This is a Classic Range Rover - a well known 4x4 in the world of off road safari and exploration. Although its a basic model it has all the comforts of a modern truck with leather seats, power windows, power seat adjustment - this is an incredible off road vehicle that will far exceed your expectations. On the highway it drives on cruise control loving a fast pace...I bought this Range Rover a few years ago from the roverclassic.com dealer in Staten Island, NY.  Since, i've made it a more exciting head turner with all terrain 31 inch tires that make it more in porportion to its size along with a 2 inch lift. The original paint has held up beyond expectation - its drives smooth with no hitch and starts and runs great! this engine is really in excellent condition having kept up with major tune ups and minor adjustments. I did a major overhaul to the gaskets and rings.  My mechanics will verify this information upon asking. The milage is low at 124,441 and this range rover still has lots of play for kitting it up with a rack and bars and anything else if you'd like for pressing its limits off road or you leave it as a comfortable everyday drive with the option to go off road at a moments notice. For its age, its in great shape with minor annoyances, such as the sunroof being sealed. Although the mechanics of the sunroof work, i decided to close it up for not being able to get the seal in tight enough to stop leakage during heavy rains. For cosmetic renovation it needs two corner plastic bumper pieces. I couldn't overcome the annoying sensitive sensor system on the oil light and the coolant light on the dash so I just took those sensors out. This truck DOES NOT leak oil not one drop, but will burn a bit more than it used to so i'm finding that I add one quart usually before every 4,000 mile oil change - i'm obsessed to keep it maintain so don't think this is a major fault. See the pictures and ask any questions i'll try to answer. all the best! OH wondering why i'm selling? I"m moving to Africa and there is a law that restricts the amount of time for a left side drive import. I'd rather not hassel with this restriction but rather get there and buy another Land Rover even more equipped for the bush than my classic :). Good luck bidding!

Jaguar Land Rover building new R&D center for hybrids, EVs, autonomous cars

Wed, 25 Sep 2013

The success of Jaguar Land Rover in recent years has largely been down to a resurgent product lineup, but a recent move into the research and development will see the British-based, Indian-owned brands take the fight to its German rivals more aggressively than ever before.
JLR is investing 50 million pounds ($80,345,000, as of this writing) in a joint R&D center in central England. The move will more than triple its staff dedicated to research, from 150 to 500, with Wolfgang Epple, JLR's Director of Research and Technology telling Automotive News Europe, "In order to play among the big animals in automotive and to be anchored in the mind of customers you have to have offered something unique, to be first in market. We want to be one of the key premier automotive manufacturers."
Jaguar Land Rover's 50-million-pound contribution represents more than half of the 94-million-pound tab, on the so-called National Automotive Innovation Campus. Based at Warwick University, Tata's European Technical Center, Warwick Manufacturing Group and the Higher Education Funding Council, an agency of the British government, are all chipping in for the facility.

This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.

Tata to get Jaguar and Land Rover tech, platforms too?

Tue, 22 Jul 2014

Since buying Jaguar Land Rover, Indian automaker Tata has generally left its luxury arm's platforms and technology alone. However, those days might be gone. The two of them are gradually growing closer with coordinated development and rumors of shared platforms. And it looks like all of that work and money is finally going to pay off with an actual vehicle in the near future.
According to Australian website Drive, Tata wants to make its cars more attractive to buyers outside of India, and to do that the company knows it must improve quality. The Indian company is being careful, though, because it doesn't want to dilute the Jaguar or Land Rover brands with cheap models. "You're going to see in the future a lot of sharing of technologies and platforms over time, but you won't see a JLR with a Tata badge on it," said Darren Bowler, managing director of Tata's Australian distributor, to Drive.
According to Bowler, these future vehicles are already on the way. Tata and JLR have a global platform in the works for 2017 that both companies could use for cars or crossovers. He also hinted that Jaguar's new Ingenium engines could be shared among the brands in the future, too.
