2000 Kia Sportage 4x4 Sport Utility Vehicle Suv 4 Door W/ Extra's on 2040-cars
Norway, Maine, United States
2000 Kia Sportage 4X4. I am the original owner of this vehicle. It has been regularly serviced and was just inspected and stickered for safe operation April 29th, 2014. Manual transmission (stick shift) 145711 miles Manual locking hubs for 4WD Trailer Hitch 1/2 ton towing capacity 3500 lb winch (trailer hitch adapter) full size spare 4 cylinder GREAT GAS MILEAGE (about 20mpg city) Roof rack I even have some extra parts for it... mirrors etc. Over all this has been a fantastic mini SUV for me. I have gone places with it that larger 4x4's can't fit but still have gone all the places the larger 4wd's can go. The 4wd is fantastic in the winter and on muddy woodsy logging roads. It was just inspected and given a sticker just a few days ago. The engine and transmission both run strong. Body has a few dings in it but nothing major. Interior is decent but could use new seat covers and a general cleaning. Will consider trades - looking for motor boat, atv's (preferably a side x side), high end guitars or other instruments, or something else that is cool of equal value. Will take cash and trade also! Hyundai, Kia and U of M studying 'highway hypnosis'
Wed, 28 Aug 2013Next up on the hot-button list of things that can kill you behind the wheel: "highway hypnosis." That's the zombie-like, autopilot phase you get into on a long highway drive when there isn't much to distract you, like curves or traffic. Digging further into what it is and how to combat it, Hyundai-Kia engineers and the University of Michigan are commencing a study that will measure brainwave activity in order to track the body's slide into highway hypnosis.
We're not sure how much overlap this has with Mercedes-Benz's Attention Assist, which tracks more than 70 in-car parameters to determine when you're not focused on the road anymore. That system is billed as an alarm against fatigue, in our experience it does more than that - if you use your phone while driving, for instance, it will chirp.
They don't know what form a warning system will take yet, but Hyundai-Kia plans to develop a method for warning drivers when they being to zone out. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were more than three thousand deaths and nearly 400,000 injuries due to distracted driving in 2011.
2015 Kia Soul EV
Thu, 16 Oct 2014You'd be forgiven if you weren't fully aware of this vehicle's existence. While the Soul EV is a big deal for Kia, as it marks the Korean brand's first foray into the world of pure electric vehicles here in the US, it simply has not a been able to garner much regard from the average car fan or, really, the automotive press.
As a green car, it has to be tough to compete with Elon Musk's remarkable ability to consistently hold our attention with nearly everything he touches at Tesla. Add that to the fact that the Soul EV doesn't offer a ton in the way of aesthetics to differentiate itself from its gasoline-powered sibling - save a few tweaks here and there - and its limited initial availability (CA only for now), and you end up with a vehicle that just isn't on a lot of people's radar. And that's too bad.
You see, none of the above is meant to imply that this is a bad car. In fact, as you read through our driving notes, you'll see that the reality is actually the opposite: Kia has a genuinely solid product on its hands.
2014 Kia Cee'd GT
Thu, 18 Sep 2014Kia may be an automaker with a lot going for it these days, but it's not yet one that takes pains to appeal to performance enthusiasts. Aside from its Pirelli World Challenge team, it doesn't support any major racing programs to speak of. And despite having showcased such concepts as the GT4 Stinger and the Provo, it doesn't really offer much in the way of performance models.
That is, at least not in North America. But at the Geneva Motor Show last year, Kia got itself into the Euro hot hatch game with the launch of the Cee'd GT (and its three-door compatriot, the Pro_Cee'd GT). It's based on the Korean automaker's European-market Volkswagen Golf rival that's now in its second generation and which, in its previous base iteration, served as the Reasonably Priced Car that celebrity guests drove on Top Gear before it was replaced by a Vauxhall Astra. Now with a GT moniker attached, the Cee'd has warmed up to the point that it'd potentially be better suited towards a proper romp down twisting B-roads than serving as a celebrity punching bag.
Since Kia's first genuine performance model (like the model upon which it's based) isn't offered Stateside, we jumped at the opportunity to drive it while on a recent trip to the UK. Read on to see what we found.
