Up for sale is my 1995 Rover classic. If you are looking at this you most likely know about rovers and why they are one of the most popular overland vehicles in the world. This one is a true classic with the much desired lt230 hi/low transfer case with center lock, and front and rear lockers. Front being a limited slip and rear a tried and true detroit locker. It has 4:27 gears and even with the over size tires it has the odometer off about 10% in your favor. Milage is most likely under 150K possibly under 140K. It was our daily driver that we also used for weekend camping in the mountains. We never beat this vehicle and it never ever left us stranded. I just put a new rear heavy duty drive shaft in that has the pinion side u-joint and not the rubber coupling and all lubes are synthetic (amsoil)  throught out drive train. Suspension is slightly over stock in height and replaces the factory air suspension that just about every one get rid of due the expense of trying to keep it working. Suspension is the OME which is old man emu and the most deisrable for rovers and land cruisers. Has a couple known issues, rear window regulator is out - $65 fix if you can do it yourself. Get a TC/ABS light dues to the lockers, this is common and most people disable the light if it bothers them. The reason I believe it gets that is becuse the sensor expects to see the outside wheel speed up in a turn and a locker will not allow that if in loose ground. It also has the air light which again is not a problem and common in many, this gets it because there is no air suspension any more there for it really does not has air in the suspension as it is warning you of.  A rover dealer and blank out both of these lights but they will carge for a reprogram- which is why most people just disable the light all together.  I did just put a new upper tail gate (lift gate to us americans) on it along with glass ($800) , it is aluminum unlike the factory steel one, most of the body is aluminum and the steel upper gate is a common problem so I put a new one on. The top rack cost me $600 but got the over size spare out of the back. I jsut put all new hoses on it along with a thermostat. About 5,000 miles ago I did put a fuel pump in the tank and new fuel filter. It probably only needed a filter but I dont like to wait and see, so I did it right and replaced both. As you can see it is not perfect, but it is very nice and a true rover by all repects, you cant buy them like this any more !  Well - you can buy mine.  I am starting the auction terrible low in hope it goe to $8K , but no researve so highest bid gets it.  Buyer is responsible for transport but I will help get it on a trailer and work with a shipper if need be.   Thank you for looking !

Jaguar may join the FWD, small-car parade

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

Was it right for Chevrolet to detune the 1975 Corvette's base engine to 165 horsepower? Was Aston Martin wrong to make the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet? Is BMW crazy to be testing the new 1 Series with three-cylinder engines and front-wheel drive? It seems now, just as in the 1970s and 1980s, that emissions regulations and social considerations are driving some automakers to adopt unbefitting practices to maintain acceptance in the eyes of governments and consumers. Jaguar has jumped on the bandwagon, and is considering development of small, frugal, front-wheel-drive cars to help lower Jaguar Land Rover's average vehicle CO2 levels in light of tightening European emissions regulations, Autocar reports.
By 2020, the European Union expects the model range of every manufacturer to average 95 grams per kilometer, which is a new law passed by the European Parliament in April. Manufacturers who make more than 300,000 vehicles per year must meet these targets, and JLR is expected to be producing up to 700,000 vehicles per year by then. CO2 regulations after 2020 will only get stricter, as EU politicians already are talking about lowering CO2 levels to between 68 g/km and 78 g/km. (To put that in perspective, Autocar posits that driving a fully charged electric vehicle in Europe produces about 75 g/km when factoring in the power-generation infrastructure.)
Jaguar has some choices here, but so far they all have drawbacks. It could develop a new, compact chassis architecture for a line of compact vehicles, but the investment required for such a project could be prohibitively expensive. Jaguar has been looking into using the Land Rover Evoque platform for a small SUV, Autocar reports, but Land Rover brand manager John Edwards raises issue with such a plan, saying it may not be financially feasible.

Jaguar Land Rover opens winter testing facility in Minnesota

Wed, 12 Dec 2012

As it begins the rollout of the all-wheel-drive Jaguar XJ and XF models, Jaguar Land Rover has just announced that it has opened a new facility in northern Minnesota for winter testing. Located in International Falls, MN (on the US and Canadian border), the British automaker says it is one of the coldest locations in the Continental US. Jaguar's new Instinctive All Wheel Drive system was developed primarily to help sell more cars in the northern US, so it only makes sense to open a testing area in the US as well.
With temperatures that can drop to minus 55 degrees Fahrenheit, International Falls was chosen to mimic some of the worst weather a Jaguar or Land Rover will ever see. The grounds house testing chambers, various road surfaces and even a frozen lake. This new facility complements the hot-weather testing grounds in Phoenix, AZ.
The official press release is posted below.

Jaguar Land Rover puts the freeze on wounded soldier-athletes [w/video]

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

For athletes, the cold is often a powerful ally in treating injures, with RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) a popular means of treating muscle pulls, bruising and other common forms of discomfort. Did you know, though, that frosty temps are also popular tools for simply recovering from a rough training session?
Well, we're guessing Jaguar Land Rover knew that, as the British company was kind enough to loan out its climactic testing chamber to Jaco van Gass and Luke Darlington, a pair of veterans wounded in their service to Queen and Country. Van Gass, a former private in the Royal Army, and Darlington, a Royal Marine, are attempting to earn a spot on the British Armed Forces cycling team for the upcoming Invictus Games.
The Games, inspired by the Warrior Games held in the United States, are a sporting competition reserved for injured servicemen and women, either active duty or veterans, and is slated to take place from September 10 to 14 in London's former Olympic venues. Van Gass lost his left arm below the elbow after getting hit by a rocket-propelled grenade (he also suffered from a collapsed lung, punctured internal organs, severe shrapnel and blast wounds, a broken tibia and a fractured knee). Darlington, meanwhile, suffered a traumatic brain injury during action in Afghanistan, and he now suffers from weakness in his right side and cognitive issues.
