1989 Jeep grand Wagoneer. This Jeep is on the road. It runs and drives. The body needs a new passenger side outer rocker panel and 2 lower rear quarter panels behind the rear wheels. Ther is some of the usual rust in spots on the drivers door and a couple of spots on the front feners. The rest is good and you could get by with just painting below the wood panels.

It was not driven last season, as the water pump was leaking. I just had a new water pump and a tail pipe added. It is running rough right now. I think it needs new plugs but have not looked into it, until the weather stasrts warming up a bit. The Jeep is fun to drive. I took it for a run. It runs better as it warms up.  We mostly use it around town here in our oceanside town in New Jersey. Anyone who wants to spend a few dollars and some time on the lower body will have a great vehicle. The seats are good. I have not cleaned the inside yet. It could use a couple of hours of interior cleaning and detailng. The headliner is excellent. All the power windows works, along with the rear window by the dash switch. All switches work. Newer radio/cd palyer. Sound great. Tires are good. Chrome is good. The skid plate underneath will need to be changed out soon. They always go on Grand Wagoneers eventually and this one will be in need soon. The headlights, turn and brake lights all work. It has air conditioning.  The brakes work perfectly and the automatic transmission shifts very smoothly. This Jeep is a fun summer vehicle!

I am going to run a 'no reserve' auction, so it will go to the highest bidder.

Marchionne uses racial epithet to describe what must power future Alfa Romeo models

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Sergio Marchionne and his Fiat empire have a lot riding on the US return of the Alfa Romeo brand. The endeavor has been in progress for what feels like a lifetime - certainly for as long as Fiat has had the Chrysler brand under its Italian wing.
It's not surprising that Fiat CEO Marchionne needs a perfect first Alfa to mark a return to America. And here's where things get dicey. Nobody would argue with Marchionne's insistence that Alfa Romeo's be powered by Italian engines - as Marchionne himself is quoted to have said at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, "There are some things that are well done in Italy."
If not what he said, then, it's how he said it that has eyebrows raised. "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it needs to be a wop engine." Wait, what's that?

Toyota, Lexus dominate KBB's Best Resale Value Awards

Tue, 19 Nov 2013

Toyota and Lexus stormed the 2014 Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards, winning a combined 18 categories including best brand and best luxury brand. This marks the third year in a row that both automakers have won the Brand and Luxury Brand resale value awards. In all, Toyota won 11 categories and Lexus won seven.
Honda made a good showing, as well, winning two segments (Accord Plug-In Hybrid and Civic Si) and putting one car on the top-10 Best Resale Value list (CR-V). Chevrolet did even better, winning two segments (with the V6 Camaro and the Corvette) and placing three cars on the top-10-overall list (again, the Camaro and Corvette, plus the Silverado 1500).
The other winners came from Jeep, Dodge, Infiniti, Subaru and Audi. To give you a clearer picture of the Toyota and Lexus domination, their 18 mentions represents more than half of the 34 awards (including the top-10-overall list).

What's really going on with the 2014 Jeep Cherokee's transmission issues?

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

On September 23, Automotive News reported that Chrysler had idled the second shift workers it hired just five weeks prior at its Toledo Assembly Complex to build the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. At the time, Chrysler said it had "built the critical number of vehicles we need to stock dealerships once containment is released" and did not want "to put additional strain on our logistics partners ... upon release." That reasoning was not only unusual, it didn't seem to make sense.
It appears the center of the nine-speed issue is software, not hardware.
That same day, the Detroit News ran a piece claiming workers at the Toledo factory said the halt was due to issues with the Cherokee's transmission. It put the number of already-built Cherokees needing fixes at 1,000 and said that some of the workers not laid off had been instructed "to take the Jeep on long test-drives." That made more sense. Three days later, on September 26, Automotive News reported that the 500 workers laid off had been reinstated, with engineers "speeding repairs on the SUV's powertrain software." The AN piece didn't put a number on how many units are being fixed, but it did say that 12,000 have been built and are awaiting delivery to dealers. The best it could say about when dealers will get them, however, is that "progress on a fix is being made. It's unclear when shipments to dealers will start."
