This is a rare 1979 Jeep Cherokee. It has an AMC 360 V8 motor. It is full time four wheel drive with an automatic transmission. The odometer reads 60449 but I'm sure that it has turned over and is 160449, though I do not know that for sure, neither did the previous owner. The title states that the odometer has exceeded mechanical limits. It has a 3" body lift with 33" tires on 15" rims. I have installed new brake calipers on all 4 wheels with new pads as well. There is very little rust on the body but the floor boards had quite a bit of rust damage and the previous owner patched the damage with metal. The previous owner decided to remove the big stock mirrors and installed small mirrors, so there are screw heads where the old mirrors mounted. There is one small rust hole in the hood and a little surface rust near the wheel wells, but other than that the body is rust free. There are some small dings and dents in the body as shown in the pictures. The windshield has a crack in the driver side. The previous owner installed a custom front bumper with a grill guard. The previous owner also installed new black carpet and seat upholstery. I have let the Jeep sit long enough that mice have damaged a little bit of the carpet as shown in the picture. The dash needs some work as it is cracked and the gauges have shifted out of place. The fuel gauge does not work. I'm not sure if its the sending unit or the actual gauge. There is no headliner. I have the passenger door trim, it is just not installed. The rear gate has an electric window that works and the gate folds down. The engine has new Edelbrock intake and carburetor, new battery, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new starter, new master cylinder, and new starter solenoid. It does have some blow by so the engine smokes a little at idle and the valve cover gaskets leak a little causing smoke in the engine compartment. The engine starts and runs good, unless it has sat a while. If it has sat for a couple days, it takes some time to start it. I haven't had the carburetor tuned since I installed the new carb, so a tune up may help. The transmission shifts smooth and seems solid. The Jeep drives good on the road. Its a fun vehicle to own and drive, I just don't have the time to give it the TLC it deserves.

Jeep Wrangler Polar Edition coming to America
Wed, 23 Oct 2013Jeep originally took the wraps off its Polar Edition Wrangler at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and at the time, we figured this would be a Europe-only affair. (Perfectly fine, since we US customers haven't exactly been lacking special edition Wrangler models over the years.) But now, and as Jeep says, just in time for winter, the automaker has announced that the ice cold Wrangler will be hitting North American showrooms in November.
Based on the Wrangler Sahara model, the Polar Edition can be had in either two- or four-door body styles, with a unique Hydro Blue paint job as the featured color. (Buyers can also opt for less-special Billet Silver and Bright White hues.) Other exterior enhancements include a body-colored hardtop, 18-inch gloss black wheels, the Powerdome (power bulge) hood, and unique decals all around the body.
But the Polar Edition isn't just about some paint and stickers. Jeep has fitted this Wrangler with a Dana 30 front axle and Dan 44 rear axle, as well as the Trac-Lok anti-spin electronic rear differential. Like all US-spec Wranglers, the Polar Edition uses Jeep's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, producing 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Both a six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmission are available.
Consumer Reports digs Mazda3, disses Jeep Cherokee
Tue, 11 Feb 2014Consumer Reports has just rendered its verdict on two of the more important cars to launch this year - the Mazda3 and the Jeep Cherokee. Considering the value a "Recommended" rating carries with the public and the viciously competitive markets these two cars compete in, Consumer Reports' view could have some impact on their initial success.
For Mazda, that's a good thing. CR spoke quite highly of the Zoom-Zoom brand's compact sedan and hatch, testing both models, and citing the excellent fuel economy and snickety-snack manual shifter as high points. Downsides to the 3 included a ride that is agile but "nervous," a bit too much noise and a cramped back seat. Still, the 3 was good enough to earn its place in the ranks of the "Recommended."
The Jeep didn't fare quite so well, with CR calling the polarizing CUV "half-baked." Although both engines were tested, the magazine called the 2.4-liter four-pot underpowered and its nine-speed automatic unrefined and unresponsive. That's particularly damning, considering the 9AT's role in future Chrysler products, including the extremely important 200. Overall, the Cherokee missed out on the coveted "Recommended" rating.
Chrysler axes old V6s, goes all-Pentastar
Tue, 03 Sep 2013Old technology has a way of lingering on, particularly at Chrysler headquarters in Auburn Hills. So while the Pentastar V6 has replaced the older engine architecture in just about every application, it still soldiered on in some export markets. But the introduction of a new 3.0-liter Pentastar V6, produced in Michigan and meant only for the Chinese market, has put the final nail in the old engine's coffin.
Fitted into the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler just introduced to China at the Chengdu Motor Show, the downsized six uses the same architecture as the larger 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. But because of its 2,997cc capacity, it can be exported to China without the increased duty the 3.6-liter or even 3.2-liter Pentastar engines would incur. The 3.0-liter V6 develops 230 horsepower at 6,350 rpm and 210 pound-feet at 4,400 rpm.
Admittedly, it's unlikely, but even though the engine was said to be created solely to undercut tax thresholds in China and Europe, the 3.0-liter Pentastar has recently surfaced in rumors of an application here: as the boosted heart of a potential Cherokee SRT with anywhere from 375 to 410 hp.
