Up for sale is an AMAZING and RARE Solar Yellow 2007 Lotus Exige S with ~22,500 miles.
The car is in great condition and has always been babied. The Solar Yellow is one of the most sought after and rarest colors (along with Krypton Green!) and this baby will not last at this price. The color is essentially the equivalent of Lamborghini's $12,000 triple layer pearl yellow! This car came with the Touring Package (power windows, leather seats, etc.), traction control (crucial!), starshield (aka clearbra-- just as crucial!), and a few other cool bits. The car also has an upgraded exhaust custom made by 2bular, considered the experts in Lotus Exhaust systems. We wanted to make sure the car looked exotic... but also looked OEM. This was the best design. Twin tips coming out over the upgraded 5 element diffuser! This is the euro-style exhaust and turns heads everywhere it goes. It has a great, exotic bark to it when you are driving aggressively (people turn and take pictures!)... but it isn't obnoxious or overly loud. You can easily have a conversation on your cell phone! Check out the pictures and imagine this bad boy in your garage or driving it to grab a bite to eat and having them park it right in front. It's phenomenal! By far, the most reliable and fun exotic out there... Oh, and it's FASTER than most other exotics out there too! 3.8 seconds to 60 is pretty hard to beat! Get the attention you deserve everywhere you go! And don't worry about crazy maintenance costs! NOTE: Had a small crack in the back above the license plate (~1 inch) that was fixed by the #1 lotus body shop in the country! That is the "minor incident" on the carfax... Lotus recalling certain 2011 Evora S models for possible oil leak, fire
Mon, 29 Jul 2013Last year about 80 examples of the 2011 Lotus Evora S were recalled over an issue with the oil feed pipe. The same number of 2011 Evora S', but with different manufacture dates, are back in the recall box again for a very similar issue; this time it's the engine oil cooler hose that could rupture and spray oil either onto the rear wheels or a hot engine part. Neither of those cases is good, and the latter could potentially lead to a fire.
Lotus is working on a solution, so a recall date hasn't been announced. The bulletin below from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has more information.
Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?
Thu, 26 Jul 2012Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.
Jay Leno goes old school with 1966 Lotus Elan 26R
Mon, 31 Mar 2014On the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage the guest's are both from inside the garage: the man they call Professor Jim Hall, Leno's master fabricator, and the 1966 Lotus 26R that he spent 18 months building. The Elan 26R was the racing version of the Elan that Lotus founder Colin Chapman began building after watching privateer teams prep their roadgoing Elans for competition duty all over Europe. Built by the factory from 1964-1966, drivers like Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart won silverware in the roadster called "the giant killer."
Hall, a veteran Lotus wrench, started with the 1966 Elan street car and turned it into a 26R that's arguably better than the factory original. Except for the engine block and head, original 26R body and Elan chassis, just about everything is custom built, highly modified or special order, from the fabricated oil pan, brake lines, safety wiring and oval exhaust tubing to the six-speed sequential transmission.
The episode is an unusually-long 21 minutes because, as an in-house build, Leno can go through the process of putting the whole roadster together. When he takes it for a drive and keeps going on about how it sings, you can hear it, too. It's worth the time to check out Mr. Hall's Opus in the video below.
