Land Rover Defender 110 1983 - California Titled with current registration
A little bit about the truck. I bought it roughly 5 or 6 years ago from a guy who did a ground up restoration to
make it long lasting and much more drive-able. This included:
Rebuilding it on a galvanized frame.
All new 2.4 drive-train, axles, etc, from a donor land rover
New body panel, doors, roof
Full new interior.
Work at ECR included:
Installation of a Safety Devices NAS 110 Cage with all galvanized underpinnings (cage feet)
Custom flat floor built into the cage so that you can walk on the roof and tie things down for travel
Safety Devices Rear Ladder - NAS 110 style that ties to cage and rear bumper
NAS 110 rear bumper - includes American style hitch receiver
Before the cage was added, ECR pulled the roof and resealed it so down the road there would be no leaks. With
that they dynamatted it to cut down on noise.
Truck cappings removed and galvanized. Theme here is longevity.
ECR/SG bumper/skid plate with three hellas - factory switches wired so you can turn them on anytime.
Rear work lamp wired to a factory switch in the dash.
Heavy duty drag link
Heavy Duty Sliders - ECR design tied to the frame
Body Color rear speaker pods that have accessory outlets.
Rearview camera wired to the rearview mirror

Jaguar SUV mule doing Ring testing in Evoque clothes
Mon, 28 Apr 2014Jaguar has moved its Range Rover Evoque-bodied tests of the production C-X17 Concept from icy streets to the legendary Nürburgring, as work continues on the brand's first SUV.
Really, there's not a great deal of new stuff here. Based on the number plates, this is a different vehicle from the one we saw back in March, which we originally identified as the upcoming replacement for the Land Rover Freelander/LR2. The details, though, appear largely the same. The biggest distinction we can see between the March tests and this are the US-spec headlights, which add amber reflectors at their sides. Based on these shots, it does seem as if the C-X17 should be a fairly poised road vehicle, as the engineers hustle it around the 'Ring.
Of course, as soon our spies can capture images of a production-bodied C-X17, we'll be sure to pass those on to you. Until then, take a look up top for images of the Range Rover-bodied Jaguar as it tests at Germany's Nürburgring. You can also scroll down for our March images for the C-X17 mules testing on public roads.
Going high-tech, the 4x4 way
Tue, 26 Feb 2013Is It An Off-Road Adventure Or Just A Walk In The Park?
I remember having to get out and lock hubs and shift into neutral to engage low range.
Coming off press previews of the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover and the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that involved some heavy-duty off-road rock climbing, I'm simply amazed at the capabilities that these vehicles possess. But even more impressive (or troubling depending on your perspective) is the relative ease with which you can operate these vehicles in seemingly impossible terrain.
Jaguar Land Rover building new R&D center for hybrids, EVs, autonomous cars
Wed, 25 Sep 2013The success of Jaguar Land Rover in recent years has largely been down to a resurgent product lineup, but a recent move into the research and development will see the British-based, Indian-owned brands take the fight to its German rivals more aggressively than ever before.
JLR is investing 50 million pounds ($80,345,000, as of this writing) in a joint R&D center in central England. The move will more than triple its staff dedicated to research, from 150 to 500, with Wolfgang Epple, JLR's Director of Research and Technology telling Automotive News Europe, "In order to play among the big animals in automotive and to be anchored in the mind of customers you have to have offered something unique, to be first in market. We want to be one of the key premier automotive manufacturers."
Jaguar Land Rover's 50-million-pound contribution represents more than half of the 94-million-pound tab, on the so-called National Automotive Innovation Campus. Based at Warwick University, Tata's European Technical Center, Warwick Manufacturing Group and the Higher Education Funding Council, an agency of the British government, are all chipping in for the facility.
