If you are looking for an exotic sports car for a less than exotic sports car price tag, this is the one! I bought this car for my husband last October after many years of him dreaming of owning one. We had been looking for several years, and when I ran across this one, it had everything we wanted and I felt it was an even better deal than the 30-35k we were planning on spending previously. This car has been nothing but fun since the day it arrived, but sadly, it sits in the garage 95% of the time. We are a family with 3 young girls, we own 3 other vehicles, and the only time this one sees the light of day is on an occasional Sunday drive. My husband initially wanted a lotus as his daily driver on his 1 hour commute to and from work, but soon realized he would prefer his automatic in rush hour traffic every day. I will say, though, that there is nothing like it on the road! People look at us as if we are driving a spaceship! Everywhere we go, people stop us for pictures, and we often come out of the store to find a crowd around it. It's quite entertaining and fun! We have owned several exotic sports cars, and this one, by far, gets way more attention than anything else we've had.
Basically, what you see is what you get. The car currently has about 58,000 miles, has been garage kept, and is in excellent condition both mechanically and physically. Ohlin adjustable front and back, a $3,500 upgrade, rear diffuser upgraded exhaust, new tires, new clutch, new brake pads, new battery. The car had a full custom paint job right before we purchased it, as well as new LOTUS badges front and back. The car is ready to drive around town or take to the track! Of course, this car was built to race but the AC works wonderfully. Mechanically, there is nothing at all wrong with the car that we are aware of. It has driven like a dream the entire time we have owned it. It's FAST and fun! The exterior has a few (maybe 2-3) very small rock "chips" on the lower side panels below the doors. You honestly wouldn't notice them unless you were inspecting. The cloth top is in good condition and operates as intended with no issues. The interior is in good condition, but does show some minimal wear on the seats. As most people who are familiar with an Elise know, there aren't a lot of bells and whistles on the inside… as it is built as a race car. It does have an upgraded stereo system/CD player. There is a small crack on the dash that has been glued, and isn't very noticeable, but I will include photos so you have an idea. Coca-Cola returning to F1 with Lotus sponsorship [w/videos]
Sat, 24 Nov 2012Even before Red Bull Racing became a record-breaking three-time Constructor's Champion in Formula One, it has dominated conversations both as a team and as an energy drink. After seven years of "Red Bull this" and "Red Bull that," Coca-Cola is reportedly ready to jump into the F1 fray with its Sweden-based energy drink Burn.
Rumors had placed Coca-Cola's entry with McLaren F1, but it's actually Lotus that has secured the deal. We have no idea what the sponsorship will look like, but the website for Burn says that "We [intend] to foster that creativity by incorporating art and music in a way that will break the conventions of traditional F1 sponsorship," Lotus F1 team principal Eric Boullier adding "We are excited to partner with burn to build a new and innovative model for sponsorships that will combine experiences, content creation and social media..."
Since most - including this writer - have no idea what Burn is, we've included a couple of Burn commercial spots to help get us up to speed, which you'll find below. The 2012 season hasn't even ended, and we're already looking forward to 2013...
Lotus responds to rumors of demise, promises 2016 MY Evora
Thu, 25 Sep 2014It's not been a great week for Lotus. Seven days ago, the UK-based automaker laid off a quarter of its workforce, terminating "up to 325 jobs." And then, just a few days ago, it was reported that the company would be ending US sales of its well-received Evora due to the expiration of an airbag exemption. The Evora is the only vehicle Lotus sells in the US, meaning its end effectively removes the brand from the market.
That was apparently a bridge too far, though, as the company has issued defiant statement, claiming it'll be back, in both the US and Canada, for model year 2016, with an air-bag compliant Evora.
"I know that this will be welcome news to our thousands of owners and fans in North America, but the reality is that there was never any intention to leave. The North American market is vitally important for us and we intend to expand our dealer network and grow our sales volumes in the future," Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Group Lotus said in a statement. "I would like to thank our fantastic Lotus following for their support over the years and remind them that we are working on many exciting products for the future. We will continue to explore our core values on how to make a sports car better by making it faster, lighter and maintain the pure driving experience."
Race Recap: For the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix, NASCAR comes to the principality
Tue, 28 May 2013Lots of contact, debris cautions, trips into the wall, full-course yellows and a red flag - these are the kinds of racing terms you unbox when you want to have a conversation about NASCAR... or the Formula One grand prix of Monaco. In this case we're not talking about the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, we're talking about 78 laps in the South of France that even featured a fallen camera cable just like that stock-car race.
This year, Mercedes-AMG Petronas drivers treated their chassis' like busses instead of F1 cars, Romain Grosjean treated his Lotus like a battering ram, Sergio Perez kept sticking his McLaren's nose in places and eventually got it smacked, and maybe the size of the drivers' mirrors should be changed instead of the tires as there were almost as many firsts as there were crashes. Plenty of F1 fans wish Monaco were removed from the calendar, yet even though it doesn't specialize in traditional thrills, that doesn't mean nothing happens during the parade through - and into - the barriers.
