
Location:

Austin, Texas, United States

Austin, Texas, United States

***To all following this listing, a watcher pointed out that I had mistakingly listed this Jeep as a 1981 in the description. It's a 1980. My apologies for the oversight.***

1980 Jeep CJ-7 Laredo, clean Texas title, black on black with original hard top and hard doors (doors have original Laredo interior panels). I'm the 3rd owner of this Jeep, all ownership has been in Texas. I have two CJ’s that are nearly identical and have to get rid of one, we are in need of a larger vehicle and the garage space. This is the nicer of the 2 Jeeps by far, but I owned the other one first and it has some sentimental value to me. This would be a great Jeep for someone wanting to do a restoration, it's very solid, or an even better one for someone wanting to lift it and add larger tires.

The Jeep is almost all original; the only thing that has been changed is the engine and wheels/tires. Previous owner took out the original 304 V8 and had an AMC 360 V8 professionally installed with an Edelbrock performance carb and intake. This is a very common swap in this era of Jeep as the 80's Grand Wagoneers came with the 360 and it's almost a direct swap. The Jeep has a tremendous amount of power, would handle larger tires very well.

The transmission is an automatic. It shifts very well, smooth through all gears and into/out of reverse.

The transfer case works perfectly, will run in 4-H or 4-L without any grinding, whining, clicking, etc.

Interior is all original. Driver’s side seat is a little torn on lower, upper is in great shape. Both passenger and rear seats are in great shape. Coming apart slightly at the seams but could easily be repaired. Has a CD player and (2) marine grade speakers in the rear.

Wheels are gloss black steel 15x8, tires are 31x10.50 Kumho street tires that are almost brand new. My other Jeep has (5) 235x75x15 BFG All Terrains that are almost new, for an extra $500 I'll swap the tires before selling it.

There is almost no rust on this Jeep with the exception of (2) small places. Drivers floorboard has a small spot that my body shop said could be repaired for $100. Rear quarter panel has a small spot as well, almost the same size. None of the usual problem areas have any issues (ie body mounts, rear floor pans behind front seats, rear wheel wells, etc.). As you can see in the photos, the Jeep is very clean and would make a great rig as it sits.

The odometer on this Jeep shows 62,XXX miles. There is not a digit to the left of the 6, but the previous owner was adamant that the mileage shown was exact. Anyone who knows Jeeps like I do probably isn't concerned about mileage anyway, just about anything on this Jeep could be repaired/replaced for $500 or less. Engine has approximately 25k miles on it after the rebuild.

Bottom line, this Jeep is great and will make someone a very nice rig. Could be used as a weekend vehicle or a daily driver. My Jeep mechanic told me I should list it at $12k, I'm just not that attached to it and I want someone to get a nice Jeep at a good price. I've had it parked near my house for the few weeks and have had a significant amount of phone calls, I'm just not willing to give it away. Willing to take any photos necessary, just send me an email request and include the areas you would like to see. This is obviously an as-is sale and there is no warranty available. Thanks for bidding.

Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver is a more rugged Trailhawk

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

We briefly mentioned the Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver that was heading to SEMA last week when discussing the Mopar lineup set to be shown in Las Vegas. At the time, though, we weren't able to dive too deeply into details. But with SEMA in full swing, we were able to sneak over and grab some snaps of one of the first modified Cherokees we've seen. The Cherokee is, after all, kind of an unknown quantity in the modification department, being so new and featuring such a polarizing design. We were quite interested to see what Mopar could come up with.
Starting with the Trailhawk 4x4 and its 3.2-liter V6, the engine is fitted with a Mopar cold-air intake and a new exhaust, although it's not clear what sort of power boost has resulted. We'll admit, we were hoping Jeep and Mopar would get a bit more aggressive with the Cherokee's suspension (has anyone thrown a few-inch lift on the new Jeep yet?), but there's no mention of upgrades beyond the knobby, off-road tires. Those should do some good when the going gets rough, while rock rails are there to protect the Auburn Pearl paint on the body.
Speaking of that paint, it's complemented by an interesting graphics package in contrasting black and Crush Orange. The cabin sports Katzkin Amaretto leather seats, along with tech-friendly items like a wireless charging system for cellphones and wireless internet.

2016 Jeep Wrangler to ditch solid axles to save weight?

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

Hey, Jeep fans. If you think the idea of a funky-looking, car-based Cherokee revival is offensive, have a listen to what might be in store for the next-gen Jeep Wrangler. Automotive News is reporting that as Jeep develops the 2016 Wrangler, weight reduction is a crucial target, and the Wrangler's rugged solid axles could be sacrificed in the name of better fuel economy.
We've already heard the next Wrangler will go on a serious diet using aluminum body panels and an air suspension system, so the idea of a four-wheel independent suspension setup for this OG SUV isn't all that surprising. Besides, it's not like an independent suspension would limit the Wrangler's off-road abilities - just check out the Hummer H1. In fact, it might be the aftermarket parts companies - not Wrangler enthusiasts - who would be most disappointed by such a drastic suspension change, as the article states that the Wrangler's solid axles and coil-link suspension make it the most popular SUV for customization.
There are probably still a couple years before we'll start hearing any concrete details about the 2016 Wrangler, at which time it will be interesting to see how stricter fuel economy and crash safety regulations have been balanced with traditional Wrangler cues like its removable doors and roof and folding windshield. Let us know in the comments below if a Wrangler sans solid axles is any less of a Wrangler.

Jeep Renegade pricing to start at $18,595?

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

While there's no shortage of excitement surrounding the new Jeep Renegade, one of the limiting factors to the little trucklet will be its price. With the Kia Soul starting at $14,900 and the Nissan Juke kicking off at $18,990, the Renegade can't afford to stray away from that price bracket.
And judging by some potentially leaked pricing info, it won't. A quick Google search of "Jeep Renegade Price" reveals (at least for now) that the Italian-built Jeep will start at $18,595. The "as shown" price of $25,895 seems to indicate the Trailhawk model shown on Jeep's consumer page.
If the $18,595 figure is correct, it's likely for the base, two-wheel-drive Sport model, with the Latitude and Limited trims falling somewhere between there and the $25,895 as-equipped price of the Trailhawk.
