1966 Jeep Jeepster Commando 3.7l on 2040-cars
Fairhope, Alabama, United States
This a rare
American Classic which I am offering for sale. I bought the vehicle 6 years ago
and have used it moseying around the small town I live in on weekends. Here’s
what I know: I bought it from a guy who had it 5 years and kept it out of the
weather. Since I bought it I have replaced the clutch and some hoses—also kept
it under cover of a carport with a vehicle cover. The jeep fires up every time
and is very reliable in that regard—I only drive it around town—have never
ventured more than 15 miles from my home so I won’t vouch for any extended
distance driving. This Jeep is an amazing people magnet--a complete head turner
anywhere I drive. I’ve had it parked next to a gleaming red Ferrari and
nobody’s looking at the Italian job. Reason for selling---I had 5-6 years of
fun and now it’s someone else’s turn to enjoy. I am replacing this with a MUCH
MORE EXPENSIVE 1976 Toyota Landcruiser FJ 40---just another toy to drive around
town on weekends for a few years and then it’ll be on the block. I have never taken vehicle offroad and not sure 4WD even works. ONE MORE
THING—I have only bought one vehicle from afar—a Landcruiser shipped from
Connecticut to Alabama—I was referred to a guy that has phenomenal ratings and
he did everything I asked perfectly—if you need a shipper. |

This American Life spends a week selling Jeeps in Long Island
Thu, 19 Dec 2013So you think you know car dealers? Well, maybe you do, but This American Life spent a month at Town and Country Jeep Chrysler Doge Ram in Long Island to give us a behind-the-scenes look (or listen, since it's a radio program) at what it's like to be a car dealer.
Yes, there's a lot of swearing in thick New York accents, frustration, confusion, and generally it's a madhouse at the dealership. But that's understandable when the sales staff has to sell 129 vehicles in October in order to get an $85,000 manufacturer bonus - with several other Jeep dealerships within a 10-mile radius.
The episode, 129 Cars, is worth a listen, but make sure you have 71 minutes to spare if you want to get through it in one sitting. Head here for the unedited version or here for the bleeped version (which is 58 minutes long).
Chrysler recalling 644k more Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs over brakes
Wed, 02 Apr 2014Early last month, we reported on Chrysler issuing a preemptive, proactive recall for about 25,000 units of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. The issue revolved around a brake system that wasn't causing any actual problems, but delivered an unsatisfactory brake feel, so Auburn Hills called in a good 25,000 of SUVs around the world, including 18,700 in the United States.
Now Chrysler, having apparently determined that the brake problem on its sport utes is actually much bigger than it initially realized, has drastically broadened the scope of the recall. As a result, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for precisely 655,354 examples of the Grand Cherokee and Durango, covering the 2011 through 2014 model years. In addition, Chrysler is recalling 42,380 units in Canada, 21,376 in Mexico and 159,685 overseas.
The problem which Chrysler found revolves around the brake booster, whose center shell has been found to be subject to corrosion, allowing water to get into the brake system. That water in turn could freeze, preventing the brakes from working as well as expected.
2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Wed, 23 Oct 2013Jeep appears to have nailed it this time. After two decades of assembling its Grand Cherokee sport utility vehicle, the American automaker has finally delivered a world-class off-roader capable of taking on everything in its segment - and more - with a high likelihood of coming out on top.
And if you drove last year's model, it's time to climb behind the wheel again as Jeep has significantly updated the SUV for 2014 with a bold new exterior appearance, an upgraded interior with enhanced electronics and a new transmission that completely transforms the way it drives.
We recently spent a full week with a dark blue 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4, a well-optioned model fitted with the standard gasoline-fed V6. While it didn't have the punch of the range-topping V8-powered SRT8, or the fuel-sipping economy of its new EcoDiesel sibling, the high-volume variant left us quite impressed.
